ARCHIVED Alternative Cure? Or Am I Just Hopeful?
ravenwoodglass replied to tailz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would not touch this treatment with someone else's hand It is going to take time to heal from the years of exposure to gluten, get yourself completely gluten-free, in everything and give your body time to heal. I was so sick and in so much pain 4 years ago that I wanted to die and my DD even said the family would understand if I killed myself. It took... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Glutened From Perfume? Smell Of Wheat?
ravenwoodglass replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten is also absorbed by the mucous membranes. In some areas a rectal challenge is done with a suppository, the area is then biopsied a couple of hours later for confirmation of celiac. I am on a new computer and have lost the link to the studies and countries that use this method, if I can find it again I will post the link. It is quite possible... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Have Done?
ravenwoodglass replied to cmzirkelbach's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was not implying he does have aspergers only you and your doctors could tell about that. Aspergers by the way does not mean lower intelligence or functioning on an educational level, in fact it is usually the opposite. My DS is a honor student who just won a full scholarship to a very good school and is also very talented in art, science, philosopy, and... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Have Done?
ravenwoodglass replied to cmzirkelbach's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is just a suggestion but you may want to consider the possibility of celiac. This is the same sort of thing that I used to see in my DS, (who also has Aspergers at a very high functioning level) and to some lesser extent in his sister. His taste buds and senses of touch and feeling were on hyperdrive. We didn't think much of it because I am the same... -
ARCHIVED First Celiac Appointment In 10 Years
ravenwoodglass replied to sdsdsm1971's topic in Doctors
If your symptoms mainly were the DH and fatigue I would not worry too much about the possibility of cancer but the doctor will be the best one to set your mind at ease on that. You want to have them run a celiac panel to make sure your not getting strong CC, and also have them do a B12, ferritin, and folate levels as well as checking your cholesteral, liver... -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You/your Children Were Preemies?
ravenwoodglass replied to skipper30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was a bit premature most likely because I was a twin. Both of my children were very late, one almost 6 weeks late and I had to be induced. He came out looking like he had been soaking in water for a week or so all pruney. He was 7 lbs and peeled like he had a sunburn from head to toe the first month. The other was one month late and 10 lbs. Both of... -
ARCHIVED Blood Sugar Problems?
ravenwoodglass replied to chgomom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had blood sugar issues for years. One thing you should do is to eat a bit of protein soon after you have that bit of sugar. I used to just eat a teaspoon of tablesugar but fruit juice is much better. The protein will help to keep your blood sugar more stabelized and keep it from going from spiking up and down. Do get things checked out by your doctor... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says I'm Nuts!
ravenwoodglass replied to hannahsue01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Different doctors interpret tests differently. If you levels were even 1 point above the 'normal levels' she might say they were fine. Doctors did this with my B12 levels they got down to about 235 with clinical low being 225. The fact that they were over 500 5 months before that didn't matter to this doctor. I agree with the others fire this doctor and... -
ARCHIVED Pretty Good And Thougough Article
ravenwoodglass replied to gfp's topic in Publications & Publicity
It was a fairly good article, I liked particularly that it recognized that people who are overweight can also be celiac. The one unfortunate thing to me other than the absence of the neuro effects was the statement about the 'Old' Standard, the biopsy. Other than that it was a very informative piece. One thing that is off topic though is that I wonder... -
Oh and one other thing to be sure they check is your Blood Sugar levels. My energy expolded once they realized I was diabetic and I started eating to control my sugar.

You should call your doctor or go to the ER if your in that bad a shape.

ARCHIVED Company Sent Me A Check
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ya'all make good sense. It just kind of surprised me as it had never happened before. I get coupons all the time because I call companies and ask about their products but that has always be before I used them. I doubt they feared any kind of legal action from me, I am one of the 'you catch more flies with honey than vinegear' types. If... -
Did they check you B12 levels and iron? Are you supplementing with sublingual B12? If you are not you may want to get some. Also check everything from OTC and prescription drugs to makeup and shampoos etc if you haven't already. How long have you been gluten free? It can take a while for some of the problems to resolve. I had fairly quick resolution...

ARCHIVED Company Sent Me A Check
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Both my DS and I became sick after eating some Peppermint Patties. He ate just a couple of the little ones whereas I ate quite a few over the course of 3 days. We both had a reaction that was clearly gluten and I called the company to verify that the candy was indeed free from CC issues. The person on the phone took a detailed 'history' of our symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Diet Sprite
ravenwoodglass replied to LKelly8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As a recently diagnosed diabetic I had switched to diet sodas and noticed problems with them. For me it turned out to be the artificial sweetners. I now drink water or half a can of regular soda and a lot of ice with a low carb meal if I feel I really, really have to have a soft drink. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Biopsy - Celiac Vs Leak Gut Question
ravenwoodglass replied to tameka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is only my opinion but I would suspect that the villi damage in what they are choosing to call 'Leaky Gut' (a relatively new diagnsosis) is damage from gluten that has gone misdiagnosed for so long that other proteins and toxins are also leaking in. In other words Leaky Gut it simply Celiac that has been ignored for too long. -
It would most likely help but most doctors will not prescribe it for this purpose. Prednisone is a safe drug when used for the typical short term course but it does have some side effects that make it less than desirable for long term usage. When we are glutened, after we have had a chance to recover from daily poisoning, the discomfort can be severe but...

ARCHIVED Coping With Relatives That Don't Understand
ravenwoodglass replied to LonelyWolf307's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You've already gotten some great advice and you sound like a mature level headed person. Hang in there and if things get real bad perhaps spending more time with your Mom might help aleviate some of the stress. -
Great I am glad to hear that. I was told by the person who runs the local health food store that it wasn't on the gluten free list. In this case maybe I will take the CC risk. I am happy I didn't throw it away yet and think I'll go make a cup. Thanks so much for your time.

ARCHIVED My Email Response From Gardenburger
ravenwoodglass replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks I am going to have to try them. I've missed Veggie burgers a lot. -
I hope you get some answers and some relief soon. It seems you have had a long hard road and I hope you feel better very soon. What kind of Licorice tea do you get? I recently bought some of the Yogi Egyptian but found out it has gluten. Do you know of a safe brand? I miss my licorice so bad.

ARCHIVED My Email Response From Gardenburger
ravenwoodglass replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm wondering if they have either changed the product or if the website was wrong. I looked for the Black Bean today at Wegmans (the only BB they had was in a #@&* wheat flour wrap) but they had the Grilled kind. Although it didn't say gluten-free on the box it looked safe. I hope they aren't reformulating the grilled ones and adding the soy sauce... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results Negative For (big Words) But Positive For...
ravenwoodglass replied to capecodda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you are correct. I did not show up in bloodwork and my kids showed a low positive (many doctors would have considered it negative) but we are all clearly and undoubtedly celiac. The best ways to tell are dietary exclusion with no cheating and Enterolab's stool antibody and genetic tests. -
ARCHIVED Second Round Of Testing All Normal
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Boy do I know how you feel and can greatly sympathize. Near the end of my loooong search for what was causing my problems I at time burst into tears at the doctors office when given good test results. More evidence to them that my problems were psychological and I was 'just depressed' here have a prozac. This is IMHO even more reason to continue with...
