  1. False negatives on endoscopy are not uncommon. You child has the genes and more importantly is forming antibodies. He is IMHO celiac. After your other child is done with testing get them both on the diet strictly. Since celiac is genetic make sure both parents are also screened (even if you don't think you have symptoms) and perhaps make the house gluten...
  2. If you are reluctant to have her go through a biopsy then talk to your ped and see if he will give her the 'official' diagnosis she will need for school. With a biopsy confirmed sibling and a positive blood test he might just diagnose.
  3. Yes you have heard correctly. Some doctors are skipping the endo when the blood work is positive. Don't know if they will all ever let it replace the biopsy as that is a real money maker but time will tell.
  4. I used to have more problems before my period. I don't know if that would have changed gluten free since celiac took my period away early. One thought. Are you on the pill? If you are some have the pills with the hormones in them then a week of placebo pills. Maybe your system doesn't like something in the those?
  5. Yes you would still be covered under a 504 in a private school. Talk to your counselor or advisor. Your parents might want to also contact the deans office to see how to get one in place. Meanwhile talk to your Calculus instructor and see if there is someone who might tutor you to help you with stuff you miss.
  6. Areas that itch a great deal may be DH. If you can go to a dermatologist and have them biopsy the skin next to a lesion to check for it. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac.
  7. Yes this forum is a safe place for you to vent. Do feel free to do so. We all have to deal with bullies whether they are in school, church, in the workplace, etc.. It is hard not to let it bother you but try not to dwell on it too much. Spend as little time as you can around those people and when they are not around try not to think about them. Chances...
  8. Can you find a dermatologist who is familiar with DH? The doctor can biopsy intact skin next to the lesions to look for the antibodies. The doctor has to tell the lab he suspects DH as they need to be testing for it to find it. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac and no other testing would be needed. There is a reason it is called dermatitis herpeformis...
  9. First you need to drop the wheatgrass. Neither it nor barley grass is really safe. If that is all you are now eating you are most likely lacking nutrients also. You may want to ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist to help guide you into a more rounded diet.
  10. 3 months was my understanding also. However if you body reacts very badly to the challenge let your doctor know. Some will have you stop the challenge.
  11. Why would sweet potatoes not be an ok carb? They are one of the healthiest things you can eat. Full of vitamins and both soluable and insoluable fiber.
  12. In addition I find it helps to rinse the uncooked rice until the water runs clear before I cook it. I can't stand sticky rice because it reminds me of the tasteless goo they used to serve in the grade school cafeteria.
  13. Welcome to you all. There can be ups and downs and it can be frustrating at times but the folks on this board are here to help you in any way they can. Ask any questions you need to and do feel free to vent if needed. We have members from all over the world so if you live in a country or area where eating gluten free can seem a bit daunting just ask what...
  14. It does sound like you have an issue with gluten. The being woken up at night is one sign it is not IBS because according to my GI that doesn't happen with IBS. If you want to be tested for celiac do get back on gluten for at least 3 months or so and then go in and get the blood work done and an endo if you feel the need for one. However you don't need a...
  15. You may just need a simple x-ray for the jaw problem. It's good your getting into the doctor about it. You may be able to give payments on the testing that needs to be done. Ask at the hospital if that is possible. Glad the B12 is helping but you really need to find out why you can't open your jaw.
  16. While it may not be the case for all my diverticulosis was a direct result of celiac. Before I was diagnosed I had diverticuli throughout my entire large intestine. It was the most extensive case my GI had ever seen. When I had another colonoscopy done 5 years after diagnosis the diverticuli were almost completely resolved. As was mentioned do stay on gluten...
  17. It is best if you can to wait until the glutening symptoms resolve before you add a new food. If you think you had problems with the peppers then drop them for now and wait till you are feeling better before you add them back in. I think a doctor can tell you if you have a candida issue. Some of us get rashes and itchy from gluten so it may be that causing...
  18. It does look like your total IGA is low. That would result in a false negative for the IGA related tests. If you are not going to have a biopsy then go ahead and give the diet a strict try.
  19. Glad you are starting to feel better. My old gastro was clueless and misdiagnosed me and wanted me on even more meds than I was already on. My new gastro when going through my records stated he always tells folks that appear to have celiac related problems to try the diet strictly no matter what the test results because he is aware that false negatives on...
  20. What are you usually eating? It is easiest for us to avoid CC in the beginning if we go with fresh unprocessed foods. Sweet potatoes are great for bowel regulation so you may want to try adding those to your diet daily to see if it helps. Also check all your meds with the maker as well as any supplements. Be aware that you need to read the whole label on...
  21. The reaction you descibe does sound like a gluten related reaction. Your body seems to be clearly telling you it doesn't want gluten. If you do want to be tested you have to go back on gluten for at least 2 to 3 months before testing.
  22. Welcome to the board. Where you start is by calling the doctor's office and asking to pick up a lab slip for the celiac panel. You do not want to go gluten free before testing as if the diet helps you would then need to go back on gluten for a couple of months before any testing. That can be very painful and make you feel even sicker than you were before...
  23. Go for your upper arm or use your other shoulder or back. IMHO it is best to get them in areas that are easy to cover up with clothes for stuff like job interviews. I have multiple tatoos but unless I wear a sleeveless shirt or a backless dress no one can see (and judge) me because of them.
  24. You can not afford not to find out what this is. If it is a cyst it needs to be drained and that should not be extremely expensive. If it is (heaven forbid) a tumor many times if you have a rather low income the clinic or hospital can help you get Medicaid. If you have a disease or cancer or other serious illness and your income is low then income levels...
  25. I know you don't have insurance but you do need to see a doctor if you can. Not everything is always intolerances and you may have something non-food related going on. Call your local hospital and ask for phone numbers of local clinics that will have a sliding fee scale. You also may qualify for medicaid or your local Social Services office may be able to...
