  1. I find Cream of Buckwheat to be a good breakfast and quite soothing. It keeps me filled up for a while. I like it with cinnamon which can help keep my blood sugar more stable. Sweet potatoes also seem to help me digestive wise. Cinnamon is good on those too and they could be cooked ahead and reheated at work. I also use Pepto for the stomach pain and if...
  2. I don't know how long it will be until doctors start to use this method routinely but hopefully it won't be too long. It would negate the need for any gluten challenge and be better for diagnosis than a hit or biopsy. You can find the complete article at the link. In Vitro Gliadin Challenge: Diagnostic Accuracy and Utility for the Difficult Diagnosis...
  3. I am so sorry you are in such pain. I think a lot of us wish there was some med we could take and live like gluten eating folks. A lot of us were on many toxic meds before diagnosis and got little relief from them and they did more harm than good. It is great that we can heal so much from just avoiding gluten, and whatever else we may have to avoid. In my...
  4. I agree with the previous poster. You could also try keeping a supply of treats similiar to your forbidden items but that are safe on hand. Or try going for a walk, excercising, or get on board here for support when you feel a binge coming on. We will help if we can.
  5. IMHO you are diagnosed by the best test there is, your reaction to gluten. You may also have an allergy to wheat and or DH. You do need to have active lesions to have a DH test. They would biopsy the skin next to a lesion to look for the antibodies and the doctor needs to request the DH test from the lab. Your stool test was likely as you thought for parasites...
  6. I would, after I told them where I volunteer that I would be out for almost a month. That's a lot of money when you have very little. Of course after the tax man gets his share it would only be about half that. PS Nine or ten years ago my answer would have been quite different.
  7. I am glad your children were able to get the help they needed and are now doing much better. I have walked in your shoes and still do so daily. I have never said that folks who are having difficulties should not get help or treatment. But I do not think it should be a diagnosis given by one doctor who only sees the kids a couple times in the instances of...
  8. At least not on the OP's end.
  9. For me it would be a double wammy because I don't tolerate soy. I do miss soy sauce. If you are back on gluten for testing your reactions may also be building up. It can take a bit to react when we add it back in so not all notice stomach issues as the first symptom.
  10. It also should be noted that not all neuros are aware that the UBOs (white spots on the MRI) mean anything. I had several and was told they meant nothing and lots of people have them. (here have a prozac) If I had not been looking at the MRI films and asked what they were the doctor would not have even told me they were there. If my neuro had known what they...
  11. I hope everything goes well for her and she heals quickly. It is hard when our fur family is ill or injured, sometimes I think it is harder on us than on them though. Let us know how she is doing when you can.
  12. If your doctor doesn't get right back to you with a referral to the GI call your insurance company as you may not need one. If that is the case you can make the appointment directly. As was mentioned you do need to be on a regular gluten filled diet for testing and you may still get a false negative. You do have the alternative of just going gluten free...
  13. Personally I wouldn't drink it.
  14. I agree completely. Go ahead and keep her strictly gluten free. She may have symptom relief before you even go back for the biopsy results. Being gluten free is not going to have any effect on testing for any issues other than celiac and with those two positive blood tests she does need the diet no matter what the biopsy results are. It would be a good idea...
  15. Your problem may not be the lactose in the dairy but the casien. Drop all dairy products for a bit and see if it helps. You should also consider dropping soy for a bit. Butter is lactose and casien free for the most part and for some of us is a better choice than most butter type spreads as those will be mostly soy based and all have casien. Try almond, rice...
  16. I think I would talk to an allergist and explain the situation and your symptoms. If you are allergic rather than intolerant, which it sounds like you might be, reactions can become life threatening and you may need to keep an epi pen with you. If you are allergic and the antihistimines do the trick that would be great but I wouldn't experiment without seeing...
  17. How long have you been gluten-free? Things can be up and down at first but if we stick to mostly whole foods we heal with less accidental cross contamination. The amount of time that a reaction lasts can vary from person to person. I only get D for one day as long as I am not continueing to CC myself but my other symptoms last a couple of weeks. Have you...
  18. You should call your OB/GYN if it continues in the morning. Tell them you may be preggers and ask what to do. They will know what is safe for you to take.
  19. I find it infuriating that meds do not have to follow the same regs for binders that food does as far as labeling allergins. The only thing we can do is find out the maker before we get the script, then go on the computer and put the makers name and the word contact in a search engine and then call the number that comes up. A long and frustrating process...
  20. What a nice idea. Your holiday activities sound like a lot of fun. Don't know if I would like the cold water if it was more than a sprinkle though. I'd be the one there in a raincoat all day. Where are you from? Easter was the only holiday that we had as just us. We didn't have much money so most holidays we shared with our cousins at their house which...
  21. You stated you had some improvement during the short time you were gluten-free. You felt worse when you did the challenge. Don't be afraid of the test results. If they were positive you have your answer and can now start to heal. Even if the tests were not positive your feeling better on the diet and worse when you added gluten back in so that really gives...
  22. Please try not to worry too much until the test results are in. Do you have the hallmark butterfuly rash on your face? If not try to put your concerns to the background until after you get the bloodwork done. The symptoms you are referring to could all be related to the celiac and if they are you really need to be strict with the diet and patient with your...
  23. Not at all. That is exactly what I do. I don't say I need gluten free meds. After all wheat starch is considered gluten free by processing. I say I have a wheat allergy. Rye and barley are not an issue in script meds (although they can be found in 'gluten-free' supplements).
  24. You may want to consider an actual gluten challenge. Eat something like Cream of Wheat or Triscuits or add wheat germ to cereal 3 times a day for a week. Gluten reactions can be delayed so you want to give it a full week unless you react sooner.
  25. If that was all they did that was far from a full panel. The IGA looks like your total IGA...but they didn't do an antigliadin IGA or the DGPs. It is good your getting copies of your results. Do post the results when you get them. There are lots of folks who are good with the test info who will be better able to help you then.
