  1. Thanks guys, it never rains but that it pours as they say. I just want to be able to sleep, there is just no comfy position for this ankle even taped. Suppose someday I should just see a surgeon the original bad injury is almost a year old now.
  2. Lucky me I got glutened day before yesterday. As usual I managed to reinjure a torn ligament or tendon in my ankle while I was sleeping last night. It dislocated at about 3:30 am so it has been a long day. I have of course popped things back in place but it hurts really badly. Why does everything have to be so amplified by gluten, agggghhhh. And why...
  3. Your best bet is to go into the products section of the board. It is a common question. There are many that are safe but a great deal of products aren't. The main things to watch out for are wheat germ oil, Vitamin E which can be derived from wheat germ oil, the vehicles for scents and oats. Some companies will only use the latin terms though and rather...
  4. Welcome to the boards. You have already gotten some great advice. I just want to say welcome, you've come to a good place for info and support. Don't forget to check out the links and info on the home page and another great site is the one for the Celiac Sprue Association. I hope you are feeling better soon and what Hez said here "First, take a...
  5. In addition to the great advice of others what are you putting on the cold cuts? Are you eating cheese or using condiments? Many of us have trouble with dairy at least at first and if you are still healing things like mustard and such can be a bit hard on the tummy. Also make sure you are using gluten-free toiletries and such, as we cut the massive gluten...
  6. This could be from the inflammatory reaction that is coursing through your bloodstream. Nothing definate just an educated guess. Have you told your doctor how badly you are reacting? If not you should. Gluten is also a neurotoxin and the suicidal ideation is not uncommon and you need to let your doctor know about it. He may, and IMHO should, want you...
  7. I had a dentist do it once, he didn't believe in celiac but I can not imagine anyone who loves someone doing this. This was abusive behavior, or the behavior of a childish idiot. Myself I don't know if I could ever fully trust him around food or drink again.
  8. Hi, I am assuming you are a female, right? One thing to consider is do you use panty liners? Are they scented? I used to react and get a rash from either the adhesive or the perfumes or something else that they use in them. This might be something to consider. If the doctor thinks you may have a bacterial infection did he do swabs and cultures before...
  9. Country Life is also the one I use. It helped me a great deal even before I went gluten-free.
  10. I would call the company and find out how the blue cheese is made and will they guarentee that it is gluten-free. There may not be any gluten ingredients per se in this but gluten is used in the formation of most blue cheese. In addition you need to keep in mind that some of us, not all, will react to distilled gluten grain vineager so I always make sure...
  11. I know this is not what you want to hear but if I were you I would eat before I go to the game. Anything you have like a hot dog or hamburger is most likely going to be cross contaminated by grilling the buns. You also need to be careful of fountain type beverages, they are often formulated different than the stuff you get in bottles. Could you bring...
  12. For me when I did the Dr assisted elimination diet it took 4 days for the D to set in. He told me when we started that I should only add a food every 5 days. He said when the problem is an intolerance it can take up to 5 days for the reaction to hit the gut. It does sound like you are definately reacting though. Remember that it is not just a 'gut...
  13. Welcome to the forum. While pot can help to alleve some of the symptoms and increase your appetite it will not help you to absorb more nutrients and calories from what you are eating. If you are 18 and 113 lbs and I am assuming male, you need to be aware that if you are gluten intolerant or full blown celiac your growth is being adversely effected...
  14. Very freaky, red hammer here also.
  15. I had two monkeys myself and couldn't help but smile. We used to make sure they had a book in their crib or a quiet toy, with the sides down when they went down to nap. We childproofed the room real good and put a hook and eye lock on the outside of the door. They were told that they could read or play if they woke up and that Mommy or Daddy would get...
  16. Glad it wasn't real severe. Now I'm jealous though, not only did you do it on a Harley but you live in Arizona. My dream is to go back to Mesa Area and see if Jakes Corner is still there. I hope you heal soon and keep it between the ditches.
  17. Personally I wouldn't touch this. Especially since you are new to this. Can you increase your fiber by eating more fruits and veggies and maybe adding ground flax seed to your gluten-free cereal or yogurt? Your much better off if you can get your fiber from food rather than a supplement if you can.
  18. One thing you should note is that most of the associated autoimmune and other health problems won't develop if he stays on the gluten free diet. The problems that most of us have are due to years of misdiagnosis and symptom relief only through drugs. Many celiacs gluten free are actually healthier than non-celiacs. If your main reason for confirmation...
  19. One thing also that you can do as far as the antibiotic goes is to call the pharmacy and have them make sure it is gluten-free. Many times the name brand of a drug will be safe but the generic is not. She may be able to take the same antibiotic but made by a different company. The pharmacy then can call the doctor right then and get the script changed...
  20. If your symptomatic son is better on the gluten-free diet and when you reintroduce gluten it makes him sick that is IMHO the proof you need. The Enterolab tests mentioned can be done gluten free and seem to be quite reliable. As to the kids that are asymptomatic, gluten intolerance can be quite insideous. For some of us there are definate problems with...
  21. You have all set my mind at ease a lot. Still not looking forward to the prep but as you all know it is doable, just not pleasant. Thanks again everyone.
  22. "This thing has immense potential for social and human destruction." Startling words - but spoken by the father of the Green Revolution, Nobel laureate Norman Borlaug, they are not easily dismissed. Or perhaps it has the potential for human salvation. Perhaps if wheat becomes scarce for a bit, or much more expensive, it will not only be easier for...
  23. Call the company to be sure. But before you do that if the burn is larger than a quarter and is blistered or a white or black color get yourself to a doctor first. Large or deep severe burns run a very high likelyhood of becoming infected. If the burn is serious and/or is in a 'bending area' you need to give your doctor a call
  24. It is going to take a while to heal. I agree completely that you should add the sublingual B12 to your vitamin regime. Also make sure you have eliminated any sources of CC including in personal care products and craft type stuff. It will also help the healing process if you try to consume only whole unprocessed foods as much as you can. I am glad you...
  25. All I can really add to the others is that I agree completely with them. This doc is an idiot IMHO. I don't think I would even look for a second opinion at this point. His blood work and dietary response are more than enough. People have also had very serious reactions from gluten challenges once they have been gluten-free for a bit that can be very painful...
