  1. She has to stop cheating on the diet first of all. Even the smallest amount will keep the antibodies active. If she is on a meal plan at school do check to make sure they are able to safely feed her. If not the school may let her opt out of the meal plan and may even be able to accomodate her with living quarters where she can have her own kitchenette. My...
  2. (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))) Sleeping with a snoring bed hog is the pits. I used to go to the spare bedroom when things got too loud or cold. If you don't have a spare bed room maybe a quick cheap blow up mattress in the babies room might help on nights like this. If he doesn't believe he snores and feels rejected if you sleep the rest...
  3. I take a couple tangerines up with me to bed and snack on them when I am reading. I also sometimes will do Snyder Pretzels with some Kraft jarred Chedder Cheese to dip them in.
  4. As someone who had an undiagnosed celiac who joined the military I have to second this. Do not let him hide the ADHD either and it combined with his troubles in school may disqualify him anyway. If he is not college material there are plenty of other good paying occupations. Many high schools have vocational programs for everything from mechanics to plumbing...
  5. Welcome to the board. You have a great doctor to put your health before his need for a new boat. Do be strict with the diet and be very careful of CC as those of us with neuro impact do need to be very strict. You can learn a lot by reading through the posts here and if you have any other questions do feel free to ask. I only expected my gut symptoms to go...
  6. What are you drinking? I don't do any of the premixed drinks on the rare occasions I do drink. I also discovered early on that if I want a vodka and lemonade it needs to be a potato vodka. I more commonly drink a clear rum and Pepsi, wine or on rare cases a gluten-free beer. With those I have no issues but I never drink more than one. I do not tolerate distilled...
  7. I use the NOW brand. Yea K isn't a vitamin they usually check as a deficiency is considered rare. It wasn't until I noticed the improvement when I take it that I did a little bit of research and found that it is another vitamin that with celiac may be deficient. You could do a search using vitamin K and celiac and print out something from someplace like...
  8. All we can tell you is how to deal with the celiac and of course you are welcome to whatever knowledge we have. Some of us may have some knowledge about autism and the problems that arise with it. I am one of them. That is why I am begging you to get outside assistance. I am sure you love your son and want him to be as healthy and happy as he can. It is apparent...
  9. So all he ever ate was pizza, burritos, and hot pockets? No fruit, no veggies, no hot dogs, no lunch meat, no cheese, no chicken, no ground beef, no cereals, no puddings, nothing? Just about anything can be cut up very small to make it easier to chew. You say one of the reasons why his diet was so limited was his teeth problems but those items he did eat...
  10. You have gotten some great advice from previous posters. If he is getting to the point where you can not handle him at all it is time to get his caseworker involved. You are in poor health yourself and this food fighting with him is not helping you. I would also suggest that you prepare his meals first so that you can eat them if he refuses or wrap them up...
  11. Castor oil would be gluten safe as that is derived from the castor bean. The tocopheryl acetate and tocopherol (Vitamin E)would be the risk as they can be derived from wheat, soy or other oils. I would ask what those were derived from. That said some will be able to tolerate them because they are highly processed but I do have to avoid those ingredients myself...
  12. Welcome to the board. Yes your symptoms could be celiac and yes celiac can impact the thyroid and pretty much any other organ. You first step is to go to your doctos and tell him you want to be tested for celiac. Do not stop eating gluten until you are done with testing. Do be aware that celiac testing has high false negative rates but even a low positive...
  13. Many of us share those same concerns, myself included.
  14. If your new to gluten free you may want to do the diet for a bit first and see if that gets rid of symptoms. Cleanses can be harsh and depending on the kind risky for someone with an already compromised GI system. Make sure you read the whole label and do some research before deciding if they are right for you if you do over the counter ones.
  15. Thanks that is good advice. Since the bruising and red spots are pretty much gone since I started the vitamin K I think that was the issue. If they should start up again I will get blood work done.
  16. Since celiac can cause an inflammatory response in the body having high results on those tests wouldn't IMHO be unusual. Your blood work should look better once you have been strictly gluten free for a bit.
  17. Make sure you check all her supplements and other meds with the makers for gluten. Do read all ingredients on supplements to make sure they don't have barley or wheat grass as they can still say gluten free but those are not safe for us. Have you deglutened your home? She needs her own toaster for gluten free breads, her own condiments, butter, nut butters...
  18. I very rarely go out to eat and when I do I only go to someplace that has a gluten free menu. If you don't know what places near you have a gluten-free menu then go online put in your city and the words gluten free restaurant and you will find your options. We can never assume from the menu that something is gluten free. Some places even mix pancake batter...
  19. It doesn't matter whether he is celiac or 'gluten sensitive' the need to be strictly gluten free is the same. The choice on whether to have him have a biopsy or to take the drugs or to take a wait and see if he improves on the gluten free diet is yours to make. You do have the option of having him gluten free and seeing if the blood work levels go down but...
  20. If they only tested you for DQ2 and DQ8 then they only tested for two of the up to 27 celiac associated genes. Yes you could still have celiac. False negatives on both blood and biopsy are fairly common but false positives are virtually unheard of. If you have had a positive blood test and you have reacted badly to the gluten challenge you need to be gluten...
  21. It is not too early to have a bad reaction to a glutening. Does the restaurant you ate at have a gluten free menu? If not then they may not be taking the proper precautions to prevent it at the restaurant. In the beginning it is best to go with whole unprocessed foods that you prepare yourself in a kitchen that has been purged of gluten risks. You need a...
  22. Celiac is not an allergy so it won't show up with allergy tests. Your regular doctor can do a celiac panel. However they have a false negative rate of 20 to 30 percent. False positives are virtually unheard of so it the panel is positive you need to be gluten free. If celiac is suspected stay on gluten until the testing is finished and then after all testing...
  23. Did you cut out dairy? If not try cutting that out. For me soy will also cause 'bowling ball belly' but that may not be the case for you. Sometimes we do have other problem foods and IMHO the best way to figure out what they are is to eliminate them for a bit and see if problems resolve.
  24. My best guess would be that you are intolerant to something that is in them. Perhaps you could try different mixes while noting what is in each of them and getting ones with different ingredients to try and pinpoint what you are reacting to in them. Have you noticed this with ready made gluten-free products? If not are you using the same baking utensils...
  25. For quite a while now I have wondered why I have bright red spots on my torso, and in the last few months I have had a red bruise like rash on my neck and on my face. If one of my kitties scratched me I would have bleeding under the skin around even the tiniest scratch and the smallest bump or blood draw would leave a nasty bruise. Years ago my doctors told...
