  1. Yes taking B12 will skew the results and so will taking folate as it can give a reading that is higher than it really is for the B12. I don't think the eggs will. Just tell your doctor what supplements you are taking before the doctor tests your levels. Not all vit E is wheat derived some is soy derived and there are other sources. The best way to find...
  2. When I went downtown Monday I heard a kitten crying in a local downtown parking lot. She was under a bush scared and cold. I tracked her footprints in the snow, or tried to, but the only place I saw them was in the parking lot. I put an ad in the paper that got no response so I guess she was a drop off. I had kept her in my bedroom for the last 3 days or...
  3. It was a doctor guided elimination diet that finally lead to my diagnosis. I was told to drop all beverages except water and use no spices other than salt, no coffee or tea, butter or margarine. My doctor started me out with 5 foods that I didn't usually eat. For me that was sweet potatoes, rice, peas, turkey and pineapple (I ended up dropping the pineapple...
  4. I use mostly the Garneir Nutritioneste line for hair and skin care. I have used Giovanni hair care in the past but had to stop when I realized I had issues with soy. I haven't checked their skin care. I tried California Baby, ordered some shampoo and conditioner on line but I didn't care for them. Not a gluten issue just not the stuff for me. Recently my...
  5. Have you looked at Applegate Farms? As the other poster mentioned ask at the meat dept. At the two local stores I shop at the store made sausages I have checked are free of both. One is Wegmans and the other is a Big M if you have those near you.
  6. Are you allowed to have a fridge and microwave in your room? If you are that might be the best way to go. I doubt this is in your head and you are likely getting CC'd at the dining hall or some other way. Have you checked all supplements and meds you take? Are you avoiding dairy? We often need to until we have healed. I hope this resolves soon for you as...
  7. If you think you can stay strict and compliant with the diet without a diagnosis then start the diet. If you need a diagnosis wait. Do know that if you go gluten free before testing and then decide you want a diagnosis you will need to go back on gluten for 3 months or so to have any chance of a accurate result. Even then there is a chance of a false negative...
  8. Talk to your tax person. You can only deduct the difference between gluten free and regular food and can only deduct medical expenses over 7.5% of your income. Your tax person can tell you if you qualify to take the deduction and whether travel expenses can be deducted also but you would need to have kept all your reciepts. It also might red flag you for...
  9. She should do as Takla suggested and I would report this to the insurance company as he should not be refusing to go over her test results with her.
  10. Yea I agree. Some doctors are less than worthless when it comes to celiac. These doctors make me so darn angry!!!!!
  11. You are right celiac is diagnosed through the endoscopy. Since the OP mentioned the small intestine it is likely that the endo was what was done. Some doctors will also do both scopes at once if celiac is suspected.
  12. It isn't uncommon for women to have celiac triggered by pregnacy and birth. If your celiac and you do the diet strictly then yes even symptoms you have had for years could resolve. Some of my issues had been present since I was a child and I was finally diagnosed in my late 40's. I am now healthier than I can ever remember being.
  13. I used to think the bed was being rocked. I found it pretty scarey but it hasn't happened in years now. I have no idea what caused it but suspect it was one of the neuro effects. Are you done with testing, both blood and if you have chosen biopsy? If you are then go ahead and start the diet. You don't need to wait on the results as there is a high rate...
  14. IMHO your doctor gave you some good advice. False negatives are not uncommon and you are lucky that you have a doctor who is taking into consideration the your findings could be celiac in the early stages. Much better than the doctors who tell us to stay on gluten and come back in a year to see if we have damaged ourselves enough for them to diagnose. Do...
  15. Have you had your blood levels checked to make sure you are really deficient? If not you should before supplementing. Too much copper is toxic and can damage your organs. Here is a link to what the Merck manual has to say about copper. Open Original Shared Link
  16. Yes celiac is neither recessive or dominant and does not require two copies of the gene to be present like some genetic disorders. You can be celiac with only one copy from one parent. Yea I am rather a fanatic about folks not always needing the recognized genes. I guess I will never 'get over' my DD's diagnosis being recinded. I am also sooo very thankful...
  17. Being prepared is always the best way to avoid worry. Frankly I worry more about my pets than myself. I live in an area where big snow storms are not uncommon and in the fall I stock up on bottled water (I've had pipes freeze) and I always make sure there is food enough for myself and my pets for at least a week. I keep plenty of peanut butter and canned...
  18. Are you supplementing with sublingual B12? If you not you may want to and see if it helps. It can take what seems like a really long time for the joint and neuro symptoms to resolve. For me it also took avoiding soy for the joint pain to go away completely. You may want to try eliminating soy and see if that helps. Do be sure to avoid any risk of CC and check...
  19. Thanks. I wonder if that risk goes down once we go through menapause. I'll check it out.
  20. Are you sensitive to soy? I can't use most lip products because of my soy sensitives, both allergy and intolerance. My lips will become raw and peel like they have been burned with a product with either soy or wheat derived vitamin E. My lips do better using nothing. Also have you been taking a good supplement with high levels of B vitamins? If the red...
  21. Of course your tests were negative, you have been gluten free for months and healed. Listen to your body not that doctor. The same thing happened to someone in my family. Instead of telling you that you should go back to a gluten diet the doctor should have congratulated you for how well you are doing on it.
  22. In the US Kraft does not put out a gluten free list. The link posted is for Australia. However Kraft is a pretty good company for labeling and will put any gluten containing ingredients clearly on the label.
  23. Your B12 is pretty low. Are you taking a sublingual B12 to bring it up? If not you should consider it. Celiac disease can give have a neuro component. I had severe memory issues as well as problems with movement, idiopathic epilepsy (for which I was given some really nasty antiseizure meds) and aphasia. All have resolved with being strict with the diet...
  24. Do you by any chance have a link to that article or can you tell us where you might have read it? I know celiac can mess with our hormone levels and would be very interested in learning more about this and whether this applies to our own naturally produced hormones or whether it is more hormone therapy or BC pill related.
  25. Pepsi recently came out with the throwback with sugar instead of HFCS. I thought it was great and it tasted so good after not having it for so long. They discontinued it a while ago. In the last couple of weeks I have found it again in a couple of stores. It is in a white bottle like they use for the diet Pepsi. I just got my second bottle of it and I could...
