ARCHIVED Testing For Lupus And Other Blood Clotting Disorders?
ravenwoodglass replied to Blue-eyed bandit's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had something called livedo reticularis since childhood. What your describing sounds like that. At first it appeared just when I was cold but later it was a constant. It took a few months gluten free for it to resolve. You do have a good doctor to be making sure it isn't a symptom of another condition. It may go away on it's own though once your inflammation... -
ARCHIVED Confused! (And Wanting Advice!)
ravenwoodglass replied to Athena85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good point. A dermatologist can biopsy the intact skin next to an active lesion but they do have to tell the lab that is what they are looking for. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac and no other testing is needed. -
I'm sorry you are having such mixed feeling about you acheivement. I can identify. I had to leave school because I was so ill and was only 2 classes from graduating. It took 8 years of healing before I was able to complete my degrees. I didn't even get a card or any acknowledgement of how difficult it was for me to finally finish. When we struggle so hard...

ARCHIVED Confused! (And Wanting Advice!)
ravenwoodglass replied to Athena85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you no longer have insurance you may want to consider just going strictly gluten free. It sounds like they have ruled out a lot of stuff and since false negatives on testing are not uncommon you have nothing to lose. If you really feel you have to have a doctor tell you not to eat gluten then you do need to keep eating it until you can have an endo... -
ARCHIVED Making Sense Of Labs...
ravenwoodglass replied to Type1CDE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. The DGP is the newest, most sensitive and most specific of the celiac tests from what I understand. Your reading was very high and that leaves no doubt about your need to be gluten free. Read as much as you can here and ask any other questions you need to. If you are going to have an endo stay on gluten until that is done. Then the day... -

If you are early in the healing process then raw veggies will likely be hard to digest. -

Wheat is not a veggie and would not be an issue in the olive oil. -
ARCHIVED It's Hard To Stay Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to h.leah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OP, it is hard when you are living with gluten eaters. The folks here have already given you some good answers and I hope that the suggestions help. If you are a pizza fan Kinnickinnick crusts are pretty good for a premade crust. Hormel Pepperoni is gluten free as are most sausages. I have pizza at least once a month. I don't know where you live but if you... -

I hope they figure out what is going on and she feels better soon. Thanks for the update on how she is doing. -

Very well put and I agree completely.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Edema (In So Much Discomfort!)
ravenwoodglass replied to Emilem's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have had positive blood tests you need the diet BUT you shouldn't have gone gluten free until after the endo is done as that will cause a false negative. You can go gluten free for life the day of the biopsy. Celiac can cause edema. In my case it was because celiac was attacking my kidneys but that isn't the only reason as far as I know. In my case... -
I have multiple tatoos and have never had an issue with them even before I became gluten free. I had minor DH outbreaks after going gluten free but those stopped after I eliminated iodized salt a couple years into the diet. I haven't had an outbreak now in years.

ARCHIVED Still Learning
ravenwoodglass replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would get her in wherever she can be seen soonest. She might get to Mayo quickest with a referral from her ped if they feel she needs a specialist not available in your city. -
ARCHIVED Still Learning
ravenwoodglass replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ataxia is a loss of balance. What you are describing does not sound like ataxia, IMHO. It would be a good idea to get her to the doctor very soon to be checked out. If it happens again before you can get her into the doctor call an ambulance. Better to be safe than sorry. -
Sometimes I wonder if some of these 'diagnosis' that they are labeling children with are really disabilities at all. There is no doubt that those with the most serious forms of autism need to be given all the help possible to achieve a more normal and productive life. But autism has many spectrums and some of the more mild forms, like Aspergers, produce adults...

ARCHIVED Gluten Bread Weird Taste/smell
ravenwoodglass replied to jilliann's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the board. How long have you been gluten free? I ask because it can take a while before our taste 'memories' of bread fade. For some gluten free breads can have a strange taste at first. Some people find it helps to go a couple months without bread before trying the gluten free ones. Most of our breads are also better toasted or warmed. Not everyone... -
ARCHIVED What Is Making Me Sick?
ravenwoodglass replied to suziq0805's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You might want to drop all the suspect items and then when you are feeling better add them back in one at a time a week apart and see if you can pinpoint what is getting you that way. -
I wouldn't wrap with Saranwrap. Your skin needs to breathe. I used to use non-latex fabric bandaids with a bit of neosporin. The glove advice is also good. I use thrift store cotton or real thin leather when I am working with stuff and non-latex unpowdered when doing wet things. I get the non-powdered disposables in my local pharmacey.

ARCHIVED Sharing A Hospital Gluten-Free Experience
ravenwoodglass replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The head of the hospital and the dietary dept. need to be notified about this. Send a letter with info on what is gluten free and what isn't. Glad the friend knew better than to eat anything they served. Vomiting or stomach cramps and D are no fun even if you don't have stitches to be torn. -
ARCHIVED Tired Of How People Look At Me
ravenwoodglass replied to kaity's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Other forms of gluten are barley, rye and oats. Barley Malt is a problem with almost all cereals. If he is diagnosed celiac already he doesn't need to go back on gluten if the doctors suspect something else is happening. If they are saying to go back on gluten because he had positive blood work but didn't have an endo please know that positive blood tests... -

ARCHIVED Hair Strand Allergy Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chicken, beef, chebe bread, oranges, grapefruit, peas, broccoli, haddock, shrimp, wild rice (which is not rice), cucumbers, carrots, sweet potatos, peppers, apples, pears, peaches and much more is not on that list. Concentrate on what you can eat not what you can't. Then when it is time to add stuff back add one item at a time for a full week to watch for... -
ARCHIVED How To Read A Lyme Disease Panel
ravenwoodglass replied to Marilyn R's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cat's Claw is a South American herb that has been in use for a very long time. If I remember correctly it helps with inflammation. I took it for quite a while prediagnosis. I have never heard of it being used with Lyme but I am not real knowledgeable about Lyme treatments.
