  1. Perhaps 'sickie' will morph into 'sillie' I think lots of us dealt with nicknames, unfortunately sometimes they stick. Stick - that was mine. I had a twin also, a boy and oddly enough no one made fun of him. They were to busy picking on me. Try not to let it get to you. At least your a sophmore this year.
  2. We have given a lot of resources and it seems that suggestions have been taken. Personally I am just going to continue to pray for the well being of the kids and that the right decisions are made in their interests. Whatever those may be. The family will be in my 'non-denominational' prayers.
  3. Carla's right on this just vinager is supposed to be apple cider only. Distilled vinager can come from gluten grains or corn. Some will react to a 'gluten' grain vinager. I get DH break outs from it. Heinz distilled is from corn so that's what I use.
  4. Many companies use adhesives, absorbant or perfumes that contain gluten.
  5. I agree with Patti. You have had D for so long and if nothing else your intestines could use a break from the contractions. Immodium AD Caplets and AD Chewables are definately gluten-free, I just got their lists today. The others may be also but, and this gives me confidence in the company, they haven't had them tested yet. I would take just 1 to start...
  6. Oh boy did we ever. The only time we get these or an 'acne' flare now is when accidentally glutened. Make sure since his skin is effected that you also eliminate gluten from non-food sources as well as food. Shampoos, soaps, etc.
  7. I am going to strongly agree with the other posters. Get on the diet and see what happens. Relying on the doctors I relied on delayed my diagnosis by many painfull years and resulted in complications both neurological and physical that would never have happened if they had told me to try the diet instead of relying on their imperfect tests. The diet has...
  8. If your breasts normally get swollen and are painful with your periods this could be related to that. However if that is not the case you should get an appointment. Any lump in your breasts needs to be checked out, they can do a mamogram if needed or an ultrasound to check it. Women can get breast cancer , and men too, at any age. As far as the endoscopic...
  9. I eat either Yoplait yogurt on top of Ener-G Granola or when in a hurry will have Carnation Instant Breakfast (the powder not the ready made and none of the Malt flavor) and put a handful of a couple different kinds of nuts and some raisens in a bag and run. I have diabetes from not being diagosed until 15 years after the worst symptoms began and haven't...
  10. No wonder your still not feeling good. Rice Krispies and Frosted Flakes are NOT gluten free unless you are buying ones that are labeled gluten free. They contain Malt which comes from barley. For breakfast do eggs or even Carnation Instant Breakfast (but not the chocolate MALT flavor). The powder is safe but the ready made is not.
  11. The pepto did cause the dark stool, that is a common side effect. What form of Immodiun did you take? The liquid is definately not gluten free and the only one they have tested for sure is the caplets so make sure they are what you take when needed. Did you have a fever? If you did it was most likely food poisoning as that will result in at least a low...
  12. I am hoping there are some articles out there. In my family of celiacs we rarely feel hunger. I could and have gone days without eating without having any hunger pangs or desire for food. This hasn't changed gluten-free but I also wonder if there is a connection. Celiac does impact brain function and the wiring between brain and body, hence things like...
  13. In addition to the possibility of other intolerances have you made sure that everything you use even topically is gluten-free? Many doctors don't stress the importance of making sure your shampoos and lotions and all meds are checked for gluten. Even very small amounts of gluten can cause you to remain symptomatic. Be sure to change your toaster and be...
  14. Yes it could be gluten in your shampoos or other hair product. My hair falls out very readily with a gluten shampoo. I wish it grew back as quick as it falls out. If you haven't switched to non gluten toiletries you may want to do so.
  15. I am known as a celiac nag on other boards. I post on GI related boards, diabetes, fibro, arthritis, neuro and more and while some origninally thought I was selling some snake oil cure most of the time the info is well recieved. Get the info out any way you can. Even if just one person sees it and is diagnosed it is worth the aggravation you may get from...
  16. This is only my humble opinion of course but it sounds like you need an attorney that will fight for you. I would contact a child advocacy group and ask if they know of a good attorney. This one sounds like he may be a good one but you might need someone who is more agressive. Can you find out how many cases like this he has fought, and more importantly...
  17. Hi Natalie, What a great picture and welcome. One thing you want to be careful of is overdoing any one particular food. I ended up temporarily intolerant to nightshades by eating tomatoes and potatoes in large amounts. Rotate your diet a bit it also helps to keep from gettig board with the food. You may want to check out the section of products many...
  18. Why do doctors do this to people. I have to agree with other that say to just get yourself gluten free. For right now don't even think about what other peoples opinions are. You need to heal. Once you have and your family realizes the difference in you that will be proof enough. For the first few months stay away from dairy, although you may be able...
  19. You need to get in touch with your lawyer and have him set up genetic typing by a court appointed genetic lab. that the court will have to accept. The genetic evidence can be found by any competent lab that does gene typing. Have your lawyer get in to see the judge and have him order this genetic testing done. Courts order gene testing all the time in...
  20. My DD had problems similar to this and experienced whole body shudders. This was of course blown off by her doctor as they never occured 'on demand' in her office. She was experienceing minor seizure activity due to the neurological effect of gluten.
  21. Insist that they do stool tests for the food poisoning. I had salmonnella for over two weeks prediagnosis and the doctor refused to check because she said 'it's hot and you have IBS' Had a real 'sheepish' doctor there when she finally tested and it came back positive. Don't let them pooh pooh (no pun intend) the idea make sure they test. Hope things...
  22. I would tell them what you have told us. I would mention right away that you are a diagnosed celiac and the genetic nature of this illness. I would tell them about your son's health problems and the positive blood testing. I would bring into the office any pertinent research I could get my hands on. Don't just go with Hilary contact the representative...
  23. I have just spoken with my DS and he gave some good advice. When he became ill in the service we were told to contact our Senator for assistance. Senator Schumer or another could be of great help to you with this. Contact their office today.
  24. My heart goes out to you. This almost happened to me also when I lived in another state. After my DS ped diagnosed him with failure to thrive he told me to expect that CPS would soon be knocking on my door and I ran to another state. I strongly agree with getting the enterolab tests done and also getting the media involved ASAP. I wonder how many other...
  25. (((((((hug))))))) I wish I had a remedy for you. I see this situation a lot on the WebMD boards and I know you are miserable. The one ray of hope I can give is that many say that effect is gone about 3 days after they finish the drug. I know it is needed but it is just so so nasty. You have been having it rough for a while and hope things ease up...
