  1. These were positive results for celiac. If you plan on putting him through an endo you will need to keep him eating gluten for any chance the endo will come out positive. Many doctors are now realizing how hit and miss the endo is and combining that with the inherent risks of any invasive procedure is leading more to diagnose without it. If you are not...
  2. There are a lot of false negative with the celiac blood tests, however there are not false positives. I know that is probally not what you want to hear but if the blood tests were positive you are celiac.
  3. I say you have a very intelligent doctor who knows his stuff. I was diagnosed without a biopsy because the challenge almost killed me. Now 5 years later I decided to let him do an endo because I was having my "I'm 50 time for a routine colonscopy". I had a nasty reaction to the prep and if that wasn't enough the meds they gave me never worked and the...
  4. Unless they are running out a lot of labels that were made from before the law changed. Companies are allowed to do that. I would avoid eating this with the ambiguous answer.
  5. "Tocopheryl Acetate" This could be derived from wheat germ oil, I would call the company and check before use.
  6. One more thing, have you checked your shampoos and soaps for gluten?
  7. Don't forget also that an intolerance is quite different than an allergy. It may take up to 5 days for your body to react.
  8. A low IGA can result in a false negative. Have you tried the diet? There can be false negatives with the endoscopy also if the do not biopsy the right place in your 22 feet of small intestine. The truest test is your response to a strict gluten free diet that has been followed for a couple months. If you have any doubt at that point you could do a gluten...
  9. Walter, I am so sorry you are going through this. Is there any way you can take a couple weeks more leave of absence? One thing that may help fairly quickly with the fatigue is sublingual B12, you should be able to get it in a drug store. It will help those neurotransmiters a lot which will help with the fog and fatigue. Also it sounds like you...
  10. They do appear negative but be aware that false negatives do happen. I am a prime example. Some of the permanent damage to my body might not have occurred if they had told me to try the diet instead of trusting the blood tests (and they did them over and over for years).
  11. The powdered mixes mentioned are all okay with, as stated, the exception being the Malt. The last time I checked the Ready to drink were NOT safe, you could check with them though to see if they got smart and changed it.
  12. Your doctor is right about the dairy issue. The part of your small intestine that is damaged by gluten produces the enzeme you need to digest dairy. You may, as many have found, that after a couple of months you are able to tolerate it again. Just start at first with hard cheeses and yogurt. With the sugar issue, your doctor may have found that you...
  13. Lister, Now is the time to go to your local social services office and get on Medicaid. Wtihout a job you should now qualify for emergency assisstance. None here can diagnose you and even the ones of us who may be qualified to do so would not be able to do it without examining you first. You may want to visit WebMD they have a board that has sections...
  14. How are you feeling? Are you still having frequent issues? If not then IMHO you do not need to retest. If you are having some problems then the test may be of value. I had a freind that kept having problems and when they retested they were finding the Ttg had not gone down as much as was expected. After talking for a bit I found out that her doctor...
  15. Have you checked for gluten in non food items as well, things like bird seed, pet foods, toiletries, soap and shampoos, household glues, drywall compounds, wall paper paste, makeup and pet litter, cross contamination from can openers etc? Do you still eat in restaurants frequently? Do you consume alcohol, some think they can tolerate gluten grain alcohols...
  16. Kinnickinnick gets my vote for ready made. The Italian is even eatable with just butter. For mixes IMHO nothing beats 'Gluten Free Pantrys' Italian bread mix. It makes a great pizza dough. When I make pizza I use about 1/4 cup less of water and often will chill it really well before spreading for ease of spreading. Even nonGF folks scarf it down.
  17. I know this will most likely sound paranoid but..... did they gluten you with this solution? I was recently in for some tests and although they assured me that they had checked everything it was obvious that they didn't. Maybe you could get the name of the solution and the company and check it. I really feel for you. I wasn't sick when I had my endo...
  18. You are born with the genes for it. Many of us looking back realize that we had this for a very long time before it was recognized or the symptoms became more than just something to be brushed off or classified as something else. Usually a traumatic physical or emotional event will trigger an excaberation of symptoms. I can form a timeline with many...
  19. I also would lean the way you are. As someone who had an undiagnosed celiac in the 82ond Airborne of the US Army I know how tough it can be on us. When with the unit if symptoms develop they are not easy to recoginize. My DS was ordered to take drugs that left him frankly psychotic because the gluten issue was not addressed. I KNOW if my son had not had...
  20. I can only answer for myself but I had constant upper respiratory infections since childhood as well as loads of allergies. Since I went gluten-free I have only had to use my inhalor once, my singulair went into the dead drugs lock box and almost all of my allergies are gone. I haven't even had a cold now in over 4 years.
  21. It is also absorbed through the mucous membranes as well. Some countries test for intolerance by suppository and biopsy of the cheek or rectum for this reason. You will gluten yourself if you have a gluten lotion on or are using a gluten shampoos. I didn't know this at first and I continued not only to have frequesnt GI problems but my hair never stopped...
  22. I use their pasta for lasagna and what I do is put it in the dish raw, uncooked and use a little extra water. I find this works quite well. It seems if I cook the pastas first they always turn into mush.
  23. Yes for many there is. I was depressed and irritable, even broke down in tears in the grocery store one day. For me it lifted in about a week. You need to be absolutely sure you are not getting gluten or CC during the time you are withdrawing. If you do it will extend the period of withdrawl. For me it helped to keep reminding myself that what I was...
  24. The hair loss can be either diffuse or patchy. Some lose it from all over. That was me most was in the front, at the temples and I had a bald spot at the back of my head. My DH had his come out in circular patches, alopecia. With gluten intolerance you are having an autoimmune response. Where that response does the most damage can be different for...
  25. Hi and welcome. Sugar, coffee and equal are all fine. I don't believe the bread you refer to is though. Remember wheat free is not always gluten free. You need to avoid wheat, rye, barley and oats. Ener-G and Kinnickinnick are a couple good ones. The best way to heal at first is to try and eat as much naturally gluten free food as you can. Fruit, veggies...
