  1. "With a general this is more cut and dry... patient is concious .. small wait patient is unconcious and the patient has the right to say NO right up to going under. In the case of amnesiacs the patient may experience a bad trip and say NO.... they may wish to end the procedure and they are still concious. " Good point. Once doctors start they don't...
  2. I also have concerns about some of what you are saying. I insisted that I be completely out for my procedures. As someone who has repressed memories from a combo of childhood experience and early onset celiac I KNOW some of those memories need to stay right where they are. Those memories are a part of my subconsious mind but as was explained to me, bringing...
  3. I agree completley with this. Before diagnosis I had allergies so bad that my inhalor was my best freind. I was able to wear a couple of VERY expensive perfumes with no problems but even a trip into a wonderful shop with lots of soaps would kill me, figuratively of course, within a few minutes. I, of course, did not believe my doctor when he said so much...
  4. I am sure everything will go well. I know you will keep us posted. Don't be surprized if they can't tell you much right away as sometimes they have to take some time to look at any biopsies they may want to do. I should note when I say biopsies I am not talking about cancer here but things like microscopic colitis. Good luck, it will be over soon.
  5. Actually celiac disease is on the rise in Japan as they are starting to eat a more 'westernized' diet. I have posted 2 links to dining cards. The second link has cards that you can actually print out. I googled Japan and gluten free and quite a bit came up but these should get you started. Have fun in Japan I have heard it is a wonderful place to visit...
  6. Thank for posting this info. Not absorbing iron would not make your stool black though it could cause anemia. In her case the anemia was caused previouosly by bleeding not by nonabsorbtion.
  7. Hi Toni, Do you eat foods in the nightshade family, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant? What finally got rid of every bit of joint pain for me was eliminating these guys. I can have them once in a while now but not every day. Many of us seem to be sensitive to them and it seems to hit the joints. If I have mentioned this before please forgive the...
  8. With this history you need to make an appointment with your doctor. Internal bleeding would cause the low hemoglobin. You have clearly had some stomach or intestinal bleeding before and should check this out if you can not identify and innocent reason very soon.
  9. Gee you sound like me prediagnosis. It took a long time gluten-free but I am now pain (though not deformity) free and my nails are hardly ridged at all. I also had to cut out nightshades for a while and still only eat them rarely but I did get rid of the last of my joint pain when I eliminated them.
  10. Has he read this paper that's in this post? If not I would show it to him. Open Original Shared Link I hope you can find a way to bring this up.
  11. You need to make an appointment and talk to the dean. He or she may be able to do something. I would stress the fact that you want to be a good student and you don't want to miss classes becasue you are sick. Be prepared to show them on paper what can happen and that eating at their facility just is not safe for you. I would not stress that you were not...
  12. When are doctors going to understand they need to scope both ends. This happened to me also and relying on the results of the colonoscopy and the IBS diagnosis delayed my celiac diagnosis by over 5 of the most miserable years imaginable and resulted in some permanent damage. I hope she paid attention to you and doesn't just get tested but trys the diet...
  13. Your regular Doc can order the tests for you. If you call the office they may even just give you a lab slip. It is a good idea to get your vitamin and mineral levels, at a minimum B12, iron, potassium, and folate. If you were diagnosed with a positive blood test it is also a good idea to run the panel again to make sure you are as gluten-free as you think...
  14. I'm known as a gluten nag on some other boards and to freinds and family. My family eventually listened (it was hard to deny the evidence of my recovery) but it's nice to know that sometimes the folks I don't know listen also. What's hard is when you are very sure someone needs to be gluten-free but they just say something like "well I don't eat much...
  15. Lister call the office and ask to be sure. It is most likely 6 pm but make sure you don't want to go through all the prep and start fasting at 9 and then find out they can't do the test cause you needed to start the fast 4.
  16. I find the similarity interesting also. Years ago when I had my first child and the celiac started to hit me heavily Lyme was one of the things I was tested for. And then again a few times in my last 5 years of illness so some doctors aren't totally clueless. I am very thankful that I did not turn out to have Lyme as I know it can be tough to get rid of...
  17. I hope everything goes well for you today. We're 'rootin' for ya.
  18. I was talking to a woman today about celiac, she heard me talking to someone else about my recovery and said 'Gee that sounds like me' After we had been talking for a few minutes she mentioned her son had recently been diagnosed and had been on the diet about a month and called him over. Imagine my surprize when I recognized this young man as the one who...
  19. I had a lot of mystery glutenings off and on that I couldn't figure out. I switched my animals to totally grain free food (IVO) and have not had a glutening since that I couldn't figure out. You may want to see if you can find a grain free food and see if that makes a difference.
  20. That one is not safe if my memory serves me. Woodchuck has a couple that are safe but check their website I seem to remember that one wasn't. Most ciders are safe but not all.

    ARCHIVED Ragu?

Oh the shame of it, there is so much more to pasta sauce than what we usually think of here in the US.
  22. I always call the manufacturor for everything. It makes me feel a bit obsessive but it has been months now since I have had a glutening so for me it is worth it. It is actually the inactive ingredients that we need to worry about if possible try to find OTC stuff that is marked gluten-free. I hope you feel better soon.
  23. She just did her challenge. Sometimes the body and it's reaction speak much louder than if we say anything. I am glad you have each other for support.
  24. Thanks for posting this. The lipid profile describes my experience when retested at 3.5 years gluten-free. The sonogram sounds like it could be a great noninvasive test method to include when they suspect celiac. I hope they pay attention to it on this continent. We seem to be so far behind many other countries in our understanding of celiac and...
