ARCHIVED Red Skin And Fatigue?
ravenwoodglass replied to MrMatchStick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It sounds like your body is trying really hard to get you to stop cheating. When we get gluten after we go gluten free the body often reacts more strongly. While I have never had the blotches the fatigue I get from a glutening lasts for about 2 to 3 weeks and my neuro symptoms flare up for a while. For me that means a return of balance issues now but before... -
ARCHIVED Red Skin And Fatigue?
ravenwoodglass replied to MrMatchStick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You may still want to mention this to your doctor. You may have a true allergy to wheat in addition to the celiac especially if the blotches were itchy. If they didn't itch then perhaps it was simply inflammation. Glad to hear you are feeling better. -
Being IGA deficient will usually cause false negatives with gluten IGA testing. If your antibody levels are still high it is likely you are still getting gluten somewhere. Have you checked all meds and supplements? Have you eliminated gluten from toiletries? Are you eating from gluten free menus at restaurants or trusting stuff is gluten free? Since you also...

ARCHIVED Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carragenan
ravenwoodglass replied to jstwnttbhealthy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I looked at the list and did not find Xanthan gum on it. Are you new to the diet? If you are have you changed to a new toaster and are you avoiding sharing condiments and stuff like nut butters, jellys etc with gluten eaters. The reaction you are describing would be the same as I would get with gluten cross contamination. May not be the case for you but thought... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test, Still Might Have Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to xoxobriannamarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Meat, fish, chicken, beans, rice, potatos, fruit and veggies are all gluten free in their natural stare. You want to avoid anything that has wheat, rye, barley or oats to avoid gluten. If you live in an area that has a Wegmans they label all their gluten free food with a circle G. Kraft and Unilever brands... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, But Now Have Tingling In Feet
ravenwoodglass replied to xxkristin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you eliminated iodine from your supplements and foods? If you have DH that is important to do until the lesions have been gone for a while. Since you have DH make sure to eliminate gluten from toiletries as well. Since celiac can effect the nervous system do try some sublingual B12 to help the nerves heal. -

Personally I would replace them just to be on the safe side. -
ARCHIVED Men Can Be So Childish
ravenwoodglass replied to txplowgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
With the past record of this guys behavior you may want to get a court ordered stay away order. Do not respond to stuff like this, while calling the women this happened with was a natural thing to do it may not have been wise. This guy may not be just childish he could end up being dangerous. Protect yourself please. -
ARCHIVED Red Skin And Fatigue?
ravenwoodglass replied to MrMatchStick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You need to call your doctor today. It would have been a good idea to have gotten to the ER when that happened. Not everything is celiac. While that could have been a gluten reaction it also could have been something else, like a TIA or a stroke. Do mention this to your doctor and quit cheating on the diet. -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test - Does That Mean I Have The Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to Kimmy1119's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While false negatives are common with testing false positives are not. Do stay on gluten until your done with all the testing you choose to do. Be aware that biopsies can also have a fairly high rate of false negatives so not matter what the results of the biopsy are do get on the diet as soon as the testing is finished. You can start the day they do the... -
ARCHIVED Where To Source gluten-free Flours That Are Not Contaminated With Oats?
ravenwoodglass replied to gfbakingmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use Tom Sawyer for nonsweet baking and Pamela's mix for baked goods. I am a very sensitive celiac and have never had an issue with either. I tried early in the diet getting all these different individual flours to make my own mixes but it turned out to be very pricey. Those two have been the most cost effective and safest that I have found. -

ravenwoodglass replied to Kat70R's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sometimes the relief we get from the diet can make believers out of those who question us. It can be hard when we don't have the support of our family members. One thing you may want to consider is perhaps going with Enterolab testing. While they don't diagnose celiac they can tell us if we are making antibodies to gluten. It isn't uncommon for our symptoms... -
It is not unusual for us not to respond to meds for depression. Some recent research says that if folks don't respond to the meds they should be checked for celiac as celiac can cause depression and anxiety. Are you being very strict with the diet and taking the needed precautions in the home like getting a new dedicated toaster, changeing scratched pans...

ARCHIVED Scared - How Long Does It Take To Feel Okay?
ravenwoodglass replied to katrina500's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In addition to the things that were mentioned here do be sure to check any meds or supplements you are taking with the makers. Supplements with wheat and barley grass are not safe but may still say gluten free on the label so do read all ingredients. Until you are feeling better it would be a good idea not to drink as celiac can impact liver function. In... -
ARCHIVED DQ2/DQ8
ravenwoodglass replied to Lizzylulu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are a diagnosed celiac, she responded very well to the diet and became ill when you reintroduced gluten, she has both DQ2 and DQ8 plus with the endo "Doc told us that the small intestines were worn away in patches" no matter what the doctors tell you IMHO this child needs to be gluten free. False negatives are not uncommon especially in children. You... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Healing Time, Labs, Thanks For Your Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to alissar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your tests returning to normal levels is what is supposed to happen after you go gluten free. You mention that you are still getting GI issues usually after eating out. What is most likely happening is your getting cross contaminated at the restaurants. Are you letting the places you eat at know that you need them to take the proper precautions with your... -
Yes you could be celiac and yes you could have DH. Heartburn is not part of the ageing process something is causing it. A doctor can biopsy the skin next to an active lesion to look for DH. Make sure they are looking for DH and be aware that as with all celiac testing false negatives are possible. After you are done with all celiac related testing then try...

ARCHIVED Lab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Kat70R's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives are possible even with celiac. After you are done with all celiac related testing do give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED Two Kids With Celiac's?
ravenwoodglass replied to WhenDee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We found in my family that everyone is celiac so it is quite possible. We tested both kids 6 months after I was diagnosed and both showed up on blood tests. That prompted my ex to get tested and his results were positive also. I don't think having multiple celiacs in a family is unusual at all but since it is not tested for a lot in the US many are misdiagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Your Experience With Ataxia
ravenwoodglass replied to cmoore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I noticed a great improvement in about 6 months. Mine had progressed to the point where I had no reflexes and needed canes or walls to walk. When given an electromylogram my right leg was basically flat line. At six months I ran up the stairs without thinking and when I realized what I had done I burst into tears. By the time I had been gluten free for 2... -
ARCHIVED Still Having Chronic Upper Gi Distress
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You might want to ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist. They can be very helpful in showing you how to build your body back up and may be able to pinpoint what is causing the issues. -
((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))) Yes it gets better. You may be a bit emotional right now if you are going through withdrawl but that will pass. There are folks here that do travel and eat out so hopefully they will chime in and give you some reassurance. There are international gluten free dining cards available to take with you when...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, But Now Have Tingling In Feet
ravenwoodglass replied to xxkristin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Look for B12 tablets that are sublingual. They dissolve under the tongue or between the cheek and gums and go directly into the bloodstream. You can find Sublingual B12 in most pharmacey or grocery stores. There are a lot of gluten free vitamins out there but do be sure to read the entire label as barley and wheat grass can be in some but they will still... -
ARCHIVED Test Result Interpretation
ravenwoodglass replied to SoUnsure's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If those are the only tests they ran then you need to go back and ask for a full celiac panel. One of the newest and better tests is the DGP that was mentioned and an antigliadin IGA and IGG wouldn't be a bad idea either. False negatives are not uncommon so do try the diet when all your testing is finished. If you are having problems that seem celiac related... -
ARCHIVED Does Dh = Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to anna34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As far as I know DH is tested for with a biopsy of the skin next to active lesions. They need to be looking for it at the lab. Celiac is tested for with blood tests and yes a diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac even if the blood tests are negative. False negative testing for celiac is not uncommon and that also applies to DH. If there is thinking that...
