  1. I can't help with info on the SAM E, maybe if you 'google it'? When I was angsting about a dip my son suggested I google the name of the dip along with the word gluten, I never thought to do that before and I had my answer without trying to navigate a useless site. Anyway if you do a search that should tell you what it is. If you have a local health food...
  2. You had a high positive on your tTg, you are at least gluten intolerant if not celiac. You got lucky with your first doctor, and an a-- for the second opinion (IMHO). I would go back to the first doctor and stay with him. I would also go gluten free and then if you still feel you want the colonoscopy or your over 50 get one. But the relief from the diet...
  3. I used to be a chef in a Middle Eastern restaurant and agree with others that you should have a bit of a selection to choose from. Avoid the mousakka, eggplant and tomato done like lasanga in layers because they may dredge the eggplant in flour and usually the bechamel sauce is done with a roux. Also avoid the taboulleh, a cucumber and tomato salad made...
  4. I agree with the others about giving the diet a good try, but be patient with the MS type symptoms. MS was one of my many " 'ah ha' that must be what it is" diagnoses. Have they done a spinal tap yet or an MRI? If they did an MRI did they find any UBO's (unidentified bright objects)? I had a cluster of these and it wasn't until much later that I found...
  5. I have them, everytime I get sick I get more. In me they have never gone away, I still have the first ones I got over 6 or 7 years ago. I think they are from inflammation in the capillaries but I am not sure. As to your second question, celiac can shorten life and lead to other very serious and sometimes permanent problems IF the diet is not followed...
  6. My experience with gas is the same as yours. The only thing other than gluten that will gas me up is if I chug a soda. No gluten = No Gas at least for me. Love those beans and broccoli.
  7. I tested negative for years even though I was eventually so sick that I was homebound. No one ever mentioned to try the diet to see if it helps anyway. That delay in correct diagnosis caused permanent damage and effected many of my bodies systems. I reccommend everyone try the diet strictly for a month or two to see if it helps. Don't challenge until...
  8. If he is having symptoms it certainly won't hurt to give the diet a try. If it helps you'll know and if it doesn't then you can have a wait and see attitude and reintroduce the diet later if needed. Make sure you become familiar with the non-GI aspects so that if he gets skin problems or depression, for example, in adolesence you will know to try the diet...
  9. Were you having the same symptoms this morning? You may want to check your level every morning for about a week or so. You also may want to ask the doctor to do a check of your thyroid levels if they haven't already.
  10. Thanks for your replies. I think i'll go with the 'if you can't wash it don't eat it' that someone mentioned. I don't think I need all the chemicals that they stick in 'sugar' free stuff. It just seems so weird cause I already avoid carbs, almost never drink soda and my only candy is chocolate. Hopefully this isn't going to cause me to lose more weight...
  11. You are so right, it takes so much longer to diagnose us here in the states that I think the majority of us are just to sensitive for the European standard.
  12. I was diagnosed with diabetes and was looking at some of the diabetic foods available. Isomalt was listed in almost everything. Does anyone know what this is? Is it safe?
  13. Thank you for this post. I was just diagnosed with diabetes, my doctor called after dinner last night to tell me. I have been wondering what my diet was going to be like now. It is more than a little daunting and your post has made me feel much better, Thanks.
  14. Welcome to the board. You have found a great place to get lots of info and support. You know your body your doctor doesn't. Many of us get pain when glutened some in the GI tract, some in the joints and muscles and some in both. Gluten acts as a systemic poison from the time it is placed into the mouth where it starts to be absorbed by the mucous membranes...
  15. ((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) and prayers. I hope things improve for you all soon.
  16. I can. All you can do is stress to him the importance of taking responsibility for his own well being. He is at an age where he is going to want to be 'adult' so try to encourage him to be so. It helped with my teens when I let, okay forced, them to do shopping for their lunches and snacks with me. If he makes his own bag lunch that will help him to control...
  17. Toes only sure I would, definately not my fingernails though.
  18. I would say yes, or at least gluten intolerance. IMHO, I am not a medical pro. but I believe these are positive tests. Are they having any symptoms, even non gluten seeming ones like ear infections, ADHD or ADD, moodiness, growing pains etc? If they are I would try to get your appointment moved up or look for a pediatric GI who could get you in sooner...
  19. Hopefully once they get the thyroid leveled correctly your fatigue will lift. Feel better soon. ((((((((hugs))))))
  20. Hi, fortunately I have a yard and an obsession with gardening. And I am working on resolving the other issues that have kept me from doing things like bike riding. I didn't realize exercise could help. The doctor did say that I should be able to control it for now with diet and don't need insulin.....yet. I spent awhile doing a 'paleo' type diet and eat...
  21. Is this constipation something painful? Or do you simply not go? It is normal to not have a bowel movement the day after you have been cleaned out by D. Each persons different but it can take as long as 3 to 4 days for food to travel the whole route. Enemas can be dangerous, they can upset the balance of the intestines and are not good for routine use...
  22. My doctor just called he's been running a bunch of tests and he wanted to let me know that I have diabetes. It's 6 at night so I think I found a good doctor here. I am off last weekends pity pot, I suspect gluten to be the culprit as I was sick today, but I am wondering how many of us have both celiac and diabetes? I see the diabetes educator at his office...
  23. Your pharmacist is going to be the one to go to with this question. Give him or her a call or stop in and ask. He will also put the no gluten tab in your file for scripts but remind them anyway when you get a script filled.
  24. I just saw somewhere on here that Ensure may have oats in it. Be sure to check the label.
  25. Aw Karen you have been through so much and then to run into the pizza guy! Are they making sure the barium they are giving you is gluten-free? Not all are, we found that out the hard way. I hope the prednisone helps, it was one of the few things prediagnosis that did for me. I'm glad they didn't find anything awful but I hope they can give you some...
