  1. I take Nature Made Cod Liver Oil. It is gluten free and simply has: Cod Liver Oil, Gelatin, Glycerin and Water. I am sensitive to soy and it was the only fish oil I could find without it.
  2. Yes take them every day until you have been gluten free long enough to heal and to be able to absorb and utilize the B12 from regular supplements and your food. That may take awhile even after you stop eating gluten.
  3. You are only entitled to disability from your service if you had a service associated disability. My DS, for example, was an undiagnosed celiac when he was in the Army and recieved a medical discharge. He was told he could get 10% disability because jumping out of planes blew out his knees but he never applied because there were other things he could do that...
  4. Sorry you had a hypo incident today although 63 is not dangerously low it may have been low enough to make you feel a bit off. Have you spoken with a dietian to help get a handle on the ups and lows? You should be able to get a referral from your doctor. I do know that with hypoglycemia you need to eat both carbs and protein frequently to keep things in balance...
  5. Generics do usually need to be checked at each refill as companies can change binders at will Some companies do always use gluten free binders though. I get a Sandoz generic and the company has assured me that they will not use gluten ingredients in any of their products.
  6. Have they tested you for celiac? I would ask them to do so.
  7. It is possible you are still getting trace amounts. What are you typically eating? Have you eliminated gluten from topical items? Have you checked all meds and supplements? And the most important IMHO is how are you feeling? I don't know how high your readings were to begin with but if they were very high and have been steadily coming down, you are very...
  8. People can be full blown celiac and close to death and still have a false negative on testing. It doesn't matter what label you put on it you still have to be just as strict with the diet and both can do just as much damage to your organs.
  9. Welcome to the board. It might be a good idea to ask for a celiac panel before trying the diet. An endoscopic biopsy can also be done to check for celiac. However both tests have fairly high false negative rates so a trial of the diet needs to be done no matter what the results. We do have to be very strict with the diet and some folks have a hard time with...
  10. I have to agree their products are great and the samples make it inexpensive to try and see if you like it. Well worth waiting a few days for it to come in the mail.
  11. It sounds like a wonderful place and I am so happy for you that you had a nice time dispite the back issues. Got a suitcase big enough for me to hide in on your next trip?
  12. Glad things seem to be slowly improving for you. I guess I was lucky in that my nerve damage resulted in less pain rather than more. Even the EMG's they did didn't bother me at all. Unfortuanately it also meant I did considerable damage to my knees without knowing it until they couldn't hold my weight anymore. I did have paresthesias and those did resolve...
  13. Those sores in the corners of the mouth are often seen when we are low in the B vitamins. My DS had those a lot. A high potency B and C vitamin like what they call a Stress vitamin may help. After you are done with testing do give the diet a try even if the results are negative.
  14. Yes you should get rid of it in everything including your antidepressant. You may find after you have been gluten-free for a bit that you don't need the antidepressant anyway as depression and anxiety can be part of the celiac or intolerance symptoms. Do not suddenly stop taking the med though as some psychotropic drugs can have serious withdrawl problems...
  15. It is good you are continueing on gluten until the biopsy is done. Do be aware that there can be pretty high rates of false negatives with biopsy so the day the biopsy is done go ahead and get on the diet strictly. Your body may give you the answer before the biopsy results even come in.
  16. Karl you can't fixate on the past and the what may have beens. You need to focus on going forward. There is no reason why if you follow the diet you can not return to a reasonably healthy condition and live to 60 or well beyond. There are quite of few of us who were as sick or even more sick than you and have returned to health. Eat whole fresh foods, exercise...
  17. They are asking about your son because he is their patient. Even when I was still extemely and obviously very ill my children's doctors never asked me how I was doing. You are diagnosed already and the responsibility to ask how you are doing falls on your doctors not your son's doctors. They are asking about your son's mother because they know that they should...
  18. You may need to check each product you use with the company. Or you can post your favorites here and folks might know if the item is safe. Most department and drugstore brands will have some items that are safe and some that aren't so it isn't ususaly possible to give a 'blank' company is gluten-free. Some companies will have a list of safe items on their...
  19. Although they appear to be good about labeling their products they do have this disclaimer on the website- The HV Food Products Company is pleased to provide consumers with the most accurate information possible regarding our food products which are formulated to meet our strict manufacturing and safety standards. We know some consumers have highly sensitive...
  20. It sounds like you also have DH so do make sure you are not consuming iodine in your supplements or iodized salt on your foods. Becoming more sensitive is normal and it is your body trying to protect you. Make sure you have changed out all the stuff you need to change out in your kitchen, check all your toiletries for gluten ingredients and go with as much...
  21. I just wanted to add that if you are working on getting tested for celiac do NOT go gluten free yet. False negatives are fairly common even on a full gluten diet and if you cut gluten out before testing your tests will likely be negative even if you are celiac. Once your done with testing then do give the diet a try no matter what the test results.
  22. The stomach and intestines are not the only organs affected by celiac. Your 'cheating a little' could be impacting your brain and nervous system. Please go with something like Chex or another gluten free cereal and get strict with the diet. You don't want that weakness to progress to the point where you start to have trouble with walking or other issues that...
  23. I have been trying to find info on LEAP testing and all that I could find was by practioners that do the testing and an article in Quackwatch. There was nothing I could find on the NIH website or that came up with a .org address so do make sure you do research on this before you spend out of pocket for the testing. As I said I don't know anything about...
  24. You have had postive celiac tests but that doesn't mean you are going to show up in allergy testing as celiac is not an allergy. Celiac is an autoimmune disease not an allergy. It is usually a GI doctor that diagnoses celiac which is why I mentioned the biopsy which is done with an endoscopic exam of the small intestine. However that biopsy can be a false...
  25. What damages our bodies is the antibodies we form from gluten. Early on in recovery many find they are more sensitive to trace amounts than after they have been healed for many years. It takes a while for the antibodies to leave the system, in the skin for example it can take up to two years. Trace amounts can make the antibodies flare into action and cause...
