This thread is a couple years old and the OP has not been around since asking the original question. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to kkline's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. I would be quite interested in this study. Do you have a link to it? -
Just another thought. Do you consume soy products? Soy for me is a no go because it flares my joints and give me tummy issues.

I eat it all the time and have no issues. I am very sensitive. What are the ingredients of the items you eat it with? Pizza crust etc. You may be intolerant either to something in one of them or you system may just not be able to handle something else in the pepperoni. I notice you are new so welcome. If your having it on pizza what are you cooking the pizza...

ARCHIVED Any Tips For Gaining Weight After celiac disease Diagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to GLUTEN FREE IN SLC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What worked for me was eating 3 balanced meals and in the morning I would open a bag of Wylde pretzels, they are about 1000 calories a bag and soy and gluten free, and I would munch them off and on all day. That would give me an extra 1000 calories without much effort. Wouldn't work for someone watching their carbs but for me it helped me gain back the 1... -
Don't apologize for the thread. We all need to vent sometimes and it is hard when we are sitting at a table with folks all eating the stuff we love to eat but now can't. I think I would want to strangle someone who dared to bring Long John Silvers battered shrimp or KFC and plop it down in front of me. Really glad the venting helped and you were able to enjoy...

They make little disposable single use toothbrushes that include the paste. They're small and would fit well in purse or pocket. Those would take care of the problem I would think.

ARCHIVED Such Thing As To Many Vitamins?
ravenwoodglass replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Can you call your doctor or the dietian to ask how much? Levels for one person may be different than for someone else as it depends on how low your levels are to start. -
ARCHIVED Chips Yum
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisaann1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only Lay's products I personally will touch are in the first part of the list. Been burned by CC to many times to risk the bottom section. Different people will have different sensitivities so those new to the diet should use caution until they are sure how sensitive their systems are. -
ARCHIVED Post Endoscopy, Awaiting Results And Confused
ravenwoodglass replied to archaeo in FL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This only applies when they are positive. False negatives are fairly common. -
ARCHIVED Should I Mention Celiac To My Doctor?
ravenwoodglass replied to MrsMcC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you should be tested but do be aware that even on gluten the tests can come back a false negative. As was advised do have them do full vitamin and mineral panels as well and make sure they do a total IGA. If the celiac tests come back positive then you will likely be referred for an endoscopy. If that is the case then do keep eating gluten until that... -
ARCHIVED Skippy Peanut Butter
ravenwoodglass replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are a Unilever company and that company is very good about labeling. Open Original Shared Link Are all Skippy Nut butters gluten free? Information available: Ingredients that may contain any of the top eight allergens as defined by the FDA: Peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, seafood, wheat, eggs, and milk or dairy, as well as any ingredient... -
ARCHIVED How Does Everyone Feel When They Cheat?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this problem. You might want to start a new thread asking for ways to cope with this issue in the Coping section. You also may want to consider doing a gluten challenge for 3 months or so and then get tested despite the fact that false negatives are common. You may find you do get a positive result or your challenge may make... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Interpret My Blood Work Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Queserasera's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they also run a total IGA? If you are low or defiecient in IGA that would cause a false negative. -
ARCHIVED Results Are In!
ravenwoodglass replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Inner elbows and knees are typical places for a DH rash. We do have good days and bad days in the beginning so you may want to continue on the diet and see if eventually your good days are much more frequent. I hope you are feeling better soon. -
You have only recently been diagnosed and it does take some time to heal. The low B12 is likely the cause of the tingling in your hands but since it has gotten worse after the shot call your doctor about it and see what they say. Personally I would give yourself time to heal before seeing a neuro. If the issues don't resolve in a few weeks then do explore...

ARCHIVED Even My Mom Can Be Rude About Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do make sure to ask if they marinate the meat with soy sauce. Regular soy sauce has wheat so you would want to avoid that. -
Thanks for letting us know how much better your doing. I could have written some of your post as I also had severe joint involvement. It is so nice to be able to button a shirt, hold a pen or a screwdriver and type again. I also had negative blood tests but my GI didn't get to do the endo because he demanded a gluten challenge. He told me I only had to do...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free 1 Year - Tummy Aches Return
ravenwoodglass replied to dpoker52's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Can you pinpoint anything that might have changed? Arts and crafts she started, a new pet that eats gluten food, new supplements or other medication, new toiletries etc? Are the others in your home gluten free? If not could someone have accidentally double dipped into your DD's nut butters or condiments or used her strainer or toaster? -
ARCHIVED Severe Joint Pain In Several Areas At Once
ravenwoodglass replied to AusNiki's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. 2 weeks is very short into the healing phase and it is good that you are seeing results already. For me it was about 6 months before the pain resolved. Complete relief for me required dropping soy also but that may not be the case for you. Celiac is very inflammatory and it seems it can attack any part of the body. It sounds like you... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Just Called
ravenwoodglass replied to trayne91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The good thing is now you know. Go to the coping section and read Celiac 101. That should give you some good info. Ask any questions you need to and we will do the best we can to help you transistion into the gluten free lifestyle. -
ARCHIVED Something Isn't Right
ravenwoodglass replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Everyone is different but I have problems with products with sorghum, soy or bean flour. It can be hard in the beginning to tell whether you have been CC'd or are intolerant to a gluten free ingredient that is in the mix. Some of us will eventually be able to recognize our gluten CC reactions as they will have features that our other intolerances don't. It... -
ARCHIVED Even My Mom Can Be Rude About Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kim, something that might work for you all is to put the name of your Mom's city and the words 'gluten free restaurants' in a search engine. See what comes up and then suggest a couple that she could pick her favorite from. That might work better than asking her where she wants to go. People don't understand how difficult it is for us and it can be hard for... -
I have never heard of a barium scan being used for a follow-up after a celiac diagnosis. Maybe the doctor meant you might need one if your symptoms hadn't resolved on the diet. Just my guess.

ARCHIVED My Psychologist Suggested I Have Gluten Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to Astrid1986's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Wow you sure do have a good shrink! I had to educate mine. Celiac is much more than just a gut disorder. (I use celiac and gluten intolerance interchangably because IMHO they are the same thing) Celiac can cause the psychological issues you are dealing with, not always the case of course but many times we see great relief from those...
