  1. I haven't had a good glutening in a long time. I started getting ill at around 1 am night before last and within a couple of hours was passing startling amounts of blood and then started throwing up coffee grounds. This has happened before but never this bad. The bleeding D and vomitting finally stopped around 8 last night. I'm still real weak but feel...
  2. Hi Jami, Don't be discouraged please be encouraged. You have been good on the diet and the damage may very well have healed. If your original blood results are positive and they have gone down and you feel better on the gluten free diet your on the right track. Keep up the good work and have them check your blood levels periodically to make sure gluten...
  3. This is so true. National Geographic did a world wide genome project recently. Mankind has definately mixed it up a bit.
  4. Heres the way I see it. If you don't cheat you won't need this doctor anymore. If you do cheat you will continue to have problems. Thus he can see your smiling face at least every six months or so and that vacation home in Bermuda will get paid for.
  5. Just one additional note, the bit about the lesion being similar to the ones for MS was what I heard also. The radiologists notes said almost exactly what you just stated. They had thought I had MS at that point but a rather painful spinal tap failed to show the specific demylination that would be found if it was MS. I was almost wheelchair bound before...
  6. Personally I've thought for a long time that allergan warnings and ingredient lists should be on alcohol of any kind. For me even a small amount of something filtered out is a no-no. I am a celiac who reacts strongly to gluten even in distilled products so for me this is really good news.
  7. I use either Giovanni Organic shampoo and conditioner or Suave. I use Suave lotions, they will clearly list oats and wheat so I avoid the oatmeal ones. I stick with Crest toothpaste. Aveeno is off limits, at least any products I have checked.
  8. Your best bet is to call the company. If you can't google them ask your pharmacist for their number.
  9. On the issue of her clothing, you may be able to do something about that through the school. I would talk to a counselor or the priest, privately and express your concerns. She may be getting teased at school about it also. I would not involve child protective services unless she is in serious danger that can not be resolved in any other way. Her parents...
  10. Hi Megan, Welcome to the boards. The best advice that any of us can give you is to spend time checking out posts here and also be sure to throughly check out info on the boards home page. The celiac sprue association also has a good site to check out and I am sure there are others. When you are first starting the diet it is a good idea to cut out...
  11. Or they may use it on the lines or at some point in the processing. I would thank this company and pass on the product.
  12. Kinnickinik (sp) makes a ready made whole grain bread, I haven't tried it cause I love their Italian but it may be worth a try. Also a note on stevia, if you are allergic to ragweed avoid stevia and maybe try agave syrup. I didn't know about its relationship to ragweed and ended up with nasty blisters in my throat. If your not allergic to ragweed it great...
  13. I don't work so I don't have to worry about this but my DS calls almost every weekend so I can walk him through a recipe for something to cook to take for his lunches in a thermos. We do chili and various varities of stews. I like the hour long phone calls and he likes just being able to warm something up and having what he calls real, worry free lunches...
  14. If they are going to make you go through a colonoscopy please insist that they do a endo at the same time and take lots of biopsies. If you have celiac the colonoscopy will not show it and celiac can cause crohn's symptoms. Also be aware that anything in the positive range on the blood tests is positive, even one point so make sure you get your hands on...
  15. Yes there is a link. I lost my twin a month before our 16th birthday to autoimmune liver disease that we now realize was most likely caused by celiac. I would put her on the diet for a few months and see if it helps, it can't hurt. Many of us have liver enzemes that are elevated on diagnosis and often that will resolve. The doctors thought I had an alcohol...
  16. Thanks for posting this. I don't use their brand I use Innova but I could only imagine the pain these poor animals went through. The ones who passed had most likely been gluten-free and their systems just couldn't handle the toxin. I know my little gluten-free dog gets very ill now if we try to give him gluten food. When the pet store runs out I cook...
  17. To start stay away from processed food for a bit. Avoid coffee, tea (even herbal), sodas, all alcohol, spices, tomato based products and things that are very acid like OJ. Begin with a diet of rice, organic and unforified for now, bland fruits and veggies like bananas and apples, if you are a meat eater make sure it is unprocessed and don't use any sauces...
  18. When I get glutened pepto is the only thing I use for my stomach pain. I never thought it would work but tried it once in desperation. As stated I would not use it on a daily basis but for an emergency in a glutening it works well and the only side effect I have noticed is that it can darken stools dramatically.
  19. My allergies are for the most part gone also. My allergist explained that my immune system was in hyperdrive, the only thing I did not react to on skin testing was beech trees. That was actually when he first suspected celiac and I left the office on a strict elimination diet. I do still have a couple things I am allegic to but haven't needed singulair...
  20. If they called this spot a UBO (unidentified bright object) please be aware that in countries other than the US are considered diagnostic for neuro related celiac. They are unfortunately a mystery to US doctors or I would have been diagnosed 5 years before I was. I would try her on the diet as soon as you can. 20% of us with neuro presentations do not...
  21. I agree with this whole heartedly, the risk of a false negative or hearing, 'well there are changes but we can't really say he's celiac till more damage is present' and ending up back at square one are there. Dietary response is diagnostic, have you tried the diet strictly with him for a bit? That would be the way I would go.
  22. The problem for me was that no one suggested the diet until I had had D daily then day and night for 15 years. They just did blood tests and said I should be happy they were negative! I also had neuro effects that required me to use canes, blinding migraines, arthritis through most of my body (pain now is gone joint destruction remains) and many other autoimmune...
  23. I would call the company directly and ask. If it has gluten in the coating or binders it will make him ill. I do not know what this drug is for but would suggest that a for sure gluten free alternative be prescribed if it is not safe.
  24. The iodine is not increaseing the speed with which the antibodies to the gluten leave the skin. What is doing is stimulating the antibody reaction. I think this may actually increase the amount of time that the antibodies are there not 'flush' them out. I had severe DH since childhood. It took 2 years for my skin reaction to not be the first thing I see...
  25. I was not self diagnosed but I am a celiac who had a great deal of damage done by doctors who went off blood work. I am a one of the 20% of celiacs that does not show up on blood work. It took 15 years before any doctor reccommended an elimination diet. I was diagnosed by an allergist after I had given up all hope and was close to death. Rely on your...
