I am another one that the idiots did this to. After I was finally diagnosed celiac I did some research. The lesions are called in the USA "UBOs" or unidentified bright objects. They are similar in appearence to the lesions found in MS but are not in the right place to be demylinating lesions. In other countries they are diagnostic of celiac, but after...

ARCHIVED Needing More Advice Before My Dr. Appt. Tonight
ravenwoodglass replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Walter, I noticed you had another post from the day before about the birthday party issue. I am wondering if you may still be reacting from that. The peanuts of course could be a not safe item, you really should call on your processed foods before consuming if you can. If you can eat most unprocessed foods right now you will heal faster and then... -
I am so sorry things are so hard for you right now. I am glad you decided it was time to come back to the gluten free world. Those of us with DH are only too aware that while the med helps the skin it does nothing for the autoimmune reaction that is occuring in the rest of the body. Too bad most doctors don't know to take that into consideration but...

You should be able to access those records even after moving. Have you contacted your old doctors? If you are unable to for some reason, in the US we have a legal right to copies of all records but don't know if it is the same in UK, make sure you have your new GP contact and get the records. They should be able to get them if you can't.

ARCHIVED I Need Someone
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Lister, I am always here for you if you need to vent a bit. I have a son about your age and listen to him vent all the time. He is celiac also and has a very restricted social life due to the celiac and shyness. I may not have solutions to your problems but may be able to add thoughts and a nonjudgemental ear. Feel free to PM me if you want, I have no... -
ARCHIVED Have You Had Gluten Reactions To These Products?
ravenwoodglass replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I couldn't answer about any other than the Amy's. Eating that companys food is like playing roulette, same as many other companys that make stuff that is not gluten-free along with gluten-free food. Healthy Choice I would not touch. Not worth the risk. The company that makes it makes so little gluten-free food that I would never touch the few items they... -
ARCHIVED What Is Causing The Numbness
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is a result of your glutening. The suggestion to start taking sublingual B12 is a good one. It should help. If your B12 levels are down, and different folks feel this lack at different levels, mine was still over 200 but I was having severe symptoms at diagnosis. My doc considered this an OK level but by looking through my old labs I discovered that... -
ARCHIVED Endo Results - Duodenum With Focal Gastric Metaplasia
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for the reply. I did get the actual report along with copies of all my labs. It does not mention any yes or no as far as the HP issue. The microscopic finding were: 'partial gastric metaplasia with foveolar epithelium. Brunner's glands present. The segment with gastric metaplasia some of the glands show increased nuclear cytoplasmic... -
ARCHIVED Diverticulitis Of The Ascending Colon
ravenwoodglass replied to angel-jd1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Diverticulosis is weak spots that form little out pouches in the wall of the large intestine. I am sure it has more than one cause but for many of us the reason they form is from having severe constipation. Diverticuli that get food or seeds caught in them and then get infected cause diverticulitis. When you see 'otis' on the end of a word like diverticuli... -

ARCHIVED New Pet Food Alert! Gluten Free Dog And Cat Food
ravenwoodglass replied to yokomindy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you can find the Innova Evo food near you you might want to try it. The company that makes it is called Natura Pet. They have a web a site that is just www.naturapet.com where i found lists of locations that sell it near me. I buy it at Country Max. The Evo is a dry food that is totally grain free with just meat and veggies. My animals do very well... -
ARCHIVED Death By Chocolate?
ravenwoodglass replied to DestinyLeah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh how I wish I had a magic wand and could help you feel better. It concerns me that you seem to have no memory of doing this. Am I correct? Do you have other neuro celiac features like migraines, depression, anxiety, extreme PMS? Balance, learning or memory problems? Has this ever happened before? Had you had anything to drink, in particular gluten... -
ARCHIVED Endo Results - Duodenum With Focal Gastric Metaplasia
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good, I am going to call my GI Monday to find out if he tested for it. I should think he would have suggested testing but but then again this guy doesn't even know celiac can cause any symptoms other than GI. You set my mind at ease a bit. I guess I can stop labeling my treasures as to who gets what for a bit longer. I don't know what I would do if... -
ARCHIVED Endo Results - Duodenum With Focal Gastric Metaplasia
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the reply and the link. Do you know how they test for H pylori, would it be likely in someone who only rarely has any signs of heartburn or reflux? I am assuming it would be prudent to ask for a test for it. The treatment is antibiotics, correct? -
I had an endo a couple of weeks ago. After 5 years gluten-free there was no evidence of celiac so I guess I have healed nicely. However the biopsy report stated that they found Focal Gastric Metaplasia in the specimens. My doctor thinks they messed up at the lab and made a mistake and is comfortable waiting a year or so and then redoing the biopsy. He...

ARCHIVED Wheat Gluten And Chicken?
ravenwoodglass replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The melamine has been found in the meat of these birds. They have been on the market for a while. The FDA is stateing that we need not be concerned because chicken would only form a small portion of our diet, rather than the sole source of food like for our pets. The FDA has not issued any recall of the chickens but the hogs are basically 'in quarentine... -
ARCHIVED Diverticulitis Of The Ascending Colon
ravenwoodglass replied to angel-jd1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jessica, I would ask for the referral. If this an an attack of diverticulitis, (when the diverticuli become inflamed and infected) it can be very serious. It is also usually an 'acute' problem that develops suddenly. There is a risk that the inflamed diverticuli can burst and release fecal toxins into the abdomen. That would result in peritonitis which... -
ARCHIVED Diverticulitis Of The Ascending Colon
ravenwoodglass replied to angel-jd1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do, I have (had?) the little buggers all the way throughout my entire colon, they were found in a colonoscopy a couple years prediagnosis. The same scope that caused the I Be Stupid diagnosis at which I was told to just get more fiber. My GI said that was very unusual, usually they only see it on the left. Don't know if this helps but at least you know... -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia Too?
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My B12 levels at diagnosis were extrememly low. I used sublingual B12 for the first year or so post diagnosis but am now able to go without supplements and my B12, folate and iron are back in good levels. For me the Gluten Free diet was all I needed after I had healed. -
I can't answer about the food stamps on line but I do know most 'health food stores' would take them. If you don't go with a lot of specialty foods you can eat gluten free relatively cheaply. I purchase little processed food and go with rice, potatoes, fresh fruit and veggies and frozen fresh, I eat little meat, even less now with the melamine concern and...

ARCHIVED Left Doctors Appointment Feeling Perplexed....
ravenwoodglass replied to Islandgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did. And that little old man saved my life. It was hard to find an allergist who would deal with food, but I did find one. I had been blood tested repeatedly and always came back negative. My GI never even thought of celiac, he did a colonoscopy and told me to eat more fiber. I was severely impacted and only saw an allergist because my PT insisted... -
ARCHIVED Does This Look Safe
ravenwoodglass replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Looks safe to me, also looks quite interesting. I wonder how they get an 'extract' from a semiprecious gemstone (the ingredients I made bold)? Does it sparkle green and pink? What is it called? I'll have to check the stuff out, I have been looking for a safe mascara. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diebetes-malabsortion Connection?
ravenwoodglass replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would not have thought celiac could 'cause' a lot of things, before I was gluten free. I was very far from symptomless and have had celiac since childhood, undiagnosed and misdiagnosed. After I was finally diagnosed almost 5 years ago I was just glad 15 years of D was over with. I never in a million years thought that 'permanent' problems like my severe... -
ARCHIVED Warning About Generic Version Of Anti-depressant
ravenwoodglass replied to Flor's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The problem with all generics is that they often are not gluten-free. The binders can change at any time. The reaction you had may have been a reaction to gluten in the drug. My doctor also insists that everything be name brand, that has been the safest way to go. Even then we check the gluten statis. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diebetes-malabsortion Connection?
ravenwoodglass replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Type II is the type I was diagnosed with. The doctor concluded that it was definately the celiac that caused it mainly because I have none of the risk factors, dietary history or weight that would have caused it. Because the 'Black Box Warning' on these drugs has the same symptoms as a severe glutening we decided that forgoing the drugs and dietary control...
