ARCHIVED Gluten Vs Non Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My best 'revenge' against the idiot doctors out there (IMHO) is my continued good health and not giving them more of my hard earned money. I think you have your answer. -
ARCHIVED Fasting For Blood Work?
ravenwoodglass replied to silvervelvet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This doctor sounds like a real jerk. Are you in the Military? If so they really are not going to want to diagnose you celiac. IMHO. I don't know of all the branches but I know at least in the Infantry it is cause for a medical discharge, I could be wrong about this and someone please correct me if I am not. As long as you have been consistently... -
I don't know what area they ultrasounded but I recently had ultrasounds done on both my heart and my abdomin. I had normal results but like you I saw some red and yellow on the screen both times. I know it can be disconcerting to see but try not to worry about it. Sometimes they use colors to show different things. For example on my heart scan they used...

I have had gluten ataxia since childhood. I also had low blood pressure and absent reflexes that were never explained. This eventually progressed to serious nerve damage. Almost 4 years gluten-free and almost all nerve damage has healed with most obvious improvement at 6 months. In addition to the iron I would consider taking sublingual gluten-free...

ARCHIVED 11 Cavities In A 3 Year Old?
ravenwoodglass replied to floridanative's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Please let her know that even though these are baby teeth the adult ones are also being effected. How is his growth, ask her where he was at birth and where he is now. Has he lost ground? Undiagnosed celiac in children has life long effects to their brains and bodies. It can stunt growth severely and can cause problems with learning and cognition. The... -
ARCHIVED Sugar Levels?
ravenwoodglass replied to powderprincess's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That is pretty high for a fasting number. The stress of the test could be a factor but your doctor will want to repeat a fasting blood sugar and maybe do a glucose tolerance and and A1c (I think that's it). The last test will give him your average blood sugar over the last 3 months. Celiac is common in diabetics, I was diagnosed a month or so ago. My... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to CarlaB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is no cure for gluten intolerance. It is a genetic difference. The Chrons could however go into remission independantly of the gluten issue. -
ARCHIVED Irish Oats
ravenwoodglass replied to TCA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You might want to try Buckwheat Groats, they are not wheat despite the name. I don't know if they can be eaten without cooking though. -
ARCHIVED Infants' Food Allergies Less Common Than Parents Believe
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I read this article also. My main concern with it is they seem to be mainly testing histamine or allergic reactions more than intolerance. As many of us know there is a big difference in symtoms and reaction time between the two. They used skin prick tests for confirmation of reaction and intolerances do not show up this way. -
I think everyone feels like this at times but for some of us celiacs those feelings can really be more intense. How long have you been gluten free? If it hasn't been very long these feelings may get less strong and less frequent after a while. I know my DS and I are doing better. What do you do to relieve some of the stress these feelings create? For...

ARCHIVED Back From First Gastro Doc Appt
ravenwoodglass replied to MrsC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First happy b day to the little guy. My doctor gave me something that I didn't have to start taking till after dinner time. Try to enjoy the day and try not to worry too much about the prep. I was expecting a great deal of pain but there was no cramping just hard to get the 'go lightly' (what a misnomer) down. Keeping it real, real cold helps. Good luck... -
ARCHIVED Is It Absolutely Necessary To Buy All New Stuff?
ravenwoodglass replied to Byte Me's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The one thing I want to add is to replace your canopener. No matter how clean I thought I got it I was still having problems from using it to open gluten filled pet foods. -
ARCHIVED Pumpernickel Means "bread That Makes You Fart"
ravenwoodglass replied to Mango04's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's not surprising since it gets a double gluten whammy from both rye and wheat. -
ARCHIVED Cc? Hilshire Farms Or Frito Lay?
ravenwoodglass replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just wanted to add a thought, were you doing any finger painting, playing with clay, gluing pictures, drawing on a chalkboard, etc? These are also possible sources of contamination. In addition I would also look at what you had eaten the day before. For some of us the reaction can be delayed. For example I got glutened Friday night through CC at a restaurant... -
ARCHIVED White Stools....but No Other Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to taweavmo3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would not wait to bring this to the attention of her doctor. White stools can be a sign of liver problems and also gallbladder. Check this out ASAP. -
ARCHIVED Scared, Bad Rash After Eating?
ravenwoodglass replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use Heinz and any time it I have heard of folks using this it was always the apple cider. Do you have other intolerances than gluten? I cut my nightshade use down and haven't had a problem since. -
ARCHIVED Would You Try This Treatment?
ravenwoodglass replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe they could try making these folks gluten free for a while first. Another case of looking for something to cur ethe symptoms rather than the cause. -
ARCHIVED More About The Wheat Thin Gorking....

Me too along with my salivary glands. -
ARCHIVED Stomach Bile
ravenwoodglass replied to Michelle108's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Our mucous membranes react to gluten. This is why so many of us get burning and hemmies when we get D. It is the mucous membranes being effected by the toxin. In some countries instead of a gluten challenge they use a suppository and simply take a biopsy of the rectal mucosa. Much less stressfull in the long run than the gluten loading (poisoning) that... -
ARCHIVED Scared, Bad Rash After Eating?
ravenwoodglass replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can you take pepto bismal? It is the best thing I have found for acid, it seems to work better for me than antiacids do and helps with the nausea I usually get with the heartburn. Another thing you may want to try is a spoonful of apple cider vinager, sometimes the pain can come from not enough acid instead of too much and if that is the case the spoonful... -
ARCHIVED Curious Question
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would starve, literally, before I knowingly ate gluten. But for me glutening now causes severe pain and bleeding that does not stop usually for hours. To be truthful since I get that reaction from even trace amounts I would be to afraid to deliberately eat it. -
ARCHIVED Scared, Bad Rash After Eating?
ravenwoodglass replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you have any benadryl take it and then personally I would call my doctor or head to the ER. If you should start to feel any swelling in your throat call an ambulance. You sound like you are having a histamine reaction. -
ARCHIVED Stomach Bile
ravenwoodglass replied to Michelle108's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I get glutened I will at times vomit copiously and eventually throw up just bile. Not at all pleasant. It is usually accompanied by the same from the other end. This happens expecially if the gluten consumed was also high in fat. Is this what you mean? -
ARCHIVED Back From First Gastro Doc Appt
ravenwoodglass replied to MrsC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The colonoscopy is pretty routine. Doing both at one time is really the way to go. Be sure to write "take lots of biopsies" on your forehead and your butt. If they are going to be in there they might as well be through. Were you getting any relief from the diet yet? I noticed a difference in D in just a week. I was actually scared cause I didn't... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If she has been gluten free the celiac panel tests will come back negative whether she has it or not. You do want to check everyone in the family who is still eating gluten with the panel but you can't really trust the results. The gene tests could be worthwhile but there are some who feel all the genes for celiac and gluten intolerance have not been found...
