  1. Hi Walter, Will your insurance pay for an allergist? You might have to do some looking but you should be able to find one who will help with an elimination. They start by doing true allergy testing and a questionaire about what you currently are eating. He will then give you a starting diet of 5 or six foods that he has chosen based on the results of the...
  2. Thats your answer. You don't need to yell at me again. Many of us take a long time to realize how gluten free we really aren't. I was trying to help you. Don't worry it will not happen again.
  3. Giovanni makes gluten free shampoos and conditioners, they have recently come out with some skin care products also but I have not checked those. I like the 50/50 shampoo and the Smooth as Silk conditioner. Badger Balm makes some nice gluten-free soaps also.
  4. Please do wait till after finals if you feel you have to do a challenge to satisfy your doctors. It sounds like you already know gluten is a problem, are you having issues still that might mean something else is going on? If that is the case being gluten free will not mask any symptoms or test results other than the ones for celiac. If you are planning...
  5. Those were positive blood tests results. How many biopsies were done? 7 to 9 would be the optimum number but many doctors only take 1 to 3. You have 22 ft of small intestines, early in the disease the damage can be patchy and if the right spot is not biopsied you will not get an accurate result. If you need a good reason to stay gluten-free without a...
  6. There is also the factor that there may have been changes such a scalloping and mucosal changes that the doctor did not consider to be a positive for celiac. You may want to get your hands on a coopy of the report. Also, as stated there are no false negatives on the blood tests, if you are producing the antibodies to show positive you are reacting. Many...
  7. No it is NOT okay to cheat. Chances are you will have enough of a problem with CC after a bit to make this idea out of the question. This will most likely sound off the wall but.... If you are new to the diet you may want to avoid substitutes for gluten foods for a bit. If you can wait a couple months before adding in things like gluten-free bread...
  8. The issue is not just GI symptoms. If you are determined to drink this stuff you may want to try an experiment. Note please I am not reccommending that any confirmed celiac do this Get yourself a six pack of gluten-free beer and a six pack of Bud. One night drink the Bud and note how many drinks it takes to put you out of it, once you recover from your...
  9. What are you eating? Are you also cooking for gluten eaters? Does this happen everywhere or only at home? Do you eat out a lot? Do you eat a lot of mainstream supposedly gluten free food like for example doritos or corn chips? You are early in on the diet, have you cut out dairy products, all dairy not just lactose? Have you been checked for casein...
  10. I have actually read about the celiac onset delay and smoking. It seems smoking can delay the onset of the GI symptoms, but in my case that may have been a bad thing because it does nothing to prevent the neuro effects or the autoimmune process and the delay in the presentation of GI symptoms of significance can make diagnosis even harder. And yes there...
  11. I sure do hope this goes into effect soon. I would like to see content labels on hard alcohols also. It would make knowing for sure if something was safe so much easier.
  12. You should NOT be using powdered gloves while preparing food no matter what the powder is. I get nonpowdered nonlatex gloves by the box at the drug store. They will say suitable for medical use on them. What ever the powder is on the gloves it is not meant to be injested.
  13. Is there anything that you are putting on your hands? Any powders etc. to absorb sweat or keep your hands from slipping?
  14. I don't have an answer on the pretzel but on the craving question. One possible reason why you are craving gluten foods when you party is because you may be getting glutened or CCed by what you are drinking. Gluten has an addictive nature, like with a cig for a past smoker if you get a little bit it will set off the 'I need more' reaction in the brain....
  15. I have used Yoplait with no problems, but I also live near a Wegmans, they lable thier yogurt gluten-free and I have never had an issue with CC with them. If you have a Wegmans near you (I beleive they are now in NJ also) they are a good choice also.
  16. Just a note on the issue of glasses in bars, since you all brought it up. I bartended for years in a couple of different states. Most have a 3 basin law. You have one full sink with soap, one with clear water and the last sink has something that is called sanitabs. The last sink is one of the major reasons I will not drink in bar glasses. I have no idea...
  17. The simplest way to deal with this is to eat a good meal before you go, bring a bottled beverage with you and just smile and join the party. If folks ask why your not eating just say you have an allergy and then either educate them or change the subject. So many social occasions happen this time of year, food does not have to be consumed to enjoy the celebration...
  18. Thank you all for the links and the words of wisdom. I very much appretiate both. Brizzo, I only took one dose of this toxic med. It does not surprise me that it would be the culprit in calls you get. I am wondering how this stuff got on the market and how long it will stay. I have never encountered an antibiotic that would make me hallucinate, I have...
  19. I have had dermatographia since childhood. I have not had it appear since I was gluten-free about 6 months. For me it was related to the celiac.
  20. We pay more and the oil companies record record profits. Those that have the right stocks are real happy. As for the rest of us poor slobs, oh well.
  21. Thanks I'll give splenda a try. Wise choice with the stevia, I had blisters as far as I could see down my throat. Most unpleasent. It was after that that I realized since I am allergic to ragweed I shouldn't have touched it. One other query if you don't mind, When my FS is over 125 I usually will hold off on eating and do some yard work or something...
  22. Thanks all, I do hope I can do this again as successfully as I did the last time. I seem to be reacting to corn (not like gluten but reacting( so it looks like I will be totally grain free for a bit. The modified paleo worked before hopefully it will work again. Thanks for the reminder about the cinnamon, I should make cream of buckwheat with loads...
  23. Thanks so much for the replies and the web site. I added it to my favorites to read over again more throughly. It is sort of what I did in the beginning when first diagnosed diabetic. Since my sugar had been stable for so long I think the week of heavy carbs with no veggies or fruits (doctor prescribed before my tests) combined with the med's destabelizing...
  24. First off ((((((hugs))))))) you could really use some right now. With the Chrons issue, have they done a colonoscopy on you? That would rule that out and a number of other issues. I know you have had a lot of tests and waiting on tests etc. and you must be so frustrated right now. The others have given you some great advice and I wish I had more...
  25. Suave and Dove will not hide gluten in their products. I use Suave body lotions (I love the new Rose one and the Lavender) and Dove shampoos and conditioners. I have also used the Giovanni Hair Products and those were quite good but I haven't bought in a while so recheck before using. The Garneir Nutritioneste product line of skin stuff is also for...
