  1. I took the Levaquin for the diveritculitis and colonitis on Saturday and only took the one dose. When I saw my GI on Thursday he said he thought everything was pretty much over, infectionwise, as I have had my symptoms resolve (the attack was 3 weeks before the antibiotic and my system was back to normal except for swelling they found on CT) so he didn't...
  2. I only took one dose of this junk. It has totally sent my sugar into a tailspin. The morning after I took the dose it was 173 and then a half hour later it was 85 then back up to 137 an hour later, fasting. I did not take anymore and have been strict this week about my diet but I am still having morning reading over 125. I am scared to death that this...
  3. This is a very accurate statement for many. Give the diet a three months shot, strictly, then after those 3 months eat a single ingredient wheat product like triscuits or cream of wheat at least 3 times a day for a week. Gluten is a delayed reaction for many so just one day won't really tell you anything. During that week do not just look for GI symptoms...
  4. Are you off the gluten-free diet? I am assuming you must be if you are eating this stuff. Glad the comp thing is going well, you may even get buzy enough to quit your 'day' job eventually. I am glad things are going better.
  5. In the US Dannon Yogurts are not safe. Here is the statement from the company: Open Original Shared Link disease=1&gl=us Gluten Gluten is a protein found in wheat, oats, rye and barley.DANNON yogurt products are not formulated to contain gluten, but they cannot be considered gluten free. This is because the natural flavor system used might have...
  6. I don't know about other countries but in the US Dannon yogurts are not gluten-free this is their statement on gluten- Open Original Shared Link disease=1&gl=us "Gluten is a protein found in wheat, oats, rye and barley.DANNON yogurt products are not formulated to containgluten, but they cannot be considered gluten free. 7. Not much to add but a warning, MOST barium preparations are NOT gluten-free, make absolutely certain that his is before his exam. I just had a CT done which was supposed to include a barium prep. They ended up using a water based solution because none of the barium they had was safe.
  8. Thanks for posting this. One more great paper for us to put into a file to take to the doctors office. Gives a bit more weight to the need to tell folks to try the diet and not just rely on tests. Even if we are biopsy confirmed it might help the next person to show this to them.
  9. Your results should be there soon but DO NOT rely on just those tests. The answer to whether you can start the diet depends on whether you are going to agree to an endoscopy if they are. If you are going to go with the endo you need to wait to be gluten-free, however there are risks of false negatives on the endo so again do not just go by that. If you...
  10. I have had this reaction from coke products. I believe at that time they were following the codex standard for gluten-free. This is 200ppm, the FDA has decided on a wiser 20ppm so I don't know if their gluten-free declarations will change or if they will change the products. I do continue to avoid them though.
  11. First make certain that the drug is gluten-free if you haven't already. If it is a generic form you need to be really careful. Even if it is you should do a couple things, first let your doctor know about the reaction, he may have a different one that you will tolerate better, second most antibiotics will upset the natural balance of the microbes in your...
  12. Many bullions contain not only gluten ingredients but a lot of MSG. Herb OX is the one I always use. It states on the label that it is gluten and MSG free. I use it a lot for tummy soothing 'chicken noodle soup' made with just the bullion and Thai Kitchen rice noodles broken up. Please bear in mind there may be a bit of a withdrawl for her if she...
  13. My first question would be do you know for sure and for certain that the yogurt is gluten-free? Many are not. If the answer to that is yes then you may want to hold off on dairy for a month or two and try again. If you are new to the diet your villi may need some time to heal before you can tolerate dairy.
  14. Unless they have changed recently no. You may want to go to their website and Email the question in case maybe they have one or two that are. Most of their products are not safe though, at least last time I checked.
  15. Be aware also that even with companies that disclose gluten ingredients many will not state whether something is made in the same facility that gluten containing items are. Frito Lay is a prime example of this. When first diagnosed I was overjoyed to see their nice long list of goodies. It wasn't until months later that I realized eating Cheetos or Doritos...
  16. That ingredient would make me wonder also. Have you tried contacting the company about whether this is gluten-free or not? Sometimes if you put the brand name of the product and the word gluten into google the companies gluten policies will show up close to the top of the results. Many yogurts are not gluten-free so you are wise to question this.
  17. Hi Jessica, If the yogurt worked for the first run just keep it up. I am also getting over a bout with diverticulitis, it hit a couple of weeks ago and lead to a lot of tests. Unfortunately my doc didn't recognize it as such until last week when I finally got a script for a couple of antibiotics. Make sure they check your scripts for gluten, the Flagyl...

  19. You are getting something your intestines do not like. You seem to have a lot of inflammation and changes to the cell structures, the hyperplasia. You may not have gotten to a point where the villi are gone yet. This was not a normal result. What has your doctor said about it? Has he suggested that you go gluten-free for a few months and then have a...
  20. Hi and welcome to the boards. I did not have any tummy problems that I thought signified anything for many years. Mostly D associated closely with my periods and constant tummy rumbles. It wasn't until after my DD was born that the daily D set in. But I had joint, skin, balance and muscle problems since childhood. One of the most painful was the arthritis...
  21. My son recently got out of school and moved to Tampa. He is also celiac I will see if I can find some info for you. It is hard with a new town, new job and celiac. It can be so restricting. I will see what I can find out for you.
  22. Fantastic news!!!!! I am so glad you are doing this. That is really a wonderful first step. Let us know how classes go.
  23. I agree completely. I just read the info the drug store gave me before I took that one dose. I should have read the insert also. I sure will next time.
  24. Do not do this on your own. That can be extremely dangerous. Your doctor may give you something in a different 'family' to help you through the withdrawl. He may also have other suggestions. Coming off of many drugs suddenly can cause seizures and other problems. It can be done though not pleaseant as a rule. I have done it. 2 weeks before I started...
  25. I could not believe how hard she worked. It can be really demoralizing for a teenager to have to start with grade 1 - 4 workbooks. She never gave up and I never lost patience. Two key elements. I thank goodness for the Oz series we worked with those a lot. Sometimes things make you wonder, if I had never been sick I would have never learned how to...
