  1. I have been gluten-free now for 5 years and in my case this holds true. Old school testing for DH was appling iodine under a bandage and then looking for the blisters. I switched to uniodized salt and avoided heavy iodine seafood for the first few years it took for the DH reaction to calm down but I am now fine with them. I knew the deposits were gone...
  2. I am so sorry he is going through this. My DD had the same sort of pain and it is brutal. Have you checked for nonfood sources of gluten? His soaps, shampoos, art and craft supplies, are you doing any remodeling? Drywall and it's dust or dust from wallpaper removal and pasting can do it. Is he consuming a lot of mainstream processed foods? Some have...
  3. Welcome to the boards. I have sent you a brief email.
  4. "My recommendation is to go gluten-free for a month and see if your intestinal issues totally resolve. Since you don't eat wheat it probably won't be that hard. I would think that you have a problem with gluten because people without food intolerances do not get D often at all and irritable bowel is often a catch all when they don't know what is wrong...
  5. Lisa, Nothing much to add other than wishing things go smoothly for you. Cyber hugs and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
  6. Hi and Welcome, A couple quick answers for you. Yes you do need your own new toaster, just a slot won't do. There is always a risk of CC at a restaurant but your best bet is to ask the server to check about ingredients with the chef. You have to ask for your meat to be cooked in a seperate clean pan and be real careful with any seasoning. Some places...
  7. I am so sorry he is going through this. I went to the website because of course the first thing is to check gluten status of course, that was good news. However Nexium can have the side effects that you mentioned. It also said that the usual course to heal the problems is 6 to 8 weeks. Have you been back to the doctor about this? Maybe there is something...
  8. Hi Tori, I would suggest sticking with the diet strictly for at least a couple of months. Learn all you can about what to look in not just food but everything in your world. I suffered greatly because I kept coming up negative on the blood tests. No doctor ever told me to try eliminating gluten for a while, they just said I should be happy it was negative...
  9. Get yourself some sublingual B12, gluten free of course, today. Not only can celiac cause the nerve problems you have it is also most likely a strong contributor to your diabetes. I also had doctors thinking I was a drinker because of elevated liver enzymes. Especially since I have ataxia as well. I have been gluten free now for 5 years and other...
  10. I agree with the others that you need to be evaluated to make sure nothing else is going on. First though you need to make absolutely certain that all the meds you are on, even OTC are gluten-free and that you are not getting non food glutened. I would change your dogs food today, You may not be touching his food but do you ever touch the dog or does he...
  11. I am so sorry you are going through this. The best advice I can give you is to either print out some info from here or get her to sit with you by the computer and read. Another good site is the Celiac Sprue Association web site. They have the diet broken down into initial healing and after healing. The best thing your SIL can do is to just make the whole...
  12. My DS eats those all the time. We eat a lot of their stuff. The noodle bowls with a few veggies thrown in make a great meal. I like that you can control the heat by adding as much or as little of the hot oil as you want in the bowls. I use the angel hair size pasta all the time. Throw it in some gluten-free chicken broth and in 3 minutes you have chicken...
  13. The most important thing you need to do about your meds is get ahold of your pharmacy and check and make sure they are gluten-free. Then make sure if you want to get off of them that you do it under your doctors direction. I suffered from depression for over 30 years. I have been med free, literally all I have taken is asprin since I went gluten free...
  14. Me too. My hair also turned almost all white, what there was of it. Mine did grow back and I now have clearer skin than I have had since since I had 'poison ivy' head to toe for 12 months of the year as a kid. Needless to say it was DH. One thing you need to be careful of though is hair dye and shampoos etc. Many do contain gluten so you want to make...
  15. Yea the baking is tough at first. Bette Hagman has some good cookbooks and there are also gluten free flour mixes which make it less like being a chemist. There are some good premade baked goods out there, it's hard though because some are pricey and if you don't like them oh well. Things do get easier. I'm glad your already seeing some progress.
  16. I would call my vet right now. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
  17. I'm glad you finally found some answers. Your doctor may not believe you now but he will after you have healed and you hardly ever need to see him anymore. I hope you get relief soon, it does take a while to heal for some of us.
  18. Yep that's it. It's funny you mention numbers, a year or so after I was diagnosed I noticed I could add a list of numbers in my head for the first time in my life. I used to forget the total of the first 2 when I was trying to add the 3rd to it. I couldn't even add a group of more than 3 numbers on paper without adding them 2 at a time. Boy I wish they...
  19. "So - she says to let her ask about the metformin and she'll call right back. She calls back 5 minutes later and says - that the Ped Gi says the metformin would not be a problem but that I probably won't end up needing it if I get and stay on a gluten-free diet - because he said he would bet anything that I have celiac. He said that I should get the panel...
  20. I did miss that. I feel so bad for you. Since it is making you feel so awful I hope the other endo gives a clear result. I know this can't be easy for you at all. It is not surprizing that you had a nightmare you are going through a lot right now. (((((((hugs))))))
  21. One nice thing they do though is have an 'Answer Section' if you go into it it explains what some of the weird stuff is and what it is derived from. I wish all food companies would do that.
  22. Hi Lisa, I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Why is the doctor making you eat gluten after the endo but before the biopsy reports are in? If it is making you feel so ill have you contacted them to let them know? You seem to suffering so much I hope it gets better soon.
  23. Have you checked for non-food sources of gluten? Things like toiletries and makeup, especially lip sticks and glosses, craft items like glues, pastes, chalk, clays, and stuff like pet foods and shared things like toasters and cutting boards?
  24. You haven't been gluten free for very long and it is easy to 'mess up' and let a little in without knowing it at first. The blood tests when they are positive are definate. You most likely are still getting gluten somewhere as well as going through a gluten withdrawl. Are you living in a house with other gluten eaters? If so you need to be have your...
  25. If you like the sandwich you have to try the italian. I have celiac teeth so I zap it first but if you just toast it or put garlic butter on it an put it in the oven it actually has a wonderful crust. My fav part of the bread. I love this companies products. Their sandwich cookies are great also.
