ARCHIVED Need To Find A 'dr. House'
ravenwoodglass replied to lauriel234's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Is she gluten free? How much depakote is she taking? Are they testing her levels and doing other blood work at least once a month? When I was on it I was checked every 2 weeks. Have you checked with each refill that the depakote is gluten-free? With liver issues you need to think about a talk with her doctor to see if there is another med she can go on... -
ARCHIVED Just Found Out - Little Bro Has A Brain Tumor
ravenwoodglass replied to ShayFL's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Shay, Hopefully the doctors feelings are right and this will be benign. I will keep you guys in my prayers. -
ARCHIVED How Much Dh Needed For A Biopsy To Confirm?
ravenwoodglass replied to desccc's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Actually DH can come and go. It depends on how many antibodies have built up under the skin. It does seem it is rather obvious that these are associated with gluten injestion though. I agree with you that those do not sound at all like hives. The fact that they tiny and they are blisters is a good indication in my opinion that these are DH, however you... -
I had DH from about age 7 and it would cover my arms and legs and I also was told it was poison ivy. My Mom could never figure out how I would get into it in the wintertime and one doctor explained I had poison ivy 'in my blood'. A lot of bunk of course. He prescribed these incredibly painful shots with a serum that the nurses would have to heat in hot...

ARCHIVED Maybe Not Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to minton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I noticed you have DH is that still active? If it is then you may not be as safe sharing a kitchen with gluten eaters as you think you are. You say you are sure you are not being glutened but if the DH is active you are. -
ARCHIVED Do You Have To Eat Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to sugarsue's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
She will need to have active lesions for the doctor to be able to do the biopsy. I would not take her off of gluten until after testing is done. -
When I was actively consuming gluten my scars started out purply red and stay that color slowly fading to slightly pink after a very long time. I have been gluten-free now for a long time and while the lesions when I do get them are tiny instead of big and nasty and spreading they do still have the same scar pattern.

ARCHIVED How Much Dh Needed For A Biopsy To Confirm?
ravenwoodglass replied to desccc's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I would go ahead and get her in there. Make sure you watch while he biopsies to make sure he is not biopsing the lesions themselves. -
I am sorry you are feeling so iccky. There are a couple of things to look into. Has anything changed in the last week or so? Have you started using a new shampoo or lotion? Have you done any home improvement projects? Started any crafts? Did you get a refill on a script that has been gluten free and the pharmacist didn't check it? This is a bigger...

ARCHIVED Nerve Pain - Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to CTabb44's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A couple of days is not likely to produce any results. You really need to give it a month or two. It can take a while for the nerves to heal and one thing that may help speed the healing along is to get some sublingual B12. You really should get a blood test at the least before you go on the diet but even if the test is negative that doesn't mean that... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Get A Test Done But Im Worried ...
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tests aren't perfect and false negatives are seen but the adherence to the diet and the resolution of symptoms is also a diagnostic tool. After you have all the testing done that you choose to do a dietary trial of the gluten free diet can sometimes provide the answer. -
ARCHIVED I've Figured Out What's Wrong...
ravenwoodglass replied to QueenOfPain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor leaves a great deal to be desired or he/she needs a new vacation home. You can't be a little bit celiac and the idea that since you have had issues for 19 years another year on gluten won't hurt is so sad. Your body is having an autoimmune response to gluten, the reason why you showed up positive on blood work and then negative after being gluten... -
ARCHIVED Questions For Old Timers
ravenwoodglass replied to MHD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have gotten some great responses about all I have to add is read my signature. Then go through the board and read as many posts and signatures as you have time to. That will give you a great idea of what ignoring your diagnosis will do to you. -
ARCHIVED Flavored Teas
ravenwoodglass replied to SandyStPeteFL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would look for a phone number or website on the box and get ahold of the company directly and ask. It is not unusual for flavored teas to have gluten, I looked through a whole bunch of Celestial Seasonings special Xmas teas today before I found one that was safe. -
ARCHIVED Blood Work
ravenwoodglass replied to cjstearns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This was very well put and the last sentence really deserves stress. It is going to be a lot of changes but it will be worth it in the long run. You should get all family members tested, even if they seem not to have symptoms. Celiac is strongly genetic and often times there is more than one family member affected but often the symptoms may be different... -
ARCHIVED Just Curious! But What Do You Eat For Breakfast?
ravenwoodglass replied to TiredofTums's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will have Rice Chex or Bakery on Main granola, eggs and toast (I like Kinnikinick Italian bread), Van's waffles, cream of buckwheat with sugar and cinnamon, leftover pizza from the night before, muffins (I make a bunch with Pamelas mix and then freeze them) , just a few of my favorites. -
ARCHIVED Positive Ttg - Can It Be An Indication Of Something Else?
ravenwoodglass replied to sazzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are most likely looking at celiac. With a postive blood test the choice to biopsy is yours. If you are going to biopsy you do have to continue with a full gluten diet until that is done. There is also a risk of a false negative with the biopsy. You have 22 ft of small intestine and damage can be patchy and if the right area is not biopsied the result... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Tests, Negative Colo/endo Scopy But Symptoms!
ravenwoodglass replied to pariseliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been gluten free that will cause a false negative. You would need to be back on a full gluten diet for at least 3 months for the tests to have any chance of coming back postive. You don't need a doctors permission to eat gluten free and being on the diet will not effect testing for other disorders. You have found a great place for info and... -
ARCHIVED Addison's - Banana Sickness Question?
ravenwoodglass replied to raisin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you allergic to latex? I could be wrong but I think that bananas are in the same family. The speed with which your reaction hits and leaves and the nature of it sounds like an allergic reaction. -
ARCHIVED College Next Fall
ravenwoodglass replied to missnbagels's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My DD was diagnosed in her senior year of HS and we worried about it also but it turned out that the college was great at dealing with it. We let them know as soon as she was accepted and what her college did was to put her into senior housing her first year (the college required freshman to live on campus). She had a private room with it's own kitchen... -
ARCHIVED Dh Or Molluscum On 7 Yr Old
ravenwoodglass replied to sugarsue's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You need to see a dermatologist. If your insurance permits you to make an appointment without a referral then I would do so. Molluscum does not itch nor will it leave the purple scar that you mention. One of the most distinctive features of DH is the color of the scar that is left and you have described it quite well. The derm will biopsy the area next... -
ARCHIVED Itchy Red Rash All Over Torso
ravenwoodglass replied to laurajane's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Can you get an appointment with a derm? The derm can biopsy the area adjacent to the rash to check for the antibodies. If the antibodies are found that that is a conclusive diagnosis of celiac. If you do have celiac you should not be eating small amounts of gluten, even the little bit that is in a soup. The fact that this rash shows up 3 days after consumption... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
ravenwoodglass replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have a real problem with that statement. It is well known that for some people with celiac after they have healed on the gluten free diet they will 'seem' to tolerate gluten again. That is the reason for doctors thinking that celiac was a childhood disorder that could be outgrown. We now know that is not the case. It can take a while for the gut symptoms... -
ARCHIVED A Little Help Please....
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wouldn't eat those either and I do not doubt that you may have gotten sick from them. There are some of us who tolerate some stuff and some of us who don't. I am a no gluten in any form person myself, I do not do gluten that is in distilled vinagers, alcohols or in any other form. Not because I don't want to but because I react. You are very early... -
You could look into Dietian or Nutritionist. You might want to check with your local community or state college they can show you alot of different possibilities.
