ARCHIVED Hello And A Big Thank You
ravenwoodglass replied to spunky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the boards and to good health. I do so hope you will stick around and want you to know how valuable your story is to the folks who are in the early stages of living gluten free and getting frustrated with the ups and downs and all the 'little' things that are so important like CC. I am going on 4 years gluten-free and am still amazed how much... -
ARCHIVED What Does Your Username Mean?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It was the name of my stained glass business when I had one because I like ravens (we used to get them in our pine trees and I took pictures and did a glass piece from one), walking in the woods (when I still could) and of course I love working with glass. -
ARCHIVED How Much Gluten Before A Biopsy?
ravenwoodglass replied to abc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you need a gluten free diet gluten light is not going to cut it. You need to remove the gluten completely or you will still be doing damage to your body. Have you thought of using Enterolab? You can still get an accurte diagnosis from them even if gluten light. -
The first thing I would do is call your pharmacist to be absolutely positive that all your scripts are gluten free. Then call the number on the Aleve and on the Excedrin bottles and ask them the same question. How long have you been gluten-free? Are there any possible issues with CC? Have you eliminated gluten from non food items like shampoos, toothpastes...

ARCHIVED New Member--symptoms Worse After Being Gluten Free For A While?
ravenwoodglass replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry you are going through this but welcome to the board. I don't think your crazy at all, and it sounds like your body has given you the answer as to whether or not you can tolerate gluten. For many of us once we become symptomatic and cut out gluten when we start to injest it again the body reacts with much more violence than before. For the... -
ARCHIVED Sick For How Long?
ravenwoodglass replied to -product-'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me the neurological effects show up right away, a worsening of my ataxia, depression and sleep disruption. My GI symptoms begin within 24 hours with a growling tummy, gas and pain then the big D hits about 3 days after injestion. Then I have a couple of weeks of joint pain before things finally will resolve. You should ask your doctor to run a... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
ravenwoodglass replied to faegan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is when there is a disruption in the nerves that causes a pins and needles sensation most commonly in the hands and feet. This will sometimes be seen in other parts of the body and can also cause a burning sensation that is difficult to relieve and in some a numbness occurs. -
ARCHIVED Major Depression
ravenwoodglass replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been mostly depression free since about 6 months or so after diagnosis. after suffering severe depression periodically since I was a child. It is now one of the sure signs I've been glutened. I had to make sure I eliminated gluten from everything though, shampoos, cosmetics, craft supplies, building supplies and I eliminated it from my house in any... -
ARCHIVED I Finally Did It--my Own Personal Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to chewymom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Actually some of the gluten free cake mixes are great, I love the Gluten Free Pantry's angel food and their chocolate. I also use their french bread mix for pizza dough, the recipe is on the box, and it is just like the deep dish dough I remember. I get the mixes at both my local health food store and at my Grocery. -
This happens to all of us at one time or another. I hope you start feeling better soon. I used to get so frustrated when I just wanted a snack but wasn't sure what was safe or just nothing around that I could eat. Now I try to always keep a baggie with nuts, dried fruit, and gluten free pretzels and chocolate chips with me. It helps keep me happy when...

So glad you were not hurt badly. After almost incinerating two kitchens I learned to always have a lid larger than the pan handy and not to try and carry the pan anywhere. Cover and move from heat. You've already gotten some great advice and it sounds like you have clean up under control. Thankfully you were not injured badly and the oil and water...

ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
ravenwoodglass replied to faegan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Make sure they check your blood sugar levels. Mine started to come back and I was also more fatigued and getting up at night to pee more than normal. At a regular check up they checked my sugar and found I was diabetic. I consider myself fortunate that after I got my sugar under control they went away again. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Called Me...
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Toni, I hope you get some answers soon and that you are feeling a bit better. On a totally off topic note I love the pic of your sons, quite a handsome group. -
ARCHIVED Its Over
ravenwoodglass replied to Jackmat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, I am so happy for you that you may have found the cause of your distress. Not every med works for everyone and some do cause side effects that don't go away with time. I do however want to caution you that for many gluten intolerance is a delayed reaction. For some it takes 3 to 5 days to feel the effect of a glutening. I am keeping my fingers... -
Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure at what diagnosis point you were at. I hope you can get some definite answers soon. There are some mainstream doctors that are starting to accept the Enterolab or fecal antibody screening so I hope you don't completely discount it. I know how frustrating it is, I was negative on blood work myself.

ARCHIVED Sensory Integration Dysfunction And Gluten Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to wonkabar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You just described my DS and I perfectly for the most part. A lot of this sort of thing has calmed down a great deal since we became gluten-free. The sensitivity to sound and textures in particular. -

If your traveling here to do a donation isn't practical would maybe the Red Cross or Doctors without Borders or some other organization help with collecting, processing and transporting the donation? Don't know if this would be an option but I thought I would throw it out there. -
Lister your doctor knows your history and may prescribe them without another visit. Also if he does give you a script most doctors have samples that they get and many will just give you some of the samples without charge. You would just have to go to the office and pick them up. Drug companies will sometimes help with free prescriptions for folks that...

I also am sorry to see you go and hope that you will reconsider or that you will at least check back now and then to add your knowledge and compassion. As with any community we don't always agree on some things and some are more vocal than others when expressing a disagreement. And as with any community we can not make you stay if you are ready to move... -
Lister I have to agree with the others about the anxiety thing. All the worry you are expressing is a clear indication of that. It seems to be really getting in the way of you living your life. I also am very antidrug when it comes to that type of med but there are times when it is needed in the short term and I would be quite surprised if your doctors...

ARCHIVED E Coli From Tainted Spinach Or Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Under these circumstances a trip to the doctor or to the ER would be what I would advise if he has been violently ill for this length of time. At the very least he may need rehydration. Make sure they check you out also. I know salmonella has a 3 to 5 day incubation period but I am not sure that is the case with e coli. I would get to a doctor to be... -
ARCHIVED The Plot Thickens In
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Isn't that a wonderful brick. For me it was realizing I had just run up the stairs about 6 months after diagnosis, I sat at the top and cried. For me this has not only lasted but continued to slowly keep improving. I also was amazed when my neuro problems went away I wasn't expecting it. I am so glad you are doing so well and I hope you continue to improve... -
I am another one for never getting sick. Virus anyway. I have been gluten-free now for going on 4 years, my constant stuffy nose and coughing were from allergies, I skin tested allergic to everything but beech trees prediagnosis. My allergist did agree with what was said about my immune system being in hyperdrive, in fact to such an extent that it was...

ARCHIVED Would You Be Mad?
ravenwoodglass replied to Guhlia's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
For a seller to demand feedback is really rude. Have you checked his feedback? Does he have some that refer to this item not working or a lot of recent negatives? Is he new with a FB of less than 50? If he's new he may just be overanxious and want a higher number fast, if he has had a number of negatives he may want to be sure this item is okay or to... -

I am so sorry but so glad for her that they found it before it became active. I don't know much about TB other than that it is on the rise but I will add her to my prayers.
