ARCHIVED Tiredofdoctors - Lynne
ravenwoodglass replied to mouse's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'll be thinking of her and praying also. She has been through so much and is such a help to others. I am so glad they caught this in time. -

Congratulations, I am so glad to hear that he arrived safely. Please keep us updated on how they are doing. -
ARCHIVED My 1st Anniversary..what Can I Have To Drink?
ravenwoodglass replied to isiskingdom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have had some things to drink and not had a problem I would stick with your usual. I would not pick a special occasion to try and find out if you tolerate distilled grain alcohols. Some do but many do not. Most rums and tequilas are safe, potato vodkas, champange and wine. There are more of course. Try to stay simple and avoid bar mixers unless... -
ARCHIVED Does Anybody Have This
ravenwoodglass replied to little d's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My DS had this from early childhood. It went away after he was gluten free for a few months. So did everybody's acne in my family. Oh and the exzema. And of course my DH. -
ARCHIVED Dried Fruit Contaminated With Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to nama shivaya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No it wouldn't. If fact if wheat was not an ingredient but was used in the processing that would not need to be disclosed either. Unfortunately the food labeling that is required kind of drops the ball on this issue. We are putting a lot of trust in labeling laws that have improved but still have a ways to go. -
ARCHIVED Back Pain Anyone?
ravenwoodglass replied to whattodo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you have celiac your body is forming antibodies that can attack pretty much any area of the body. Once you get rid of the gluten the antibody response will stop, this will prevent the formation of any of the autoimmune problems that are related to the antibody response. The cessation of this response can put celiac autoimmune problems into remission... -
ARCHIVED Found Out Why Alex Is Still Sick!

I am so glad you finally found some answers. She is so lucky to have you. I hope she can recover quickly. -
ARCHIVED Is It External As Well?
ravenwoodglass replied to kareninyuma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is not as tough as it seems at first. Eventually your phone will be an extension of your hand and calling companies will seem as normal as calling your best freind. It is quite a learning curve at first but you are in a great place to make it easier. -
ARCHIVED Staggering Statistic-why?seems Simple To Me
ravenwoodglass replied to dally099's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know what I would do without this site, it helps a great deal just to know your not alone. Last week was hard with my son home, he is trying to live with gluten eaters and has been suffering now for 3 months with 9 more to go before the lease is over. I think seeing what undiagnosed celiac did to him gets to me even more than what it did to me.... -
ARCHIVED Advise Needed About Bowel Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Jenny1972's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, you have a diagnosis, you have done well on the gluten free diet and have been gluten-free for 4 months. You know gluten makes you sick. You don't need to make yourself sick for 2 weeks, which as stated is not long enough anyway, just to prove to this guy that the gluten free diet is what you need. If you do go through the pain and expense and the... -
ARCHIVED Butterfinger?
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would tend to think CC also. I wish they would require a shared equipment phrase on anything that is. It makes it hard especially at first when you are just starting to heal. Personally I like to know if I am playing Russian Roulette with my food. It should be my choice to take that chance, not something that happens by accident. -
ARCHIVED Mens 1 A Day Energy
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here is a link to their website. Personally I would look for a vitamin that certifys that it is gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link Many times if you put the name of the product in a search engine like google and the word gluten the companies gluten statement will be one of the first links you see. Such was the case here. -
You closed the door on gluten and have opened up a whole new pain free world for yourself. I hope you do get to work at the bakery. I used to be a chef and it is such satisfying work, hard but it is so great to see folks enjoy your labors. I hope every day is better than the last for you.

ARCHIVED Staggering Statistic-why?seems Simple To Me
ravenwoodglass replied to dally099's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea but gene testing is expensive, and if we know that we have the gene then when all the symptoms show up it wouldn't take 10 to 15 years of expensive tests and all the billions of dollars to be made from us would be gone. Our health care system would have serious money deficits and just think of all the rows of tummy meds and such that would not be sold... -
ARCHIVED Maize?
ravenwoodglass replied to jambo massive's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As long as it is not CCed it is safe. It is just corn. -
ARCHIVED Dry Roasted Peanuts?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It would have been her problem if you were allergic to them. If they were not in the ingredients in the menu's description of the salad this place needs a refresher from the Health Dept. After all someone is supposed to go to a seminar at least once a year. It is actually required that someone to attend if you have a restaurant in NY. With peanuts being... -
ARCHIVED My Doctor Doesn't Believe Me
ravenwoodglass replied to Ellie2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would advise you to do 2 things, first while you are still eating gluten DEMAND a celiac panel and a check of your iron, folate and B12 levels. Then give the diet a good try no matter what the blood tests say. The best way to do this is by eating naturally gluten free, minimally or unprocessed foods for a month or two. It is best if you can to remove... -
ARCHIVED I Need Someone
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes they do and they will certainly help with getting a job. Some programs also have opportunities to do internships that can lead to a job after graduation. Just a couple of examples would be: auto technician, tractor trailer driving, welding, hair and beauty, Xray tech, lab tech, diesel mechanic and of course much more. Have you also thought about looking... -
ARCHIVED Beer, Lager?
ravenwoodglass replied to jambo massive's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No you can not have beer or malt liquor. Beer and Malt liquors are made with barley and or wheat. There are gluten free beers around, Redbridge is the one made by the same folks as bud. Some also avoid gluten grain derived distilled or hard liquors, I am one. -
You should tell your doctor. It is probably due to your low vitamin levels but can also ber a sign of things more serious. Check with your doctor to be on the safe side. Also make sure that your supplements are gluten-free. Make sure they do not contain any barley or wheat grass, some vitamins I have looked at in my local health food store say they are...

ARCHIVED Those Red Crazy Looking Bumps...
ravenwoodglass replied to seastress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They could be DH, you may want to look in the dermatitis herpeformis section and also you might want to post this question there. The spot you photographed looks a lot like the DH outbreaks I had pregluten free. -
ARCHIVED Red Wine
ravenwoodglass replied to annie-is-GF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gluten reaction can also be a delayed reaction. As an intolerance it can take as much as 3 days between injestion and tummy upset. If you are new to the diet be sure you look over the days before you got ill, not just that one. It is important that you try to eat much naturally gluten free food for the first couple months as possible. It will help you... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diebetes-malabsortion Connection?
ravenwoodglass replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can only speak from my own experience but after my diabetes diagnosis I cut out almost all carbs other than from fruits and veggies and when I snack I make sure that I am getting some protein. For example if I have a grain derived carb like crackers or gluten-free bread at lunch I will skip the potato or rice with dinner. I do not use any artificial... -
ARCHIVED Red Wine
ravenwoodglass replied to annie-is-GF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One more question that may seem silly but might solve the mystery. Were you on a date with your significant other? If so what were they eating and drinking and did you do any kissing? We can get glutened from kissing someone who is eating or drinking gluten. May not be the case for you but figured I should throw it in. -
I hope I can give you a little hope here with my experience. I have now been gluten-free for 5 years. My brain and nervous system is still repairing slowly. I had neuro symptoms that started at age 4. Within a couple months gluten-free, and with the aid of sublingual B12 the nerve pain and parathesias had resolved. Within 6 months I could run up the stairs...
