ARCHIVED Dentist Visit
ravenwoodglass replied to TiaMichi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not everyone is sensitive to the gums. I have had many impressions done and never had a reaction. My dentist did check on the impression material as far as gluten goes and in my case it was gluten free. Wishing you good luck and hoping the repair to your tooth goes well. -
You could very well be celiac or gluten intolerant. Both would require a strict gluten free diet. DO NOT go gluten free or gluten light until you are done with testing. Some of us do have false negative tests so do give the diet a good strict try when testing is done. I hope you are feeling better soon.

ARCHIVED Drywall Repairs
ravenwoodglass replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's a really good point. When I was doing drywall work we would use a fine spray mist of water sprayed into the air to try and get the dust to fall more quickly. It also helps to spray just a bit on the seams to keep the dust down when you are doing the finish sanding on the mud. -

If you had a problem after the cleaning mention it to your dentist. Mine uses plain pumice and was more than willing to check to make sure that all he used was safe. He said the only thing he needed to changed was what he used to polish my teeth. Whether he actually found the stuff he usually used had gluten or was just being on the safe side I don't know... -

Well I will just have to run right out and get me some Codex Wheat starch. Nice to know based on this study of abut 50 people I can eat it with no damage. Guess my reaction to drywall mud and wallpaper paste and our European members reactions to Codex were all in our heads. -

Thanks for providing those links. The NIH one I posted earlier is also a good one but not all inclusive. It isn't just the drywall, some of those are safe, but also the drywall mud. In addition many wallpapers use 'non-toxic' wheat paste as an adhesive. The OP was right to be concerned. One of the worst glutenings I had post-diagnosis was after doing drywall... -
ARCHIVED Does Dermatitis Herpetiformis React Well To Regular Antibiotics?
ravenwoodglass replied to QueenEe's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
DH has been with us for for a long time but for many it is misdiagnosed as something else. I think the rising rates are due to more doctors recognizing it for what it is rather than giving the blanket diagnosis of 'dermatitis' etc. My mother had it severely beginning in childhood, which for her was in the 1920's. I also had it severely from childhood and... -
ARCHIVED So Confused
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you don't have problems with gluten then adding it back into your diet is not going to cause a problem. It can take up to a week for the antibodies to build up and cause a definate reaction after we have been gluten free for a bit. You are starting to react already but the worst may still be to come. I hope you don't get too ill but if you do get severely... -

Coffee will not gluten you. If you are newly diagnosed it may be too much for your stomach but that is not a gluten issue. Coffee is safe. -
I used to get gluten migraines also. They did get milder as time wore on. I also have significant hair loss when glutened which still is as bad as it was at diagnosis so I don't think it was related to the migraine but more to the autoimmune effect of the glutening. If you still have DH issues with your scalp are you making sure your hair care products...

ARCHIVED Are There Any Blood Tests If I'm Already gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to erikamarie87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you checked to make sure all the meds you are on are gluten free? Many times the script bottle will have the maker on it and a quick search using their name and the words contact info should get you a phone number. -
It does sound like you might have gotten glutened. Many times we do become more sensitive as time goes on. Avoiding restaurants for a bit would be a good idea. Be easy on your tummy for bit. How have you been feeling before this hit? If you had been feeling pretty good then I would go simply go with as much unprocessed food as you can for a bit. If the toast...

When I travel I bring my own toaster and hot plate along with a pot to cook in. Some hotels also have microwaves in the rooms, ask when you make reservations if you can. Then you can grab safe foods at the store and make sure you have plenty of safe snacks to munch on when the band stops at a fast food place after a gig.

ARCHIVED Coping With Symptoms Until Doctor Visit
ravenwoodglass replied to wendy74's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If by chance you are being woken up at night by the D do be sure to mention that to the doctor. IBS doesn't do that so that symptom would rule out the blanket IBS diagnosis that so many of us get. If you have been back on gluten for at least a couple months you could ask the nurse if they will let you pick up a lab slip for the panel so that will be done... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to NatureLover36's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree it is time to get some tests. Keep eating gluten until celiac testing is finished. With left sided abdominal pain your GI will likely want to do a colonoscopy and do make sure he also does a endoscopy at the same time. Lower left side pain can be caused by diverticulosis but it also could be an ovary so the suggestion for a ultrasound should rule... -
ARCHIVED Coping With Symptoms Until Doctor Visit
ravenwoodglass replied to wendy74's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well no matter what the results of the tests are your body is definately giving you the answer as to whether it wants gluten, IMHO. You could try calling the doctors office and speaking with a nurse. Tell her what is happening and ask if you can get in sooner. If you are having D every couple hours that can get to be a dangerous situation and you may be able... -
ARCHIVED Weird Looking "object" In Gluten-Free Mall Banner
ravenwoodglass replied to RiceGuy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This has been a really fun thread for the most part. I think the most obvious answer is the photographer took a whole bunch of different shots and then found out after the shoot that if the models face wasn't in the ad he would only owe her a portion of the usual fee. This was the one shot he took that didn't have her face and was taken by accident when he... -
ARCHIVED Problems Tolerating Lactaid Tablet?
ravenwoodglass replied to mamaupupup's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is possible that she is reacting to casien and if that is the case lactaid tablets would not help. You may want to drop all dairy for a bit, watch out for casien on labels of 'dairy free' items, and see if that helps. -
Perhaps your general manager needs to have it pointed out that celiac is covered under the Disabilities Act. To lay you off or fire you because of what you need to do to keep you safe would violate that act. Maybe you could talk to HR about this issue.

ARCHIVED Reese's
ravenwoodglass replied to RashyA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am pretty sensitive and I have never had an issue with them. I usually get the regular size and haven't had the 'seasonal' ones. If your new to a diet be aware that it isn't always gluten and even if it is it isn't always the last thing you ate as reactions can be delayed by up to as much as a few days. -
ARCHIVED Non-Specific White Matter On Mri? Anyone Else Have This?
ravenwoodglass replied to Cara in Boston's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That sounds like it could be UBO's or Unidentified bright objects which show up as white spots on an MRI. They can be diagnostic of celiac that has attacked the brain, as was my case. If his spinal tap comes back clear for the MS debris then chances are pretty good that is what is going on with him. Not all doctors are aware of the connection between the... -

If you can talk to the head chef that is better than the manager. The chef is more likely to be able to answer correctly. -

ARCHIVED Beware B Vitamin Toxicity!
ravenwoodglass replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with everyone getting tested for vitamin levels and that they should get them rechecked periodically. I think the real danger for B vit toxicity lies more with the general population that is using high levels of these in addition to eating regular wheat based goods. Many wheat breads and cereals are fortified with the B vitamins, something that isn...
