ARCHIVED On Going Problems Celiac Related?
ravenwoodglass replied to SivaK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is good that you are following up with the hemetologist and hopefully he will have some answers. You could of course also have other intolerances. Soy and dairy being a couple of the most common. Have you tried doing a food and symptom log? Or going with just whole foods like meats, fruits and veggies, for a while to see if it helps. You also need to... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed In Chidhood But Not On Gluten Free Til Now
ravenwoodglass replied to Pabboo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Ask any questions you need to a be sure to read as much as you can. You figure right. You don't outgrow celiac. It sounds like he may have had the 'honeymoon' period that used to make doctors think you could outgrow celiac. It is now know that you don't. He does need to go back to strictly gluten free and hopefully he will be feeling... -
ARCHIVED Desperate!
ravenwoodglass replied to Ranne10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. You have a positive blood test and are responding well to the diet. Your symptoms are classic celiac symptoms. There is a reason you are deficient in all those vitamin levels. You don't need a doctors permission to be gluten free but if you feel you need a formal diagnosis for any reason, (to encourage other family to test, work... -
ARCHIVED My Endoscopy......
ravenwoodglass replied to roxieb73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad your celiac related testing is over and you can now give the diet a good strict go. You may find your issues resolve before the other tests are even done but if not do make sure your doctors orders gluten free barium for the upper GI series. The liquid will be thin and not at all chalky. They mixed mine with cranberry juice. Compared to the regular gluten... -
ARCHIVED Conflicting Responses From Doctors
ravenwoodglass replied to sk26's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think your internist is right. It is up to you whether you want or need to have the biopsy or not. Do be sure to tell your internist what happened with the GI ASAP. He may want to refer you to someone different. Positive blood work is positive and you would have a chance of a false negative with the biopsy even with a different doctor so know you need the... -
ARCHIVED Day 41, Symptoms Worsening
ravenwoodglass replied to Raywuwei's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are living with 3 guys. Is this house a gluten free house? If not how careful is everyone to not cross contaminate you? Do you have your own toaster, strainers for gluten-free pasta and rinsing fruits and veggies, your own condiments, nut butters etc? If you BF is not gluten free does he brush is teeth before you guys kiss? Are you eating mostly whole... -
ARCHIVED Selfish/lazy To Stay In Bed?
ravenwoodglass replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry you are feeling so badly right now. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate and getting glutened isn't helping you to accomplish all you want or need to do. You are not selfish or lazy. You have an autoimmune disease that you are fighting. Do what you can and forgive yourself for what you can't. If you haven't been able to train for the 30... -
ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Eczema To You?
ravenwoodglass replied to dani nero's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Is she gluten free? If not avoiding iodine will do no good. Not everyone with DH will have to do a strict low iodine diet. I simply cut out iodized salt and I healed fairly quickly. I didn't cut any other foods other than gluten. -
ARCHIVED Heat Rash
ravenwoodglass replied to Gunkle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you seen a derm? I think those are kind of unusual places for a heat rash. I wonder if you could be sensitive to either the sun or maybe sunblock (if you use it) Hopefully a derm will know what is going on as it does look quite uncomfortable. Maybe cold compresses could help a bit or others will have some insight. -
ARCHIVED Lost And Confused. So Sick. Please Advise.
ravenwoodglass replied to shanluts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they test your total IGA? If your's is low then it would cause a false negative on the TGA related tests. -
ARCHIVED Degrees Of Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to nst's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In addition to the great info above keep in mind that celiac is an autoimmune disease and does not just damage intestines. It can also damage pretty much any organ including but not limited to gallbladder, thyroid, liver and brain. It you have positive blood work you are producting antibodies even if you don't have any noticeable symptoms if you consume... -
ARCHIVED Another B12 Question
ravenwoodglass replied to beebee07's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are having issues that could be B12 related, like tingling in the hands or feet for example, it won't do any harm to see if a sub will help. Our levels can read in the normal ranges for a while even after our body isn't able to utilize it any longer. Some doctors are now wanting us to supplement when levels are below 500. -
ARCHIVED Can You Help Me With My Gene Test Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to scstampin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gene tests can not be used to firmly rule celiac in or out. Many have one of the two most commonly associated genes and never develop celiac and others have celiac but not one of those two genes. Has your doctor done any other celiac related tests on you? If not they should. And yes with a DD positive to both blood and biopsy your DH also needs to be tested... -
ARCHIVED Gotu Kola Ever Heard Of It? Neither Did I
ravenwoodglass replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I never heard of it either so had to look it up. Sounds like it has been around awhile in Oriental medicine. If you decide to try it make sure you don't have any of the stuff going on that contraindicates it's use. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Results "possible Celiac"
ravenwoodglass replied to lorah322's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Even after some time gluten-free you are still showing some damage. Your doctor thinks it all fits. I would not hesitate to call myself celiac. Your doctor may in some ways also be doing you a favor insurance wise since if you are ever without insurance you won't have 'celiac' as a preexisting condition. Your doctor could also give you your 'official' diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Cleansemore
ravenwoodglass replied to Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Chances are good that the diet will help with the constipation. Can you take these on an as needed basis rather than daily? A couple other things that we can be sensitive to that may cause C are dairy and soy. Soy is the big offender for myself. We can be dependant on anything whether it is natural or not. Opium is natural but quite addictive, as one example... -
ARCHIVED Tomorrow Is The Day
ravenwoodglass replied to KMMO320's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stay on the diet if it is helping and it sounds like it is. Do get actual copies of the endo and blood results and post. Some doctors don't like to diagnose unless villi are totally destroyed and ignore the stages that come before total destruction. Ulcers can be the result of celiac also. -
ARCHIVED Shocked At Endoscopy Results
ravenwoodglass replied to CathleenAnna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes you would need to see a GI doctor for biopsy but any doctor can order the panel. However you do need to go back to eating gluten for a couple of months to get the best chance of an accurate test. If going back on gluten makes you very ill then you do have your answer. Let your doctor know if the diet has relieved your symptoms and let them know if the... -
ARCHIVED Do These Results Look Like A Food Allergy To You?
ravenwoodglass replied to MoMof2Boyz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Rice Dream uses barley in the processing. Many of us have problems with it. Perhaps use a different brand or watch carefully for signs of reactions or delays in healing. -
ARCHIVED My Doctor Is Being A Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to FinlandGrl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like your Endo already knows you have an issue with gluten. If you are already gluten free she is right that you would need to eat gluten for at least 3 months before testing. And that would be a miserable time to put it mildly. Your doctor sounds like a real B but she is right about the need for the challenge. You might just want to consider yourself... -
ARCHIVED Tomorrow Is The Day
ravenwoodglass replied to KMMO320's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since you are feeling a bit better gluten-free stay that way for a bit and then challenge if you feel the need after a couple of months no matter what the results. As was mentioned false negatives are unfortunately all too common. If you had that grilled chicken at work there is a good chance it was CC'd unless they use a clean pan to cook it in and took... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed By Dentist With Grinding Of Teeth
ravenwoodglass replied to MikeOhio's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Previous poster is correct. The damage from teeth grinding is obvious to a dentist. It wears the teeth down on the biting surfaces. I used to be a grinder and trained myself to keep my tongue or cheek between my teeth. I really should have gotten a mouth guard instead. I would give the guard a try. If it is too uncomfortable then drop it's use. You may find... -
ARCHIVED Strange Skin Problem On Hands.
ravenwoodglass replied to fikct's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My advice to you would be to see a derm. Your nail moons are very white and the skin under your nails very dark. I think that would provide some clues to a dermatologist as to what is going on. Also have you had any vitamin panels done? If you are deficient in some vitamins that can affect the skin and nails. Hopefully some other folks here will be on... -
ARCHIVED Strange Skin Problem On Hands.
ravenwoodglass replied to fikct's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Welcome to the board. I hope I don't overwhelm you with all these questions but here goes. Are your hands sensitive to cold? Have you seen a dermatologist? Do you work with any chemicals or in someplace like a bakery? Do you use any lotions? When you went gluten free did you go with whole unprocessed foods and not add any specialty gluten free products... -
ARCHIVED Ms Or Atypical Migraine?
ravenwoodglass replied to Adalaide's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You mention that you had an MRI. If that was of your brain usually MS lesions will be visible if you have MS. Try not to worry to much but do get things checked out. Make sure you check to make sure that the med you were prescribed is gluten free.
