  1. Sounds like a great guy. Maybe you could make some gluten-free meal, steak and potatoes, stir fry, chicken or chili and enjoy a nice meal at home and a movie. I am glad this turned out well for you.
  2. It can also be dervived from barley which does not have to be listed. Coke goes by the codex standards so if you trust the codex you can trust them. I personally avoid carmel coloring but have nno problems with pepsi products.
  3. I have had more than one script that my pharmacist has had to call my doctor and change because it wasn't safe. The most recent was Triazolan, my dentist was going to use it for sedation, there is no gluten-free form of this so Dr. substituted with name brand Valium, the generic form of the valium was again not safe. I have also had experience before diagnosis...
  4. I would say test them. Celiac disease and gluten intolerance can be quite insideous. It can effect emotional health and learning long before any GI symptoms develop. That said the tests are notoriously unreliable in young children. You say you had tests done on the youngest because he is small, where was he on the charts at birth and where is he...
  5. I was tested for MS, the MRI found brain lesions, they called them UBO's but they were not specific for MS. I then had a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't MS. They check for a protein deposit in the fluid that comes with the destruction of the mylin (sp) sheath. That wasn't found. They did find with electromylograms (where they stick needles in your muscles...
  6. They may have changed the binders in the drug. They can do this any time they want to. Gluten is pretty common in meds, especially generics. Kind of makes it obvious why almost all drugs say they may cause stomach upset. IMHO no gluten containing components should be in any medication or product designed for the use in any patients.
  7. I consider them basically a crap shoot. With some products I will react any time I eat them, with others one time things will be fine and another they won't. I get neuro effects, so lucky me, I usually know fairly quickly that I have been got. I start tipping over within a short time. For me it depends on how much I really want the product and whether...
  8. I had never heard of this but since when I get glutened I do seem to have kidney related problems and prediagnosis a great deal of edema I thought I would look it up. I found this passage from the link below to be quite interesting, the bold was done by me. "Causes Minimal change disease can be associated with food allergies, medications, or hematologic...
  9. I would go into the interview, shake the persons hand and say something to the effect of "I am so looking forward to starting on the 28th, I have gotten everything in order with my former employer and am all set to go. Where do I go my first day, what time do I need to be here and are there any more forms or anything I need to fill out?" Do this with confidence...
  10. My twin brother had this years ago. Unfortunately at that time there wasn't anything they could do. He was diagnosed with a liver biopsy. I hope this is not an issue for you but I do know that once we go gluten free the body seems to have an amazing ability to heal and the liver is one organ that can regenerate. I would also consider this a complication...
  11. In addition to the other great advice have you eliminated non food sources of gluten? Things like shampoos and toiletries, gluten in hobby or craft items like paints, clays and glues, remodeling stuff like drywall and compound or wallpaper paste? Sometimes as we heal we become more sensitive to hidden gluten aroung us. I kept making myself sick with a...
  12. IMHO this is not much of a friend. I would hesitate to share any personal info with her again and find someone else to go to dinner with. Real friends don't make snide remarks like that.
  13. If the pain is muscle and joint pain something she could try is baby asprin. I use the St Josephs and it seems to help pretty quickly with the inflammation. May not work for her but thought I would mention it.
  14. I eat their buckwheat all the time. My favorite is their cream of buckwheat, it tastes very close to cream of wheat and is pretty high in protein. They are a good company with a great product line.
  15. Have you gotten a second opinion on the 'reflux' issue from a different doctor? Did the first doctor do any procedures while he was in there that you know of? Did you get copies of all your records from the GI? I ask because I wonder if something happened during the procedure that you are unaware of, this should not have happened and it leads me to...
  16. I didn't tolerate probiotics real well either, plus I hate pills. You may want to try adding some live yogurt to your diet, that seemed to help balance flora and fauna in the gut without any ill effects for me.
  17. With a celiac son even if his tests are negative you may want to go ahead and have him give the diet a try. You may even want to make your home totally gluten-free, it won't hurt and will cut down on CC risks.
  18. Nerve damage from celiac is often misdiagnosed as MS. I was thought for quite some time to have MS. I had the same sort of symptoms, nerve wise that you do and it continued to progess to the point where I could barely walk and could only cross my legs by using my arms to lift them. I had lost all reflexes in my legs and electromylograms showed that my...
  19. Hi, The tube test you refer to is most likely the endoscopy. This is when they should be taking the biopsies. You should request that they take multiple biopsies from various areas while they are in there. You should know that depending on how long he has been gluten-free and how gluten-free he has been, the test could show a positive (villi flatening...
  20. This is an extremely important point. As someone who had an undiagnosed son in the Army I am only too aware the hell a celiac, diagnosed or undiagnosed would go through. And the issue of the drugs that you are ordered to take is a very serious one. Some of the psychotropic drugs that they prescribe can for celiacs have disastorous mental side effects....
  21. I just noticed that you are legume intolerant, could CC from the beans that are used in one of the Lundberg Chips have gotten you? I have never had a problem with their chips but I haven't had the barbeque flavor.
  22. I have to say I agree completely with what the other posters have said. On the water issue if you have not be checked for diabetes please do so, if you feel dehydrated and a bit off that is reason enough to check. I had diabetes take me by surprise. I was tired and irritable and thirsty and peeing alot but never even thought to check it. With my size...
  23. They are only safe if you trust the oats, personally I wouldn't touch them with someone else's hand.
  24. Just a note, beano has added wheat to the label, I haven't contacted the company but have see it in the store. It may be the cause of the gas not the beans.
  25. Lundberg makes some excellent rice chips, not at all like a rice cake more like a tortilla chip. My favorites are the Pico de Gallo and the honey mustard. They say gluten-free right on the bag and I have never had a cross contamination issue with them. I wouldn't say they are great for you but they are great with dips and cheeses.
