  1. Sorry folks are giving you a hard time. It isn't unusual to have an overwhelming depression hit when glutened. I get suicidal when I get glutened also. It helps me to realize it will lift and that it is the gluten that is making me feel that way. Don't be afraid of calling a hot line they can be very helpful and are not judgemental. A good counselor may be...
  2. AFAIK all the Garneir hair products are safe but read the labels. They will label clearly. I just bring my own shampoo and conditioner with me along with any styling aids I might need. When I colored my hair I also used their haircoloring. Perhaps you could bring some with you and your stylist could use that. If you do highlights or lowlights get two shades...
  3. Good luck with the scope. I hope you get some answers but do keep in mind that false negatives are fairly common so do try the diet strictly after your scope is done. You don't need to wait for the results.
  4. I am one of those unlucky few. If you are new to the diet you may want to go with alcohol that is not distilled from gluten grains and then when you are well healed do a challenge with it. Chances are good you will be fine with distilled gluten as only a very few of us react. If you are new to the diet you may have trouble with any alcohols until you are...
  5. Are you working or in school? If so what are you doing for work? Are you working with children or in the food industry? I wonder if you are getting small amounts of CC from something that you are doing during the day rather than from food.
  6. If you are supplementing folate then your B12 reading can show higher than it really is. Also with the B12 it is helpful to have previous levels to compare it to since it can show higher in the blood than we are able to utilize and previous testing can show if your numbers are dropping. In addition some doctors now want the lower number to be higher than...
  7. When I deglutened my home all I did was vacuum up drawers for crumbs and wash everything down with soap and water. That did the trick in my house.
  8. Celiac does usually require a trigger and an illness or severe stress can not only trigger celiac but contribute to excaberation of symptoms in those already symptomatic. Even though she doesn't have either of the two genes considered in the US to be the main celiac associated genes she could still be celiac. Her DQ9 gene is the one I have a double dose...
  9. Welcome to the board. Yes it does sound like you may be celiac. Do make sure you don't go gluten free until all testing is finished. However even if your test results are negative you should still give the diet a good strict try as false negatives do happen. If you do have problems with gluten then yes the problems you are having should hopefully resolve...
  10. It is possible but it is also possible you won't. My DS was diagnosed at 19 but his growth plates had already fused so he didn't grow any more at all. As another poster mentioned you could get x-rays to see if your growth plates have fused. 6'2" is a great height though. Be glad your growth wasn't stopped in earlier childhood as happens with some of us.
  11. I go with either wine or a clear rum and coke. If you often go to the same place you could also ask the bar manager (during an off time, perhaps afternoon) to order you some Redbridge or another gluten-free beer. If you are a regular they will often comply.
  12. What is he eating for protein and carbs? If he is seriously underweight already any kind of fast would not be a good thing. Juicing along with a balanced diet wouldn't be a bad thing but if that is all he is planning on consuming he could be doing damage to his body. How old is your son? Anorexia is becoming more common with young men so do be sure he isn...
  13. Hi, I am actually in the US. The only gene I have really researched is mine. I have two DQ9, one from each parent, so I am a double DQ9. You have one copy of one of the most common celiac associated genes, DQ2 and you have a DQ7. You got the DQ2 from one parent and the DQ7 from the other AFAIK. You will also pass on either the DQ2 or DQ7 to your children...
  14. May not apply to that restaurant but one of the ones I worked at used to use the same bowl for all the Ceasar salads made at lunch or dinner hour. Everything for the individual serving including croutons was tossed in then dressing added and all was swirled around then dumped in the serving bowl. The next salad would be then made without rinsing the mixing...
  15. I would have kept mine gluten-free during early childhood if I had been diagnosed. If only for my own safety. While I would keep a gluten free home I wouldn't stop them from eating gluten outside the home when they reached school age unless they had symptoms. There is no way to keep them gluten free from birth till death though as when children become young...
  16. The only thing I have to add to the reply from Mushroom is that just because your Mom tested negative doesn't mean she isn't celiac or gluten intolerant. Hopefully she has given the diet a good strict try. If she hasn't then please advise her to do so. Testing does miss some of us. I was the most severely impacted in my family and showed negative on testing...
  17. Gluten ataxia is a problem with balance. I compare it to walking on a ship in a rolling sea. There is a test for it. An MRI will show something called UBOs (unidentified bright objects) that show up as white spots on an MRI. Celiac can contribute to many neuro and mental issues and hopefully the problems you are dealing with will fade in time. If you do...
  18. Are you eating a mostly whole foods diet with as little chance of CC as possible? If not you may want to drop processed foods for a bit and see if that helps. I get the same sort of brain issues you are dealing with and for me it would be from accidental gluten injestion. Do be sure to check and make sure any meds and supplements are for sure gluten free...
  19. Now that you have had the testing done you should give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months. False negatives on testing are not uncommon. I know that from unfortunate experience.
  20. Do stay on the diet if it is helping. That nurse was IMHO full of it. There is no test for IBS so how could you have shown positive on it! Do as the other poster advised and make sure you get copies of all test results.
  21. Do continue with the diet if it is helping. Be careful about cross contamination and it would be a good idea to avoid dairy and soy until you have healed. You also IMHO need a new doctor. If you do want more celiac testing you do need to get back on gluten until that is done.
  22. No one biopsy is not enough to have taken to rule out celiac and both blood tests and biopsies have a high false negative rate. I could have written your post a few years ago and it is so frustrating to be so sick and get the IBS diagnosis which isn't even really a diagnosis but a symptom. I would suggest that you get on the diet very strictly, eating whole...
  23. I was going to try Rogaine a while back but since it, at least at that time, contained wheat protein I put it back on the shelf. For me both gluten and soy cause hair loss.
  24. A quick search will bring up many articles on neurological disorders in celiac disease and their possible causes. You can hop to others on pubmed from this one. Regional cerebral hypoperfusion in patients with celiac disease Open Original Shared Link
  25. Put the cookie down and go wash your hands. Barley malt is not okay nor are oats unless they are certified gluten free. Many of us also can not handle oats even if they are gluten-free so wait until you are well healed before trying certified gluten free oats. By the by, barley and wheat grass may technically be considered gluten free but you still should...
