ARCHIVED Confused About Blood Work
ravenwoodglass replied to alihawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are having a biopsy done do wait until that is done before you go gluten free. Be aware that false negatives are not uncommon with blood or biopsy. So you will need to do the diet even if the biopsy is negative. You don't need to wait for the biopsy results, if you are having one. When you are done with testing for celiac do go strictly gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal Now? Whats Your Expereince?
ravenwoodglass replied to rgarton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. I had C for years before the daily and nightly D set in and as a kid my Mom was told that it was 'normal' for me only to have a BM a couple times a week. I am now as regular as clockwork every morning. -
ARCHIVED Interpreting Celiac Testing Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Pale Phoenix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you were not eating gluten for the month before those tests were done you can not go off the tests as we need to be eating a full gluten diet for testing. Even then false negatives are not uncommon. Since being gluten free for a month was resolving your symptoms you have two choices, you can go back to eating a full gluten diet with at least 3 to 4 slices... -
ARCHIVED Full Recovery? I Want To Exercise
ravenwoodglass replied to hh73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since those levels were drawn 7 months ago it might be a good idea to have them done again and compare them. B12 in particular can show higher in the blood when our bodies are not utilizing it well. When you have the panels done again compare the levels side by side. If anything has gone down or is at the lower range of normal supplementation might help. -
ARCHIVED Full Recovery? I Want To Exercise
ravenwoodglass replied to hh73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many of us need much higher levels than your multi has. A Stress B and C has high levels of the B vitamins and C. Sublingual B12 is B12 in a tablet that dissolves under the tongue bypassing our damaged guts. Some celiacs are not able to absorb and utilize the vitamins from a regular multi and need higher levels than in your general daily pill. The B and... -
ARCHIVED Full Recovery? I Want To Exercise
ravenwoodglass replied to hh73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may need more supplementation than a multi would be giving you. Has your doctor checked your vitamin and mineral levels? It would be a good idea if that hasn't been done yet. A Stress B and C combo may help. Also a sublingual B12 might not be a bad idea. If you are not allergic to bee products you could also try some Royal Jelly. I used it for quite... -
ARCHIVED Symptom(S) That Point To Celiac And Not Just Intol?
ravenwoodglass replied to sreese68's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are some folks who consider celiac and gluten intolerance to basically be the same thing but perhaps with different body systems being more severely effected. The need to be strictly gluten free is the same with each and they both have the same need for other family members to be tested. You seem to be clearly reacting to gluten no matter what label... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take To Feel The Effects Of Being "glutened"?
ravenwoodglass replied to Elfbaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately different people react in different time frames. For some it can be a couple of days for a reaction to set in some react within minutes or hours. In the beginning it can be helpful to keep a food and symptom log to see if there is a pattern. If you tell us what you ate that might be helpful in pinpointing what it could be also. -
ARCHIVED What Am I Reacting To?
ravenwoodglass replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried each item seperately to see if you react to any of them by themselves? Try each item by itself for a week or so daily and perhaps you can figure out what is causing the problem that way. If all are okay by themselves then try making the mix in a different pot and see if you still react. -
ARCHIVED Best Vit D To Take?
ravenwoodglass replied to AmandaD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes and that is also why it is possible to take too much of them. If folks are taking megadoses it is a good idea to have your doctor check your levels periodically to make sure you are not up to a toxic level. -

ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
ravenwoodglass replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you ever tried Buckwheat? It isn't wheat, if fact I don't think it is a grain either but a seed. It has easily digestible protein and is available in Kasha type groats or ground into flour or as a cereal like Cream of Wheat. I use the Pocono brand as it is grown in dedicated fields and processed with dedicated equipment in a plant that only processes... -
ARCHIVED My Youngest Son Is Not Coping At All Now
ravenwoodglass replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Call the GI office and ask them to put you on the cancelation list so if someone else cancels their appointment they can get him in sooner. He has been diagnosed celiac, correct? Because if he hasn't been diagnosed and you need to diagnose then he would need to keep eating gluten until those tests are done. If he has already been diagnosed then being gluten... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative?
ravenwoodglass replied to debbie7730's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately the tests do have a fairly high false negative rate. Celiac is also strongly genetic. Since you have a first degree relative already diagnosed it would be a good idea to go ahead and try the diet after all celiac related testing is completed. -
ARCHIVED Trots After Eating Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to CruiseWriter's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. So sorry you got glutened. Lay's Stax are gluten free so reach for them instead the next time. If you absolutely have to once the D starts, and it may be a day or two before it hits, then Immodium may help. However if you can let your body purge itself of the gluten that is the better way to go. You may be in for a miserable couple... -
ARCHIVED Osteoporosis Recovery
ravenwoodglass replied to Craig E's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is good that she is taking supplements and it would be a good idea to have her doctor check her overall vitamin and mineral levels. Another thing that may help is weight bearing excercise. That doesn't mean she should start lifting weights she may be started out with just walking. At her age she should ask her doctor for a referral to a physical therapist... -
ARCHIVED My Youngest Son Is Not Coping At All Now
ravenwoodglass replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How did the testing turn out? Did you get any good suggestions from his doctors on getting him to eat? Glad to hear he at least ate some jello and some pudding. I hope the doctors are able to guide you to some support with him. -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Go From Here
ravenwoodglass replied to collgwg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am also allergic and intolerant of soy. There is still quite a bit of stuff that we can eat if we have to avoid both. Glutino crackers, Udi and Grainless Baker Bread, Chex, Snyders pretzels and more, just read the labels carefully. You say you were feeling better the three weeks you were gluten free and the introduction of gluten again made you ill. Talk... -
ARCHIVED Any Way To Help Celiacs That Have Been Impacted
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We have many members in many of the disaster areas that seem to be filling our country right now. There isn't a lot that many of us can do but I know that many of us are doing anything we can to help even if it is just thoughts and prayers. I know I am not the only one with tears in their eyes with all the tornados and the flooding. The loss of life, ways... -
ARCHIVED Pain And No Clue What It Is
ravenwoodglass replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to hear it is a bit better now. I do get some muscle pain when glutened but I get lots of other symptoms to go with it. I hope it continues to improve and is totally gone soon but take it easy on yourself until you are pain free. -
I can't answer about the eye issue but my asthma is gone. Before diagnosis I was taking Singulair and had a rescue inhalor. I have only refilled my inhalor once since diagnosis and never have had to refill the Singulair. I also had allergies to just about everything, 98 out of 99 things tested for and most of those resolved. So you may find as time goes by...

ARCHIVED Pain And No Clue What It Is
ravenwoodglass replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Stef if you are in so much pain you can't walk, stand or lie then going to the ER is going to be your best option. They may not be able to do much other than give you pain relief but it sounds like you need that right now. -
ARCHIVED Severe Travel Anxiety!
ravenwoodglass replied to lynnelise's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We were posting at the same time. It sounds like there is no way to get around going. If you are going to take the immodium as a precaution do only take half a dose. You do not want to end up binding yourself up and ending up in severe pain from constipation. If you wash your hands throughly and keep them away from your face that should keep you from getting... -
ARCHIVED Severe Travel Anxiety!
ravenwoodglass replied to lynnelise's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Would it help her if you took her to the airport and picked her up instead of doing the whole trip with her? It sounds like she will have a lot of support once she gets there. If she is going through a lot right now perhaps her doctor could prescribe something for her to take before the flight and with you to drive her that might ease her mind. Other than... -
ARCHIVED My Youngest Son Is Not Coping At All Now
ravenwoodglass replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes years of nontreatment can take a toll on us. It is sometimes even harder to deal with it's results in our children than in ourselves. I hope they are able to figure out what is going on fairly quickly. Do tell them also about the problems you have had getting him to eat. Sending good thoughts your way.
