  1. I am so sorry this has happened. It must be so hard to be couped up. I wanted to mention something about your meds and the expense, you could try calling the manufacturor of the drug and tell them that your doctor thinks it is the best one for you but that you may need to switch to a different drug because of the cost. Sometimes they will 'donate' drugs...
  2. Yes, I have but my DD got them much worse. They covered her tonsils. These went away gluten-free for both of us.
  3. I just want to add one more thing about liver 'stones' they do not appear to exist. I have done searches on every medical web site I know of and the only things coming up in searches are companies that are pushing liver cleansing. If anyone knows of a actual medical site that has info on them I would be interested to see the links.
  4. Most likely it was because you had been glutened. They didn't remain in your intestines long enouh to dissolve. In addition some time release products have capsules that have microscopic holes through which the medication is delivered at a slower rate. The capsules themselves are designed to dissolve slowly and if something like a glutening speeds up their...
  5. Yes hyperpigmentation can appear with other disorders and can also be totally benign. What concerns me is what you are describing as hyperpigmentation isn't. Hyperpigmentation causes darker blotches to appear. What they call the 'mask of pregnacy' is one example. The age spots we get on our hands are another example of hyperpigmentation. I am very...
  6. You need to call the company for any OTC product but especially for tummy ones. Sometimes I wonder if they know about the delayed reactions for gluten and put it in on purpose so we keep needing their meds. I used to take Immodium liquid as a preventitive every day. Now I wonder how much extra damage the gluten in that did. To help with the...
  7. Perry's Ice Cream clearly labels their gluten free ice creams. The Death by Chocolate is aptly named, sooo good.
  8. I have this allergy also. I also have DH. The allergy makes a great excuse to always buy top line jewelry
  9. Lister all Delmonte fruits and veggies are gluten-free. This includes the ones with jello and they may make applesauce as well. If you can't find Motts look for an applesauce that is just apples and call the company to make sure. Most should be gluten-free if they don't have 'flavorings' added.
  10. It can be a bit of a long haul for some of us. Have you cut out dairy? Have you checked all your toiletries and shampoos, soaps etc? Have you been able to degluten your living quarters or do you share your kitchen with gluten eaters? It can take a long time to ferret out all the sources of CC,everything from household glues and paint and craft supplies...
  11. "11 days ago, when I had my colonoscopy and egd, OF COURSE the first thing out of the GI's mouth is "oh, its probably ONLY IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNROME" !!!! Sure enough, I got my results, negative biopsies on everything, some inflamation and irritation in my colon, and a positive WBC count on fluid samples they took (what does that even mean?? the Dr. claims...
  12. You may not like my answer but you should know the bad possibilities. I had this test and it was covered by my insurance. In fact I had this test 3 times at different hospitals. I came back negative each time. I was in full blown celiac at the time. Have you tried the diet with him to see if it helps? None of the doctors, GI, Neuro, rheumy, GP suggested...
  13. Hi and welcome to the boards, I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I agree with asking the surgeon, demand he check everything. I would also ask if someone can bring you food from home. The inflammation from a glutening is not condusive to quick healing. Perhaps a freind or relative or even someone from a visiting nurse service or your church...
  14. This sounds like an interesting study. Are you looking at both dietary compliant and non-compliant? Just curious. Wish I lived closer but don't think you want to fly me across the country
  15. I think your choice of the name Merlin was quite appropriate. It would take quite a feat of magic to 'reset' our genetic code. You are of course entitled to your opinion on these things, and they may of course benefit some. But anyone who tried to sell me on anything by saying it will change the genes that my ancestors worked so hard to pass down to me...
  16. As long as it's not Imodium liquid, I just heard it wasn't gluten-free. I lived off the stuff for years.
  17. The response seen in celiac is not solely a digestive response. The absorption of this 'poison' actually begins by contact with mucous membranes. It begins to be absorbed in the mouth or even in the nasal cavities. This is the reason so many of us can't bake gluten breads and baked goods no matter how careful we are. Also many celiacs by the time they...
  18. Yes, your body is trying to tell you to stop using gluten topically. It is also very easy to accidentally ingest a bit. You also need to make sure your shampoos and other hair products are gluten-free.
  19. Although I know I'm not supposed to I react to grain alcohols and vinagers. McCormick Vanilla is made with alcohol that is derived from corn and the Heinz Company has ketchup that has corn vinager also. I stick with them.
  20. The amount of time that 'brain fog' lasts is very individual. Now that I am gluten free it only last a few days when I get glutened by accident. Eggs are also full of B vitamins, if my memory serves me it has been a long time since my last nutrition class, the B vitamins will also help the brain fog lift.
  21. I have a 'sneaky' suggestion. I use Gluten-Free pantry's French Bread and Pizza mix. While it is a pain to spread as all our 'doughs' are it cooks up and tastes like pizza. It is soft and chewy and even non-gluten-free folks can't tell the difference as long as they don't see you make it. I always loved thick crust deep dish pizza and had missed it so...
  22. You could ask your doctor or an endocrinologist. From my understanding from a growth standpoint it is too late for my DS to benefit from this because his growth plates have fused. I don't know if it is ever given to help someone gain weight or if it would even work for that. My DS and I used gluten-free protein powders and lots of chocolate Instant Breakfast...
  23. Yea, it usually takes a couple of days for the D to hit for me and I have awful stomach pain and nausea until it does.
