Does the place bake it's own bread? That would be the only real concern I would have. If she is simply serving the food I would think she should be okay as long as there is not a lot of flour floating in the air. As a server she would be using tongs or gloves if she is directly handling food so it shouldn't IMHO be an issue. Now if she was a cook who has...

ARCHIVED Leg Cramps
ravenwoodglass replied to sherrylynn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I sometimes get some pretty nasty foot cramps. I take a combo of calcium, magnesium and zinc which seems to help. I also use Tiger Balm or something similiar when the cramping strikes. If your doctor doesn't have any answers maybe ask for a referral to a podiatrist as sometimes foot issues like arch problems etc can contribute to cramps. -
Don't be surprised if the 'acid reflux' clears up gluten free. I was told that also and was given a handful of meds to try and told to call and let him know what worked best and he would give me a script. I put the samples in a drawer and although I did need to use Pepto Bismal a few times within a short time gluten free the stomach issues were a thing of...

ARCHIVED Worth Getting Diagnosed?
ravenwoodglass replied to Brrrandy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If the little bumps have a watery fluid in them they are blisters. Do they itch badly? DH usually itches and when the lesions heal they leave a purply scar that can take a long time to fade. -
ARCHIVED 3 Subjects: Organic, Shampoo/cleaners, And Facilities
ravenwoodglass replied to KuKuKaChoo52's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just use either All Free and Clear or Arm and Hammer Free and Clear. With as much as I have to spend on a loaf of bread I don't want to have to pay an arm and a leg for detergent. -

I just use sprite or I use Adirondack sparkling water. That has just water, carbonation and a bit of flavoring with no sugar or artificial sweetners. -
ARCHIVED Questions For Those Of You That Work Night Shift
ravenwoodglass replied to cahill's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I worked a 2am to 10am shift years ago when I bartended at a 24 hour bar. What worked for me was changing my sleep pattern so that I was going to bed at about 3 or 4 pm and getting up at 12midnight or 1am to go to work. I kept that same pattern even on days off. I was single then with no kids so it worked for me. I don't know if I could have done it if I... -
ARCHIVED Confused By Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to JenF.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Mushroom. Consider yourself diagnosed and be glad they caught it early if that is what they did and not just that they biopsied an area that was less damaged because damage can be spotty. You had positive bloods, are improving on the diet and the biopsy confirmed it. Don't worry about the specialists wording just continue on the diet and continue... -
ARCHIVED Told To Reintroduce Gluten Why
ravenwoodglass replied to tom tom 79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chances are that unless you have been getting a lot of gluten accidentily a week back on gluten isn't going to give you a positive blood test. So don't go back to gluten if your test is negative. Go by what your body has been telling you. -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of The Biopsy If You Have + Bloods
ravenwoodglass replied to Meg123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like your body has really given you a definate answer. As far as support goes you can get a lot of it right here. You might also want to check at local health food stores or even strike up a conversation or two in the gluten-free aisle of your local stores to see if you can find other celiacs locally without having to have that formal 'biopsy proven... -

All clear unflavored rums would be safe. I drink Bacardi white. Any wine is going to be safe if it is just wine. Wine COOLERS, like Zima for example, in the US are not safe as they are a malt beverage. I like to mix a red or white wine with a bit of soda and make my own wine coolers. If you drank a whole six pack of Redbridge that was likely a hangover.... -
ARCHIVED Told To Reintroduce Gluten Why
ravenwoodglass replied to tom tom 79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are already diagnosed as far as celiac goes. I would skip the challenge but if you are still having issues the doctor can check for other issues if needed. If you have been getting cross contamination that could cause stomach pain. You could also have another intolerance. For example I thought for a couple years that I was getting CC'd but it turned out... -

With the Himalaya products the problem was the thick and hard bottles that were almost impossible to squeeze with the thickness of the product. I felt like I need to put them on the shower floor and stomp on them. LOL I was constipated for years, and years before I got the constant D that most think of with celiac. IBS is not really a diagnosis it just... -
ARCHIVED I Don't Want My Husband To Go gluten-free But Will I Still Be Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to HS7474's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just as an additional note, some of us will go through withdrawl when we stop eating gluten. It is possible that was the cause of his moodiness. If that is the case then he may also need to be gluten free himself. -
Your GI doctor is flat out uneducated about all the body systems celiac effects. Do go with your neuro's advice and keep in mind that it can take some time for neurological issues to be relieved on the diet. IMHO your neuro symptoms are much more likely to be gluten induced so stick with it for a while. If you have fructose intolerance you may find you are...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results And Fecal Fat Score
ravenwoodglass replied to jennicm01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That high of a fecal fat score means you have severe malabsorption issues. The good news is that will improve as you heal with the diet. Concentrate on eating as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Fresh meats, chicken, veggies, fruits, potatos, rice etc. Yes it does seem overwhelming at first but things will get easier as you heal. You may notice some... -
ARCHIVED Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to SAVANNAH21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have DH you have celiac. Go with the biopsy report and get yourself strictly gluten free. You should be feeling much better soon. Do be sure to delete iodine for a while until your skin lesions have been gone for a bit. -
ARCHIVED I Think I Can Really Rule Out Celiacs.....
ravenwoodglass replied to fozbery's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives are not uncommon on blood tests or biopsies. If you are done with testing then go on a strict trial of the diet and see if it helps your issues. -
ARCHIVED Labs
ravenwoodglass replied to SAVANNAH21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False positives on blood tests are almost unheard of but false negatives are quite common. As stated the positive biopsy trumps the negatives blood. If the situation was reversed, negative biopsy but positive bloods then the bloods would trump the biopsy as false negatives with both blood tests and biopsy are not uncommon. If you have either test positive... -
ARCHIVED My Mom Just Got Diagnosed At 63- Anyone Else With A Later In Life Diagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to SaraKat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed later in life but as you can see from my signature I did have lots of symptoms. Not all celiac symptoms are gut related so if she has arthritis, headaches, fatigue, moodiness etc those could also be symptoms. There are also asymptomatic celiacs. Being asymptomatic doesn't mean that damage isn't being done. Glad she got tested and they... -

No, on the Dove, Suave etc you will see the words wheat or oats, rye and barley are something I have never seen in toiletries. The most common things to look for in toiletries are wheat germ oil, wheat protein or oats. There is another brand that I recently found that actually says gluten free on the bottles and is wonderful called Himalaya. When I run... -
ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning
ravenwoodglass replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My dentist just uses plain unflavored pumice. While not all cleaning products they use contain gluten so some dentists may already use a gluten free variety it is always a good idea to check. -
ARCHIVED Latex Free Band-Aid?
ravenwoodglass replied to Simona19's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That has been a good solution for me in most areas. I keep a package of these little finger size wraps on hand for when I am working with glass or cut my fingers. I also keep rolled gauze on hand for stuff like skinned knees etc and hold the bandage on with that and put the tape just on the rolled gauze. -

Organic- We don't have to eat organic unless we want to. Shampoos and other toiletries- Many of us do use gluten free toiletries. Anything that gets on your hands etc can get into your mouth or contact other mucous membranes and keep the antibodies active. I use Garneir products as they label well, Dove and Suave will also clearly label gluten...
