This is why we need to call or verify everything we eat ourselves. Just because you read something that says an item is safe does not mean it is. I have made myself ill more than once because I read somewhere an item was safe only to find out the hard way that it isn't. Just because the label does not list gluten containing ingredients does not mean the...

You really need to give your body more time to heal. Try to eat pure unprocessed foods as much as possible. Also make sure you have checked all toiletries, lotions, craft items like clays and glues, pet foods etc. Also make sure , real sure that all your meds are gluten free, especially OTCs, vitamins and tummy related ones like antiacids. Are you trying...

ARCHIVED Mystery Med Ingredients?! Grr...
ravenwoodglass replied to relepvd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Go with name brand not generics. The name brand will be able to tell you what the binders are. I always get the insert from the pharmacey and recheck to make sure they are safe by calling the company. I think it is disgusting that drugs are not regulated as well as food is. The people to write to and complain would be the pharma companies themselves and... -
ARCHIVED Coca-cola (caffeine Free)
ravenwoodglass replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just a note on Coke- coca cola goes by the Codex Standard for gluten free. If you trust the codex standard then all the products listed are safe. That being said both my DS and I seem to have had reactions from both coke and Dr. Pepper. Reactions are mostly skin related and mild but we go with clear sodas when we feel we have to have them. The best... -
Those sanders are great, I use one for woodworking but usually the sander that is used for drywall is a hand sander or a pole and a mesh type covering. I hung drywall myself for years and we never used a power sander as it is difficult to get a level finish on the mud. You can also use a damp sponge on the seams when they are dry to smooth them out which...

ARCHIVED Which Vanilla Is Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to ARK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use McCormicks because it is distilled from corn not a gluten containing grain. If you are sensitive to grain alcohols and many of us are call the company to make sure it is gluten-free. Distilled grain is not safe for everyone although some tolerate it fine some don't. -
ARCHIVED Caramel
ravenwoodglass replied to Kaycee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, I knew I didn't like to see the words 'carmel coloring' on anything. Now I know why They don't look like anything I want in my body. As to the gluten reaction issue, I react to some also and have avoided brown sodas for a while. I found out recently that one soda manufacturor uses the Codex Standard to define gluten free, which as we know is... -
ARCHIVED Do People Who Have True Celiac - Not Gluten Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I am an example of one of those. I was a full blown celiac close to death when I was diagnosed. I had blood tests for celiac many times at Strong, one of the best hospitals in NY. I wish they had told me about what it was so I could have tried the diet before I got so bad I had given up all hope and hoped for death to end the pain. All they told... -
On the drywall issue also make sure that noone uses your household vacuum to pick up the dust and in addition if you must do it yourself lightly mist the walls with a bit of water before sanding and use big plastic drop cloths over the doorways to isolate the room being drywalled. Slip your shoes inside plastic bags or get the little shoe covers they use...

ARCHIVED Gp Is Going To Give A Positive Diagnosis At Last
ravenwoodglass replied to girlfromclare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is good news. It is great some doctors are finally waking up. Don't count on the tax credit too much though as it is counted as a medical expense and you may find that without prescriptions and tests and doctors visits you don't spend enough to qualify for it. It also involves an awful lot of calculation, and you may find you don't use as much celiac... -
ARCHIVED Plenty Of Celiac Symptoms...
ravenwoodglass replied to The One's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do the diet strictly for a while, then if you still feel the need perhaps a gluten challenge would be enough proof for you. If gluten is contributing to your problems you will heal. Don't bet on doctors being wise enough to see the link between gluten and your neuro problems. Many are clueless and the only thing they can do anyway is to tell you to be... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Memories
ravenwoodglass replied to Kaycee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Some of my best memories are also my ugliest. We had an aunt that had the worst taste you could imagine, you know the kind- they give you footie pj's on your 16th birthday. Every Xmas we always opened her gifts first. They always put a smile on your face, the best example was the year she gave my Mom a set of luxurious bath towels, they were olive green... -
ARCHIVED Jelly Bellies
ravenwoodglass replied to kbtoyssni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Jelly Bellies and was happy they were gluten-free, but I have recently found a brand that makes me even happier called Gimbals. It is much cheaper and marked on the back "Kosher,Pareve Nut and peanut free, gelatin free, trans fat free, gluten free, dairy free and egg free. " Good quality, good price, and certifies gluten-free dedicated factory... -
For me fibro was directly related to my celiac as was my arthritis. It took a long time, at least 6 months for both to go into remission but they only rear their ugly heads now when I am glutened. I suffered greatly from both 15 years and have a bit of permanent joint damage in my hands but I am now pain free.

ARCHIVED Swollen Fingers
ravenwoodglass replied to flxmanning's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This happens to me too and is extreme when I get glutened. I still have some of the finger swelling still in the mornings but it goes away soon. For me this is also kidney related, when it happens they bleed so I wonder if the filtering system just got a little messed up from all those years of trying to filter the reactionary products out of the bloodstream... -
ARCHIVED Do Vitamin/ Mineral Supplements Really Make A Difference?
ravenwoodglass replied to covsooze's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In my families experience they do make a big difference, especially the B and the B12 in particular. I take a vitamin that we used to think of as a 'stress vitamin' combo plus at the beginning I also took sublingual B12. In the beginning before you heal it is very important that the B12 be sublingual as you will most likely have trouble absorbing it in... -
ARCHIVED Raection; Smart Balance Mayo & Chicken Of The Sea
ravenwoodglass replied to mainesgem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In addition to the great replies you already have you should also look at what you had for breakfast and even what you ate yesterday. I don't know how long you have been gluten-free but for some of us the reaction can start a couple days after we ate the offending food. It can make it real hard to figure out what 'got' us sometimes. -
ARCHIVED Red Bridge Beer
ravenwoodglass replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Should I take a drive or will you buy them out this afternoon? Wegmans should have this also by the first of next month, I can't wait. -
ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Growers Almond Nut-thins
ravenwoodglass replied to Michi8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many people think I over do it but I will NOT under any circumstances consume something that is marked as processed in the facility as wheat. Period. I have had to learn the hard way that it is not worth the crap shoot. I greatly appretiate a company telling me about the possiblity of CC, companies like Lays had made me very ill in the beggining many times... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Heard Of This Or Had It Done?
ravenwoodglass replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Save your money and do an elimination diet. Much cheaper and no chance of false positives when done correctly. If needed an allergist can assist with this, but your fingers may need to do a bit of walking to find one who works with food allergies. Many just want to do shots for ragweed etc now. -
ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Ever False Positive?
ravenwoodglass replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"I had an 800% turn around in health. I have terrible results when I make gluten mistakes, and yet I wish I had known about the biopsi gold standard before I went gluten free. Given the dramatic turn around I had, I didn't think I would care. But I find I still want to have excuses for why I don't have to be THAT careful. It's denial, but it's there (even... -
ARCHIVED How To Get Rid Of Gluten In My House
ravenwoodglass replied to kara7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stress to him how important it is for you to heal and if needed ask him to just humor you for 6 months. He will not want to go back to a poison household when he sees the difference it makes in you. You may also find by doing this that your husband has a problem with it too. Many folks don't realize how much gluten effects them, even ones who seem to have... -
ARCHIVED Test Results Are In!
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It means your body is not capable of utilizing and absorbing B12. You should go out and get a sublingual B12 supplement, make sure it is gluten free and make sure it is sublingual. Your body will not absorb B12 from just a regular vitamin. This is of course if your doctor has not started B12 injections. The good news is once you replace some of the B... -
ARCHIVED How Can You Say That You Have To Be Off Gluten For Months........
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think this is a very, very important point. It took me a while to realize that I need gluten-free toiletries also, and even longer to realize that some of my hobbies were also causing problems. I also had a hard time accepting that many gluten-free mainstream foods were off limits because of CC. I suffered mystery glutenings off and on for a long time... -
ARCHIVED How Can You Say That You Have To Be Off Gluten For Months........
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I saw a resolution of GI symptoms very quickly, within a week not only did I not have the daily D that I had lived with for years but my tummy stopped it's constant growling also. I was content just with that and did not expect other things to improve also. But they did. It took a while to realize that my other seemingly unrelated problems were due to...
