  1. Hi I am a newly diagnosed diabetic also who was diagnosed with celiac about 4 years ago. I have a much harder time getting used to the diabetes than I did the celiac. I am afraid I am not too much help but one thing you may want to look into is Hormel Deli Meats in the Brown Wrapper, they are gluten free and marked as so and also have no preservatives or...
  2. Would you know for sure they checked? What has the doctor said about your new symptoms?
  3. Then that is what you should do. Is there anyone that could take your son and give you a break for today? You are recovering from a glutening and it takes a while. At least the doctor in the ER recognized it was celiac related and didn't just send you home with a shrug of his shoulders and tell you to get more fiber. I also don't undrstand the need of...
  4. This post was so important I wanted to make sure you saw it twice. Very well put and wise words.
  5. Only another celiac could understand the need to celebrate the shape form and color of a normal poop! I must have stood over the toilet peering in for 10 minutes the first time it happened. Congrats and although you may be tempted a photo poster in your living room might get a few strange looks.
  6. Gee I thought I had problems with my neighbors! Get yourself a camera, use it to take pictures of the dog run, the dogs, and get a couple shots of her putting her trash cans in your front yard. Then make 3 sets of copies. Send one to Animal Control, take the others to the police station and the third set goes to the Health dept. Then gather up the reciepts...
  7. It was thought by my doctors that many of my depression issues were related to my hormones because I would become so much worse during my cycle. I also became progressively more ill with each pregnacy. I finally had my tubes tied because we thought if I got pregnant again it would send me even more over the edge. Celiac soon after that caused a very early...
  8. I think the tests are a good idea but I would ask if he could do an endoscopy at the same time he does the colonoscopy. That way he can do some biopsies for celiac while he is in there. As far as what they may find there is no telling. I was extrememly ill when they did my colo and all they found was divericuli, lots of them. They couldn't understand...
  9. I am glad to hear that if your Mom has problems she is going to try the diet anyway. I am the one who was always negative with blood tests in my family and it resulted in many misdiagnoses and years of pain. Everyone else showed up on the blood tests, even one family member who 'thought' he had no gluten issues, until they were gone. It is often helpful...
  10. I am glad it turned out to be not so bad. I hope it turns out to be only a few easy to avoid things. I am also allergic to nickel and found it to be a great excuse to buy only gold or sterling jewelry
  11. If you have been recently glutened maybe, but if your not used to being in the car a lot that could do it also. If you have to be riding a lot try to make frequent stops to get out of the car and stretch out a bit. If it continues or you notice other problems that are starting up with it you may want to get it checked out by your doctor. A mild gluten...
  12. Lynne, I understand your need to 'soft-pedal' the celiac thing, but if they counter with the smoking analogy you should counter with "but smoking isn't genetic!!!!!" IMHO the celiac genes are passed on much, much more frequently than Doctors commonly think. I insisted on both of my children being tested right away, got pooh-poohed by both the doctors and...
  13. Thank you so much for posting this. There are times when I get very concerned about the negative aspects of my DS's aspergers that I forget about all the positives that it has given him and to lesser extent myself. I know it sounds funny but in many ways I am glad that he is an aspie, he is so responsible and has always respected the rules we have to try...
  14. If it is just red wine vinegar it should be gluten free as the only thing it should dervived from would be grapes. I do not tolerate grain vinagers of any kind except corn so I always call and ask what the vinegar was derived from. Have you considered that you may just not be able tolerate any vinegar for some reason? Something you may want to consider...
  15. I noticed a difference in the amount of D I had right away, perhaps because I had D every day multiple times for 15 years before I did the elimination diet. I was very, very sick for a very long time so even a bit of improvement was cause for great joy. That said it took almost a year for all of the gluten related issues resolve for the most part, I attribute...
  16. Lynne, Just wanted you to know that you both are still in my thoughts and prayers. The liver enzyme issue has me concerned and I hope they figure everything out. I do hope she is going to consider the possibility of her having a gluten issue and addresses it. Undiagnosed celiac can do some awful things to our organs long before the typical GI issues appear...
  17. Gosh, I'd rather have the little shots that sounds miserable. You have my sympathy. I hope it gives you some answers.
  18. Hi Laurie I'm not Ursula but I was diagnosed through an elimination diet after years of negative blood work. The person who helped me with this was an allergist. He skin tested me first for true allergies and then he took a detailed diet history and gave me a starting diet of foods that I rarely ate but would give me the nutrients I needed. I started with...
  19. I would not touch wheat starch with someone else's hand but with that being said I believe, and this is only my opinion folks, that in the US it takes so very long to diagnose us while they hand us pills and tell us we need therapy that we in the US end up being much more sensitive than folks in countries where they routinely screen or where diagnosis takes...
  20. It took a few months for me because in the begining I was clueless to topical gluten and CC. Once I eliminated gluten completely my skin clears in a couple weeks. The deposits can remain in the skin for a couple of years waiting for a trace to make tham active again. When I accidentally get gluten the rash and itching start within a few hours. This...
  21. I would call the company to check on the flavorings that were added. Personally I stay away from oatmeal as it is not worth the risk for me.
  22. "For Kraft-branded products that contain vinegar, information from our vinegar suppliers assures us that the vinegar we use in our products is gluten free. All vinegar is distilled and through the distilling process protein gluten is removed." For me this statement is troubling and I use products that I can verify the distilled vinager is from corn. NOT...
  23. I used 'Sun In' as a teen, and it never stopped working I was left with strawberry blonde hair on the top and my natural dark brown underneath. It looked so strange so I started coloring to get back to my natural color, should have shaved my head instead I also started to go gray in my teens, hello celiac, and continued coloring into my forties. ...
  24. Misdiagnosis and false negatives on celiac testing had left me disabled and very isolated. This forum has helped me to feel like I have a bit more of a life. That maybe my experience and recovery served some sort of purpose, if I could recover as much as I have from so much that I was handed pills for and told 'learn to live with the pain' perhaps others...
  25. Big YES for me, it is one of the first signs I have gotten CC somewhere. Well that and falling over sideways For me it is a limited effect with the depression lifting in about 24 to 48 hours. Because for me it is a limited effect I do not medicate it in any way other than some chocolate and some me time. Try not to get down on yourself about the Doritios...
