  1. I think it is a good thing that your doctor is being through and checking all bases. A bone marrow test is not something they would do unless they find a real indication for it's need. They will be able to tell from the blood work if that is something that is indicated. It can take a long time to heal, I am four years into the gluten free life and was...
  2. We appear to think alot alike. Life is full of choices, we can choose to learn through pain we have no control over and use the experience to emphatize and help others, or we can choose to stay angry and bitter and only hurt everyone around us, including ourselves. I too apologize if this is a bit off topic, I tend to ramble too much sometimes (I...
  3. That was actually a positive test, that was why he put you on the diet.
  4. Hi, Glad things are going well. It is amazing sometimes what a little extra protein can do. If you are going to continue adding eggs frequently to your daily diet I would not worry too much about finding the flax. Eggs are an excellent source of the nutrients that the oil would provide. It sounds like your figured out what your body needed and I am relieved...
  5. You just stay on the diet and continue to feel better. I hope you caught this before too much joint damage was done. I never expected a diet for my tummy to resolve my arthritis and fibro. Isn't it wonderful. My hands look awful but I can use them now painfree. Doctors tested me repeatedly and I always came back negative. I just wish they had suggested...
  6. First ((((((hugs)))))), second you have a legal right to copies of any tests and notes your doctor has done on you. Don't ask for them demand them.
  7. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope they can figure it out soon, let us know how things go.
  8. Yea unfortunately it can last a while. I found that PeptoBismal helped me a bit with this.
  9. Hi Lister, I'm glad the extra protein is helping. ChelsE is right about the lower flash point for Flax, as she said add it to salads etc. In addition Olive Oil also has a low flash point so when I use it for frying stuff I add just a touch of a regular cooking oil. This raises the flash point enough to improve safety. This will also keep butter from burning...
  10. You could call the company to ask if it is distilled from corn. I have a definate gluten reaction from distilled gluten containing grains, not everyone does, but since the symptoms and the DH are exactly the same as if I ate a slice of bread I know for me it is gluten and not just some 'mystery' reaction from something else. There are many levels of severity...
  11. Try the Giovanni line of products. I find them in my grocery stores 'Health Food" department. When I called the company they started that everything was gluten-free even their 'Golden Wheat Shampoo, I suggested they change the name . They have gels and lots of nice skin care stuff as well as shampoos and conditioners. I find the one with tea tree oil...
  12. I react to grain vinagers but not to a distilled corn vinager. I usually call the company to find out what they use. Pickles are also easy to make yourself. I use Heinz white distilled vinager in mine because I know that it is from corn. We have a wegmans here that labels all their gluten-free stuff and only a few of the pickles they make have the gluten...
  13. I would get the antibody testing as a starting point and also check and make sure that any thing she comes in contact with is gluten-free. I am trusting you have eliminated gluten from toiletries and shampoos, lotions, hair dye, are careful with pet foods etc. In addition are there any hobbies she has taken up? Glues, paints, plasters, clays and such can...
  14. Thanks guys, it's odd to me sometimes that I had to get so very, very ill in order feel like I had any worth in this world. I spent my whole childhood trying to tell doctors that food was effecting my balance and made me weak but the only thing they tested for was diabetes. My childhood was a horror story with a violent alcoholic father, (hereditary male...
  15. I hope you get some relief. Just as a bit of a warning, hopefully not needed, hives can be a sign of a true allergic reaction. I know you want to continue the poisoning until your biopsy but if you notice any swelling in your throat or any other signs that this reaction is getting more severe please don't ignore it and bring it to your doctors attention...
  16. "I can confirm that it is gluten free, A glucose/fructose syrup derived from a wheat base is used in its manufacture, but there is no residual gluten present. " I would not touch this with even someone else's hand. Sorry but this most definately does not fit the definition of gluten-free from my book.
  17. Hello and Welcome, You have gotten some great advice here the only thing I want to add is the need for testing everyone in your home, even the ones who are asymptomatic. There is a very strong chance that at least 1 if not more of the members of your home need to be gluten-free other than yourself.
  18. My DH was of the opinion that both my children's celiac came from only me. It took me 4 years to get him to be tested. He also thought he had no symptoms. He was positive and it is only after a couple of months gluten-free that he has come to realize how gluten was effecting him, just not in the way most US doctors think. You also need to be tested as...
  19. I was a professional chef for years until they said it was my high stress job that made me sick. Yea, right. Anyway IMHO a culinary school or professional cooking with gluten would be impossible for us to do safely. To be a chef requires actually sampling what you are cooking multiple times in the process. It is however not that hard if you have a good...
  20. I might have liked that in my younger days. Thanks for letting us know what happens I always wondered. I believe it is associated with the autoimmune action that the gluten causes. I used to think it was from malnutrition but even a minor glutening will case me to loose hair for a couple of weeks and my DH will get alopecia or circular...
  21. If you go into pubmed.gov or do an internet search with Google or another search engine you will see many articles. Many do go with the belief that the depression is malnutritive in nature, (in the US in particular) but many articles especially ones from Europe and Germany will speak on the neurotoxic effects. Many of the personal stories on this site...
  22. Just be aware that that applies to wheat but not to rye, barley or oats. You can still find hidden gluten in ntural flavorings and in modified food starch. To be safe always call the manufacturor unless it says gluten free. Edit Great minds think alike and I think Queen of Hearts can type faster.
  23. This is off topic but I just want to let people know what I have learned during my research. The lack of menstration can be due to malnutrition but in celiacs amenorrhea and sterility of unknown origin along with frequent miscarriges are common. They no longer believe this is due strictly to malabsoption but believe there are other mechanisms in place....
  24. It depends on the person. For me I get a rash and my hair falls out. I'd rather be gray than bald. When I did color my hair, I gave it up for now as I have a DH sore that just won't go away (5 months now), I used Loreal Casting Spa as a temporary 28 shampoo color and Preference if I wanted a permanent one. Also a quick note as to the use of henna...
  25. That might be possible if we both were not so happy with the seperate house arrangement and if I had not been so severely effected mentally from the celiac and the meds I was given right before we split up and after. We both know we will never marry anyone else and talk and visit daily but ever live with another person!!!!????? we both shudder at the thought...
