ARCHIVED Feeling Awful ; Thinking About Going Back
ravenwoodglass replied to betterbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You body is clearly telling you that it does not want gluten, please do not go back on it. Figure out what it is that is getting you. Are trying to eat mainstream foods, if so you may want to go to eating foods that are less processed. Are you still consuming alcohol, many of us do not tolerate grain alcohols even though many do. Have you deglutened your... -

My son is moving there soon, any insights anyone? Thanks in advance. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Tell The Difference?
ravenwoodglass replied to hannahsue01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to agree with the other poster. If you have a virus or an infection of some kind it usually will cause a fever. Glutening symptoms can change after you have been gluten-free for a while. Many of us will be able to identify ways that are obviously only gluten related, like you daughters blisters. For me I also get skin problems and gluten will cause... -
ARCHIVED Help ! Animals And There Food ?
ravenwoodglass replied to Rebecca47's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to get rid of a bird, there is no bird seed that is safe and I kept 'getting myself' and the constant handwashing and cleaning and the needed mask (airborne gluten can be absorbed by the mucous membranes in the nose) were just too much of a pain after a while. We have also switched our cats and dog to a totally grain free food. They are healthier... -
ARCHIVED What Now Dentist That Said He Would
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am keeping my fingers crossed, I have an appointment with another guy on Weds to 'interveiw' him. I think your advice on just saying that is the way I want to do it with checking stuff is a good one. I am quite encouraged because not only the doctor but also the hygenist said they were familiar, they even knew how many of us are still undiagnosed and... -

ARCHIVED What Now Dentist That Said He Would
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the replies. I decided to cancel the appointment and am looking for a dentist who is already celiac knowledgable. I lost all trust in this guys office when I filled that script, especially after having to argue with them to get scripts rather than the house generics. It just isn't worth the risk to me and this guy insisted he check... -
ARCHIVED Cereal
ravenwoodglass replied to Mal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We like the Envirokids, our favorite is Gorilla Munch, and also like Arrowhead Mills Maple Buckwheat Flakes. For a hot cereal like Cream of Wheat nothing comes close to Cream of Buckwheat we get the one made by Pocono. It is high in protein and great comfort food. -

Thanks for the reply. This sounds like a good option. I'll call their office tommorrow morning and see if I can pick up the materials. I really wish the pharma houses would take this seriously and keep this toxin out of any meds. It sure would decrease the 'side effect list' on a lot of products. -
ARCHIVED What Is Coeliac Vs. Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to kbabe1968's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
American doctors, who are clueless about celiac to begin with of course would not know the correct spelling so they Americanized it. -
ARCHIVED What Now Dentist That Said He Would
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well here I am, I searched for months for a dentist that would take celiac seriously as I am more fearful of a gluten reaction than having my mouth rebuilt at this point. He said he would check everything and I thought he seemed trustworthy but..... He uses sedation in pill form. Twice at the office they tried to hand me generics and told me they were... -
ARCHIVED Eating A Cracker On Purpose
ravenwoodglass replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have too much to add other than I can sympathize a bit with her. Pre gluten free I would make a snack of saltines and butter and ate them with everything. Those and the little oyster crackers, sigh. I did find a really good gluten free saltine though it took a while. Ener-g makes them, we ordered them by the case till I told our local health... -
ARCHIVED Childhood Apraxia
ravenwoodglass replied to skipper30's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My youngest child lost all her speech, she had been an early talker, at around 18 months. Her only form of verbalization was screams and biting. At first autism was of course thought of but we became very aggressive in trying to find aout why and it turned out that an ear infection that she had at about a year had filled her ears with fluid that never drained... -
ARCHIVED Dissability Insurance?
ravenwoodglass replied to loko's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This may be easier if you have more than one issue going on. Many times a claim for just celiac will be denied, (these folks are clueless) but with your job if the doctor can say something like that you also have an anxiety disorder or something in addition to the celiac you might have more success. Many of us have multiple systems effected, when we cover... -
ARCHIVED I Have Been Gluten-free For 3 Years And I Am Getting Sick...
ravenwoodglass replied to Janie*'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While other intolerances are certainly a possibility you should also be a gluten detective for a bit. Have you changed any soaps or toiletries, changed makeup, taken up a hobby or craft that uses paints, glutes, clays, cements, are you doing any remodeling? Many times when symptoms sneak back in on me it is due to a cross contamination issue with a mainstream... -
ARCHIVED Poll: Official Diagnosis Or ?
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No spot for me to vote really, I was diagnosed by a doctor, an allergist and confirmed by my GI when a reintroduction of gluten (gluten challenge) resulted in D and intestinal bleeding so bad that they couldn't do the endo. I was negative on the blood tests but did have a positive MRI for brain white matter lesions that were just blown off by my neuro with... -
ARCHIVED Heat Intolerance Anyone?
ravenwoodglass replied to outOfThisWorld's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes I did, notice the past tense there. I also had problems with the cold. My internal thermostat seems to have finally regulated. I didn't have any problems with out 90 degree summer days like I used to and this winter I can keep my heat at 65 and feel comfy. It did take a long time to resolve, but then again it took a long time to heal with a lot of... -
I lived with this all my life till I went gluten-free. Now it is one of the first indications that I have gotten gluten somewhere, even the smallest amount of CC in a food or non food item will do this.

Hi Jerry, This is off limits regardless of the oats because it contains malt. Malt is derived from barley unless stated clearly otherwise. Malt is also the reason we can not eat most mainstream cereals even rice crispies or corn pops. Atkins used to make a couple of breakfast type bars that were good and were safe although call to make sure they still...

ARCHIVED Day Two gluten-free
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you could have just had the lasagna, you would have gotten the same amount of gluten. Gnocchi are not gluten free, they may be described as a potato pasta but it is still a pasta with wheat, usually semolina is used. -
ARCHIVED Asperger's And Gluten Intollerance (but Not Celiac?)
ravenwoodglass replied to imagine22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For our family there is definately a connection between the two. And being gluten free has helped great deal with the presentation of aspergers symptoms in my DS and my husband. They both now use more direct eye contact, the flat aspect of their speech has resolved, the OCD component has disappeared and both are more interactive with others. My DH even... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Heard Of This
ravenwoodglass replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would do a great deal of research before I tried this. Flushes can be very dangerous, some tolerate them but others have horrible reactions. For myself when I feel the need to flush my body a one or two day fast with plenty of water is what I go for. -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Glutened My Eyes?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Although in this case it sounds more like an allegic reaction gluten can be absorbed by the mucous membranes and could get into the bloodstream and brain through those membranes. If a person has neurological impairment because of the celiac this would be more of a problem because the GI tract may not be as adversely effected. -
Following is an excerpt from the FDA's labeling regulations. If you read carefully and particularly paragraph C you will see why this law does not protect celiacs as much as we would like. If a company can show that the amount of wheat is under the codex standard they can request that they not put it in the labeling. The FDA has not decided yet what...

I would like to know the company also, but they may not be actually breaking any laws at this point. Companies are being allowed to run out their labels. If they had a lot of them who knows when the allergen label will show up. Also the gluten may not be wheat related, it could have been barley which is often used for color and flavor.
