  1. You've gotten some great advice already. I also think you should tell him soon. You never know he might look at you with a stunned look on his face and say "Gee, so am I".
  2. Last time I checked a lot of the Giovanni organic shampoos and conditioners were fine. I have used the Smooth as Silk conditioner which has been great for my frizzies in the summer. They have recently come out with skin care products also but I haven't tried those.
  3. There are many things that are not known about celiac. While it is true that there are sites, including this one, that state that all distilled are fine there are also reliable sites such as the Celiac Sprue Association that state clearly that distilled grain alcohols are not okay for a zero gluten tolerance diet. Open Original Shared Link I know...
  4. Suave does not source their vit E from wheat and will label clearly for both wheat and oats according to the rep I spoke with a couple days ago. I started using their lotion and also bought some shampoo and conditioner that I haven't tried yet.
  5. Found a sort of understandable link. Most were very technical stuff but I have given a short excerpt along with the address Open Original Shared Link "Starch is a biopolymer present as minute granules in the roots, seeds, and stems of a variety of plants, including corn, wheat, rice, barley, and potatoes. It is composed of two components: amylose...
  6. Actually this is more than a little scarey. I have seen research, sure wish I had bookmarked it, that they are thinking of using these fibers as sutures. After all they are natural. And they would eventually be dissolved into the tissue. There may also be uses of this fiber in patches and 'sheets' that could be placed over wounds or internally. I am...
  7. Celiac or gluten intolerance most likely. As mentioned being off gluten can skew the test results and some of us just don't show a strong positive. I have one family member who was only one point into the positive range but still showed dramatic health improvement gluten free. The doctor might have called that result negative because it was low but dietary...
  8. Just a quick word of warning, some of the barium solutions have gluten. Be sure to ask for one that doesn't. It will not do anything toward a celiac diagnosis. If I had it to do over again knowing what I do now about celiac I would have just tried the diet first and saved my family years of expensive testing and pain. I was one of the unfortunates who...
  9. Because they are not taught about celiac and our medicine is controlled by the pharmacutical houses and celiac is controlled by diet not by expensive meds. IMHO before you go through more of the tests they are wanting to put you through, and I have had all and know they are no fun, you should try the gluten-free diet for your family. Why a doctor would...
  10. Despite this many of us do react strongly to gluten in distilled alcohols. Some of us will even react if it is an ingredient in perfumes etc. Many can tolerate distilled but many of us can not. Only you will know whether you are one of us who does, many times it seems the folks who have neuro damage or skin effects are the ones who react strongly. Challenge...
  11. Hi, Not much time so please excuse this being brief. Many of us avoid the Amy's products because of a high risk of crosscontamination. Eating them is like playing roulette. If you can try to stick to natural unprocessed foods as much as you can in your initial healing stages. I hope you get some relief soon, when I get this type of pain pepto bismal is...
  12. I would be thankful they stated that and pick a different product.
  13. What kind of anemia did the doctor say you have? There are many different forms. I am assuming it was diagnosed through blood work? True pernicious anemia is caused by the body not producing something called the intrinsic factor. The intrinsic factor is what allows the body to absorb and utilize B12 from our guts. Many celiacs because of the damage...
  14. Get the name and the maker from the hospital and call the company. That is the best way to know for sure. Sorry to hear this happened to him and I hope he recovers soon.
  15. You just did and your test was positive. You test for intolerances by eliminating the suspect food until symptoms are relieved and then adding it back in and seeing if you react. This is exactly what my allergist, an MD, did when I was diagnosed. When I went to the GI I was sent to after I reacted to the challenge he had me challenge again and it almost...
  16. I know only too well what you are going through. (((((((Hugs)))))))
  17. Does anyone know of a good celiac savvy dentist in the fingerlakes area? I desperately need to get a couple crowns glued in and a couple more done but they all seem clueless. I am also phobic about them so that also makes it hard. Any help would be appretiated. I am between Rochester and Syracuse. Thanks.
  18. Try heating the rice one on top of the stove on a hot griddle until they bubble. Then wrap up your stuff in them quickly, don't let them sit and get cold.
  19. Bless you and make sure you let us know where it is and spread the word about the need. My biggest fear is needing to be hospitalized or going into assisted living. I don't think I am alone in that. I know they would kill me slowly and painfully.
  20. Know what you mean. When I went gluten-free and I saw my first solid after 15 years of constant D I felt like telling the world. Thank goodness for friends and family my world is very small.
  21. I bake them. I never use my microwave for anything other than defrosting and boiling water, I have never cared for the change in the texture of food cooked in one. I could see how they would be less crunchy if zapped though.
  22. I have tried the chicken nuggets and the fish sticks. While the taste was okay I found the coating to be much to crunchy, read like eating a rock. My celiac teeth can't take it and I threw the rest of both boxes away.
  23. Glad everything is over and you are home safe. If you ever feel friendless print out this thread It must be nice to know folks care.
  24. Double check your ingredient list, I have seem a few vitamins, mostly in health food stores, that say gluten free but if you read the label they have barley or wheat grass. Country Life makes some good gluten-free vitamins, I take the Maxi-Hair which has high levels of the Bs C and folate, and Wegmans if you have one near you labels their gluten-free vitamins...
  25. I do not touch generics ( too many bad experiences with them) and I always call or have the pharmacist call when filling a script to check.
