  1. Has she also cut out milk products for a bit? The villi that are damaged with celiac are also responsible for helping to digest dairy products and also vitamin B12. I would suggest she cut out the dairy for a bit and then after a couple of months symptom free add back in yogurt and hard cheeses and see if they are tolerated. If they are then add some...
  2. I had very advanced nervous system damage. My nervous system and skin were clearly effected by celiac from childhood and my negative blood work delayed my diagnosis until I was 45 and cane dependant for movement. I was also experiencing really scary memory losses when finally diagnosed. I still have ataxia, which is problems with balance, but it is much...
  3. Thanks guys, he didn't do biopsies with the first colonoscopy and my DH was the one who brought up the idea of possible pain. I am glad to hear that the biopsies didn't cause problems that is a big relief. Does anyone know for sure if Dulcolax is gluten-free? I'm supposed to take a few with the Nylightly the night before. I'm assuming the liquid prep...
  4. I get this when I get glutened. You say you have only been on the diet for 6 weeks, are you eating mostly fresh, unprocessed foods? That will help you to heal faster and enable you to recognize the signs your body gives you when you have say a potato chip or something else that may have crosscontamination. You also may want to have your blood sugar...
  5. I am so sorry you are going through all this. You've come to good place for help. First off if you had been gluten free for 3 months that could have given a false negative, also many of us do not show up on blood tests. You felt better gluten free, get yourself back on the diet. Dietary response is really the most definative test. Something...
  6. As some may know I had a severe episode of D and V with a lot of bleeding last week. I saw the doctor today and he agrees it was most likely food poisoning as I have none of the problems I would usually have with gluten poisoning. He is doing a endo and colonoscopy together next week. This will be my first endo and my second colonoscopy. I was diagnosed...
  7. Without a doubt. For years the worst of my symptoms would be for the 2 weeks before my period. Gluten took care of that by causing an early menapause so I can't compare for after diagnosis.
  8. I don't wear a tag but I do have it in big bold letters first on the list I have sticky noted to my drivers license. If I am unconsious I can not tell them to be aware of it in any meds or any other sort of thing. I may not be eating if I am unconsious or have a stroke but gluten isn't just in food and many med people don't know the gluten statis of anything...
  9. I am not much of a gambler, all the gluten floating around the factories is a real issue. I ate them at one time but learned the hard way to pass on their products.
  10. I was but not anymore. I do not seize now unless glutened and even then they are different and not as severe. I should note I did not have full gran mal seizures, I had seizures in the sub illeal cortex which have a different sort of presentation.
  11. In our family there may have been a link. My DD lost all her speech at about a year and a half. She went from forming short sentences to screaming. It was a gradual process. She did recover speech with the aid of a speech therapist although at 8 she still sounded very 'babyish' by her early teen years her speech was normal. Before diagnosis I had great...
  12. Before finally being diagnosed I was always so sick and so tired that real cooking was out of the question. We ate a lot of convience foods, it didn't help that my DS had been seriously addicted to wheat since he had his first taste of it at under a year. He refused to eat a meal that did not include a pasta of some form. We ate a lot of noodle mixes back...
  13. It HAS been confirmed by dietary challenge. As stated and it can not be stated enough the 'Gold Standard' is the old standard, it is not valid unless it is clearly positive. In addition you may even hear that there are minimal changes but she doesn't have celiac. Have her go back and gluten and come see me again if she gets sicker. She has been sick for...
  14. I knew there had to be someone that liked that stuff. Just kidding. My family barely tolerated it though . It's okay to mention stuff you like. So much of what we try is new it is nice to get others opinions also. If you get the chance try some of the Kinnikinnick baked goods. Their Italian white bread and hamburger buns amazed me. I find them...
  15. So glad you are feeling better. I think we all know the wonderment and amazement of that first normal BM after months or in some cases years of D. Glad things are working for you and hope they continue to improve.
  16. Have you tried any of Bette Hagmans Flour mixes or her recipes? I felt like a chemist the first time I baked anything gluten free. I have been using her mixes since I found them. I think for the cookies a mix of the rice flour and tapioca would most likely be best for cookies as they don't have a strong taste on their own. You may want to check out the...
  17. Cats are such odd creatures aren't they. And they sure don't like those boxes messed with. I was walking past the room with my kitties boxes the other week. 2 were standing in the doorway in total dismay watching my little dog lift his leg to use their box. Even after I changed it they didn't want to use that box for days. I keep a closer eye on the...
  18. The depression may have been the first unrecognized presentation of your celiac disease. Just because full blown celiac didn't show up for many more years does not mean the inflammatory and antibody processes were not acting on your brain. Many celiacs with strong neuro features first present with depression in childhood or early adolesence.
  19. "The team concludes: "Diagnosis and treatment of depression in individuals with celiac disease is important since depression may itself result in lower dietary compliance."" This statement really bothers me. What they are basically saying is that we need drugs. What we really need is to be gluten free. For my whole family the corelation between getting...
  20. I had one child who had the endo and we skipped the it with the rest of us. I am also of the opinion that unless he has problems that are not celiac related, or that do not clear up after 6 months strictly gluten-free an endo is not needed. If I had to have it done I would make sure it was under general anesthesia.
  21. The best thing to do is to start with whole, unprocessed natrurally gluten free foods for the first couple of months to give yourself a chance to heal. Then add in the gluten-free goodies slowly, some of them are made from ingredients you might not have had before and it is not unheard of to be intolerant to stuff especially in the initial healing phase...
  22. Lister I am so sorry to hear this. You need to call the doctors office and talk to a nurse as soon as you can. They will explain fully what they are going to do, what you can expect painwise, how long it will take to recover. I can assure you whatever they are doing they will make you comfortable before hand. I would also suggest that you get ahold...
  23. Please, please don't rely on just those tests. I did for years as my pain and disability got worse and worse. Turns out I am the only one in my family who did not show up on blood work. That certainly did not mean I wasn't either celiac or gluten intolerant. We went through years of painful and expensive tests before a doctor, an allergist, finally suggested...
  24. Not sure about that one but last I checked Arm and Hammers litter was safe. That's what I use.
  25. Unless they changed it a real short time ago VO5 oil is mainly wheat germ oil. Please be sure to read the labels on the commercial oil treatments, most will mot be safe. The two best ways to deep treat I have found are pure coconut oil or olive oil. You use them the same way heat them a bit apply then wrap in a towel (some folks put plastic wrap on hair...
