  1. One of the most pleasant things about being gluten free is not having to listen to those noises or carry a jacket everywhere to ball up and try to muffle them. For me those noises started in childhood and I realized that if I didn't eat breakfast my tummy would be quieter. I was the nerd that got picked on as it was so I really didn't need anything else for...
  2. Was that a take out pizza? Not all places that do gluten free pizza have pizza that is really gluten free due to all the cross contamination issues. The Glutino pretzels would have gotten me because of the soy but I don't know if that is the case for you. Pepto Bismal liquid usually puts the burn out really quick for me.
  3. Your doctor should have had you go back on gluten for a couple of months before you were tested. If you are gluten free for even a short time before testing you will have a false negative. You can even have a false negative when eating a regular gluten filled diet. If you need a doctors diagnosis then go back on gluten for a couple of months and get retested...
  4. It does look like those are positive tests. Whether your ped will consider testing your son based on your positive tests I don't know. If he won't then perhaps seek out another ped. Keep in mind that false negatives with children are even more common than for adults. Don't take him gluten free until he is tested and talk to your doctor about whether they...
  5. It is possible to eat gluten free on the budget you have but it isn't always easy. I know as I have as little to use for food as you do. I buy one loaf of bread a week and my daily lunch is almost always a pnut butter sandwich. For dinner I do a lot of rice or Thai Kitchen noodles (in the oriental section of the store) with either just butter and a few different...
  6. Gluten reactions can be delayed. There is a chance you were not reacting to what you had just eaten but to the breaded fish you had the night before. If you need to be gluten free you can't just be gluten free during the day and then eat gluten at night. That just doesn't work. If you need a diagnosis before you can fully adopt the diet 24/7 you should go...
  7. You were already reacting to the gluteny foods and then you continued and topped things off with the beer. Sure does sound like your pretty well glutened. It may take a week or two before you are feeling better and I hope you heal quickly.
  8. If the only test they ran was the TtG then you should ask your GP to do a full panel.
  9. They should have done a spinal tap afterwards to check for the debris found in the spinal fluid with MS. Celiac disease can cause bright spots called UBOs or unidentified bright objects on a brain MRI. However the debris found on the spinal with MS will not be there. Neuros in this country are woefully unaware that those bright spots are diagnostic of celiac...
  10. Unfortunately there are all too many doctors like this one. It sounds like you know what you need to do which is to become strictly gluten free. I hope you heal quickly and welcome to the board. If you do feel you need an official diagnosis keep eating gluten and ask your GP for a lab slip for a celiac panel. Also you mention you have MS. Did they do a spinal...
  11. Why in the world didn't your doctor tell you how you needed to do the injections? Head back to his office and see either the doctor or a nurse and demand that they write on the needle script the size needed and show you how to self inject if there is some reason you can't do the sublingual tablets.
  12. Get that blood test done ASAP. You do sound like one of us. If your doctor can add vitamin and mineral tests to the lab slip that would be a good thing. B12 especially as the tingling can come from a B12 deficiency. Keep eating gluten until all celiac related testing is finished. If your tests come back positive most doctors will want you to go for an endoscopy...
  13. I have never, ever seen a tuna with wheat in it. The broth usually contains soy, which I have to avoid, but there are varieties with just water or olive oil so as with everything else read the labels. Starkist in the gold can is one with just water and Wegmans recently came out with one also.
  14. I'm so sorry to hear this. I will keep the little guy and his family in my prayers.
  15. Believe me I know your struggles all too well. I also live on a nonexistant income. I do a lot of Thai Kitchen noodles, you can find them in the oriental section of most stores. I do those with just veggies and sometimes a handful of well rinsed canned beans. I'm lucky to live in an area with a Wegmans which helps as they label all their gluten-free stuff...
  16. Thanks for the update. That will be one I will avoid also. I do tend to go to Pepsi most of the time except for an occasional root beer float.
  17. Or you may have been reacting to the soy sauce you had yesterday or the day before. Our reactions can be delayed by up to a week. If you can stay out of restaurants for a bit and go with whole foods that you cook fresh at home. Also be sure to take the precautions in the house that you need to. Your own new toaster, new butter and condiments that are for...
  18. If I had to have positive blood tests before diagnosis I would have been, as my current GI puts it, 'diagnosed celiac by autopsy'. I was repeatedly blood tested and repeatedly false negative and I was very, very ill (understatement of the year lol) Since the blood tests were negative no doctors thought to do a biopsy. I did finally get my diagnosis from...
  19. It sounds like your doctor isn't really concerned with this. Since you are newly diagnosed and celiac can impact liver function you may want to ask the doctor what he is looking for with the ultrasound and/or if you can hold off on it and recheck when you have been gluten-free for a bit. The liver issues may resolve on their own gluten free and if you are...
  20. It is my understanding that the IgA is quite specific to celiac. IMHO with your family history you should go gluten free and then retest and see if the IgA levels go down.
  21. You have that many relatives that are diagnosed and the doctor refused to even test! As the previous poster said you need to find a new doctor and write a letter to your doctor(s) and explain why. If they are part of a medical group you might even want to send copies of that letter to the head of the group.
  22. Her numbers should come down after she has been on the diet for a bit. Many doctors will recheck levels at 6 months to a year gluten-free. By the way since your Mom was diagnosed that means you should also be tested along with the rest of your family if you haven't been already. Read as much as you can here to help your Mom and keep her safe and ask any other...
  23. Try and relax until you hear from the company. Chances are really in your favor that you were not glutened. While barley malt does not have to be listed most companies will list it if it is there.
  24. I agree you should talk to your doctor about your concerns. If your DH hasn't seen a doctor yet to figure out why his FF score was so high it would be a good idea if he did.
  25. I think everyone does that now and then.
