ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have Gastric Bypass?
ravenwoodglass replied to ptkds's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I were you I would not do this quite yet. You may find that doctors are going to agree. The reason is because you have not been gluten-free very long. IMHO You most likely still have quite a bit of damage and are not to the point where you are absorbing nutrients fully. If you do this procedure you are going to be restricting nutrient intake even further... -
ARCHIVED Day 7-gluten Challenge-ugh
ravenwoodglass replied to dally099's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your challenge has been positive for a problem. Are you going for an endo tommorrow? Is there some reason why you are going for one more day even though the challenge was positive? I was diagnosed by an allergist through an elimination diet. Although he told me to add stuff in at one week increments I was in day four when my reaction started. I called... -
This has happened to me also. This is why I never post lists of mainstream products, formations change and many mainstream products are so CC'd that they can not be tolerated. I have learned that the only way to be safe is to call about any new thing I consume and then add it when I have nothing else suspect. I have had too many times when I trusted others...

ARCHIVED Need An Opinion On Photos
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree number 5 is the best. I also like 13 a lot, 9, 21. Nuber 6 would be good if you did a bit of cropping to make the central deer stand out more and get rid of the busy background. Your landscape shots are okay and they are pretty but they need something to draw the eye. The one of the fire was my favorite but I don't think this would be one they... -
ARCHIVED Black Jelly Beans
ravenwoodglass replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jelly Bellies last I checked were gluten-free. I think there is one flavor that was mentioned that wasn't but don't remember which it was so I would suggest emailing them to verify for sure. There is one brand that is gluten-free, CF, SF and kosher that I get all the time but my recent glutening has blown the name out of my brain. I will post it later... -
ARCHIVED Blunted Villi No Big Deal
ravenwoodglass replied to nate78's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So now they are saying even the 'Gold Standard" isn't enough. Boy they sure don't want to lose the money they get from our visits and tests. Many of us do not show up in blood work. Your villi have been damaged and you need to get two things, another doctor and a gluten free and dairy (at first) diet. -
Jenny, when you log in there is a couple buttons on I think it is the far right. With these you can log in forever without having to sign on everytime. I use them cause even if I write down my passwords I can't remember where I put the paper.

ARCHIVED In So Much Pain Is Tylenol An Anti Inflammatory And Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks again everyone. NoGluGirl, I alos hope that whatever is causing the bleeding is found quickly, although I have a feeling I will be facing 'the knife' after the tests. For me all this bleeding didn't start until I did the gluten challenge after being gluten free for a month. I had never bled before even though my D was daily and for the last... -
You have celiac, you do not out grow it. In addition undiagnsoed celiac is a definate cause of depression. Some of us suffer it for years as our brain becomes more and more impacted. Eventually it will impact not only your mood but your abitity to think clearly and eventually the pathways that control movement. This can occur long before damage to your...

ARCHIVED Colon Cleansing
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't speak for everyone of course but I would never, ever do one of these. I do on occasion, or did before I was diabetic, an juice fast about once a month with a very hot bath at the end of the fast. The next day I would make sure to eat plenty of fresh veggies and fruits and yogurt. There are also specific foods that you can consume that will help... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If all they are checking is your vitamin levels I believe it would be just one tube. Don't let the fear of it being more than one stop you from getting them checked if there is a need. Most phlebotamists are really good at what they do and it is not painful when they change the tubes. I have had as many as 13 tubes drawn at one time prediagnosis and didn... -
ARCHIVED In So Much Pain Is Tylenol An Anti Inflammatory And Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the word to the wise. It can be easy for folks to overdo it on those especially when they mix. I don't usually take anything, but between the gluten and the ankle I was a hurting puppy. All of the OTC pain relievers, and most script ones, are real hard on the liver or kidneys or both so I only use them when really really needed. Thank... -
ARCHIVED Cheesecake Filling
ravenwoodglass replied to jennyj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am feeling much better thanks but still anxious about Thursday. The picture is my DD and DS at Disneyland. They both have dark glasses and are kind of blurry so hopefully they won't get mad I posted it. But if they do at least then I'll know they visit the site, sneaky Mom move. -
ARCHIVED 3 Wks gluten-free And Gi Probs Worsening?
ravenwoodglass replied to SUZ42's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First off you need to eat as much whole unprocessed food as you can right now. The benefiber alone will keep you having symptoms and you need to check every single med or OTC you take to be sure it is gluten-free. Almost all have a phone number on the bottle and sometimes if you put in the name of the med and the word gluten into a search engine you can... -
ARCHIVED Cheesecake Filling
ravenwoodglass replied to jennyj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Where do you find gluten free gram crackers? I didn't think such a thing existed. I miss S'mores a lot. I like to use either Arrowroot Cookies or Enjoy life snickerdoodles for cheesecake crust. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge..suddenly Loads Of D Really Worried..
ravenwoodglass replied to MinxyMandy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I agree with previous poster but I think you have one more option. You are only a couple days from the scope, a third option would be to stop the gluten and get the scope done anyway if you really need a doctor confirmation. I doubt you will heal enough in 2 days for it to imact the results too strongly... -
ARCHIVED Cross-contamination
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What a great phrase. Peoples eyes would be less likely to glaze over that one. -
That is such wonderful news. I know you'll have lots more days like that. Think of all the fun you'll have this summer.

ARCHIVED How Far Does One Go With Possible Cross Contaimination?
ravenwoodglass replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
"but I don't go so far as to wash my hands while I am eatting gluten food and then touch him or help him eat his" This alone will be enough to keep him glutened. If you must cook or use gluten containing foods please make sure to wash throughly before helping him with his. CC is a very serious issue that can not be taken too lightly. I won't even... -
ARCHIVED Malt Flavoring
ravenwoodglass replied to punker18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yup, as stated it is not safe. It is one of the main reasons we always have to call about a product that has 'natural or artificial' flavors. Barley and gluten are not considered a mainstream allergin and companies can hide barley malt in anything they want to if they consider it a 'secret' part of the flavoring recipe. -
ARCHIVED How Long For Dietary Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to cathzozo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How gluten free is he? Is he still consuming gluten containing alcohol, does he still eat out? Does he eat a lot of mainstream "gluten-free" foods? In general if he was doing this with a doctor the doctor would have him add gluten back in after he was symptom free or low. This usually would be after a month or maybe two. He also needs to bear in mind... -
ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenglutton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had neuro symptoms since childhood and did not develop significant GI problems until almost 25 years later. I do not show up on blood work at all. This delayed my diagnosis long enough for some problems to not be resolveable. The suggestion for the sublingual B12 is a good one. It gave me some symptom relief even before I went gluten-free. After... -

ARCHIVED Anemia Improving But The Diet Sucks
ravenwoodglass replied to anemic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am glad to hear things are improving. The cooking thing can be hard. When my kids were here I would take one day and make a big pot of Chili, or pasta sauce with meat. I would also use the time to make up one or two boxes of the Gluten Free Pantries French Bread mix. I divide the bread mix into two lumps, wrap them smoothly in plastic wrap then place... -
ARCHIVED In So Much Pain Is Tylenol An Anti Inflammatory And Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone. After searching the house all I had with Tylenol was Nyguil. So I took that along with a valium I've had around for a year and sleep was acheived. Of course that combined with the glutening have given me my ususal pink pee. Fortunately the pain has lessened and I can go back to my 'just deal with it' mindset. Boy I would have loved...
