ARCHIVED Mass Wasn't Cancer I Should Be Happy Why Am I In Tears
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone, things are a bit better today emotionwise. As much as I hate to do it I think I will go out today and get a package of the lighter depends, then maybe I'll try a walk by the lake. Sometimes I think the fear of an accident is worse than the accident itself. I always carry a jacket or cape to hide in and a change of clothing if I am going... -
ARCHIVED Mass Wasn't Cancer I Should Be Happy Why Am I In Tears

Tiffany, What is a low residue diet? I have extensive large diverticuli throughout my intestines, does low reside mean 'constipating'? -
ARCHIVED Does Glutening Bring On Reflux Flare-ups?
ravenwoodglass replied to megsylvan2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Of course you have, that's what they want. I know I am quite cynical but I believe these companies are very aware of two things, one that gluten is addictive and two that if they put it in stomach meds folks will get quick relief but then the delayed reaction of the gluten on the system will ensure that the person needs their med again in a couple days... -
Who's Celiac Was Triggered By Gallbladder Removal?
ravenwoodglass replied to shellbean's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The way I got around this was by using disposable nonpowdered gloves and having someone else wipe the chalkboard down. The worst classes for me were the ones where the kids would do sentences on the board then go back to their seats and copy them with chalk covered hands on to paper to hand in. There may be non-gluten chalk out there and you may want... -
ARCHIVED Does Glutening Bring On Reflux Flare-ups?
ravenwoodglass replied to megsylvan2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's the gluten. Both my DD and my husband only had gerd and gas as a presenting symptom. I can't tell you the reason why other than that gluten is a systemic poison but it most certainly causes GERD symptoms. I hope you get some relief soon, when this happens to me I take pepto bismal and it seems to give quick relief, watch out for some anitacids though... -
ARCHIVED Mass Wasn't Cancer I Should Be Happy Why Am I In Tears
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for your replies, it is nice to know that I am not really totally alone. Fiddle Faddle I have thought about using depends, and while I know it would give me more freedom I feel like if I do that I am giving up all hope of ever having a normal life. But maybe if I can get myself to think of it as a temporay solution rather than a permanent giving... -
Who's Celiac Was Triggered By Gallbladder Removal?
ravenwoodglass replied to shellbean's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celiac definately seems to effect the gallbladder as well as many other systems. Are you following a low fat diet in addition to the celiac diet? Please do stop challenging with the gluten but also check with your GI to make sure you are not also needing attention because of the gall bladder removal. Some people will form stones in the bile duct even... -
ARCHIVED Made My Day
ravenwoodglass replied to jennyj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What a great guy! Make sure you let him know that our bread is packaged to last a long time in case he gets concerned that he might have too much waste. Regular folks aren't used to seeing a 'use by' date on bread thats over a year away. -
Are you doing any drywall work? Drywall and mud (drywall compound for seams) are NOT gluten free. Try to avoid the dust if you are doing any of this it could be causeing your problem. Also for some of us the nightshade family can cause joint discomfort, eliminating potaotes, tomatoes and peppers helps for me.

ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If possible try to get an allergist to guide you through this. They will take details about all the foods you commonly eat now and build your starting diet without them but designed to provide the nutrients you need with non-suspect foods. For example I started with turkey, rice, cranberry juice (the only beverage other than water), peas, sweet potatoes... -
ARCHIVED Mass Wasn't Cancer I Should Be Happy Why Am I In Tears
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had a mass in my LLQ for over a year and of course because I don't trust doctors anymore and it doesn't hurt I have tried to ignore it. I finally went in for tests and was told that I have a small fibroid, a couple ovarian cysts and that the mass I have been feeling is my intestines. For some reason they have moved out of where they should be. ... -
ARCHIVED Getting Glutened
ravenwoodglass replied to mandigirl1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This may be gluten but it may also be something else. If it lasts much longer or gets much worse you should see your doctor. Ginger and cinnamon may be helpful. You could try to sip either fresh ginger root tea or flat gingerale and try some cinnamon toast, heavy on the cinnamon, to help ease the tummy. When sick I will also boil a chicken breast with... -
ARCHIVED Do You Feel Safe Coloring Your Hair
ravenwoodglass replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am someone who is very concerned about this, especially with a semipermanent color that rinses out a bit at a time. I will get a rash and my hair falls out from this sort of thing so I use a verified gluten free product at home when I color. The last time I used Loreal colorspa. I believe a couple of their others are safe but a couple are not. I check... -

He better not b--ch at you when you call in sick today! I hope you don't have too many troubles due to this idiot. Even that little bit would leave me feeling awful for at least 2 weeks. -
Fantastic!!!!!!! I am so glad you are making positive progress with this. Keep it up. Oh how I wish doctors would test for celiac before they give us these kinds of drugs. They are so addictive and can be really tough to get off of. A bit of anxiety is normal, without it we could not have survived as a species. There are many drug free ways to deal...

ARCHIVED Sick And At My Wits End!
ravenwoodglass replied to Mandy F.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Mandy, You poor thing you sound like you feel awful. First off have you deglutened your home, including your toaster, toiletries, toothpaste, makeup? Be diligent about crosscontamination even miniscule amounts once you are gluten-free can cause a reaction. I recently went through a battery of tests including blood, heart stress, lung function, abdominal... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In The Kitchen
ravenwoodglass replied to angbanjo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bless you, bless you, bless you! As a former pro chef I know it is not an easy task and requires educating your staff to the highest degree and bless you for doing this. First always use a seperate freshly cleaned and rinsed saute pan for any celiacs food. Do not use the salamander or the same grill even if it is well scraped between orders. If possible... -
You did the right thing. You know gluten is causing a problem you don't need this jerk to verify it. As long as the H. Pylori is gone do you really need him? Also if you are having tummy troubles again since the antibiotics you may want to try eating a lot of yougert (if you can tolerate dairy) gluten-free of course or a short course of probiotics to get...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do When You Get Glutened?
ravenwoodglass replied to coco-loco's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pixi NO NO NO don't do that. I would say this is a very bad idea, by the time the laxative works the poison protein is already coursing through your system effecting much more than the GI tract. -
ARCHIVED Fed Up With Wheat And Diagnostics
ravenwoodglass replied to Mme's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Marlene and welcome. Isn't everyone on this board great? I showed negative on the blood tests but the dietary response from gluten-free has been incredible. For many very sick years I got the eat more grains stuff too, and the here have a prozac. It is so nice to know we are not alone. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Week Test
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have him do the blood test first and then try the diet for at least a month. One week is not enough time for many of us to see a difference for diagnostic purposes. And yes if you have celiac and continue to eat gluten it can result in some really nasty stuff. Get the blood test and then try the diet, he wants to do this backwards. -
ARCHIVED How Long Do You Need To Be gluten-free To See Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to JenM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have severe gluten ataxia. It has been relieved quite a bit by the diet but it took much longer than a month, closer to six before I really noticed it. Did the gluten-free diet help with anything else, skin, gas, bloating, energy etc? Personally I would give it longer. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Depression [?]
ravenwoodglass replied to Eugene's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can't point to any research but it my family it was one of the first symptoms for 2 of us. It is also the first indication that we have been glutened. It is overwhelming and accompanied by some irritalbility but of short duration. We are "normal" and easy to get along with gluten free though. -
ARCHIVED Lactaid, Will It Do Anything For Anything Else?
ravenwoodglass replied to GreySaber's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes lactaid will only take care of the lactose intolerance, it will not help with the casein. It also will not mask anything else so if it is casein that you are reacting to it will not relieve those symptoms. You should make very, very sure though that it is gluten free, many 'tummy helpers' are not, Tums is an example of that. -
ARCHIVED Mountain Trail Mix
ravenwoodglass replied to CarrieBoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Walmart is now labeling all their gluten-free stuff. I had noticed this was not labeled as gluten-free and just assumed it may have CC issues or the dextrin or artificial flavors may be the problem.
