  1. I had repeat bouts of this for a while along with urinary tract infections, for me it was linked to my constant D and accidents. Anytime bacteria gets into that area of the body it can cause PID, it doesn't have to be linked to sexual activity. There is a link between undiagnosed gonnorhea and PID and that got a lot of press, and rightly so but it isn...
  2. I get 99% Cacao by Scharffen Berger. It is just cocoa beans and vanilla beans. It does say it may contain traces of sugar and soy but haven't had a problem with it.
  3. In addition if you are not dairy intolerant you may want to eat yogurt at least a couple times a day. We start the yogurt the same time as the antibiotics and have never needed anything else. Just make sure it has live cultures and is gluten-free.
  4. I have had this although it is much better since I have been gluten-free. You may want to ask your doctor to a refferral to a physical therapist. Mine showed me excercises and massage to help with the fluid build up.
  5. Don't freak out over the PID question. This can come from many things and is not solely a sexually transmitted condition. Try to ignore their ignorance of celiac, as we all know it can cause severe C, I suffered with C for many many years and have had more than one impaction before my system switched over to constant D. I am glad they were able to give...
  6. Nini I agree with you completely. My DD didn't want to accept her diagnosis and after she went to college she went back on gluten for a couple of weeks for another endo, her damage was just beginning when she had the first endo and had healed gluten-free. The result is I have a DD who is now poisoning herself daily because a doctor told her the first test...
  7. I don't know about for others but for me it is.
  8. Hi and welcome to the boards. One of the first and most important things you need to know is that gluten reactions are often delayed reactions. So even though you didn't eat gluten today your body will still be clearing out the gluten you had last week. In addition there also is the addictive nature of gluten and you may also be going through withdrawl...
  9. "I am wondering because if going gluten free prior to having immune system tests run can affect the results, why can't we assume that it will affect the villi as well ? Six months seems like a really long time for a body part to heal. They send new mothers back to work after only 6 weeks. Did they subject the same individuals to multiple biopsies...
  10. Hi Cathy, Has your doctor run a liver panel on you? Please ask him to just to be on the safe side. Celiac can wreck havoc with all systems including the liver. In early stages of problems you might not notice any yellowing of the eyes. Until your doctor checks your liver I would avoid all alcohol and any meds that are metabolized by the liver like Tylenol...
  11. Of course not. In fact I am sure the doctors would be strongly against it. If it was found that the family was actually celiac and had organs removed for nothing can you imagine the law suits.
  12. All I can tell you is how very, very much I wish we had pushed even the issue of testing with our pediatrician. If there was anything I could do to help my son achieve even that coveted 10th percentile spot I would. Your doctor has tested and found the deficency. These shots are very effective and could make a real difference in his selfimage and employability...
  13. First congratulations on the new addition to your family. Please don't feel guilty about the gluten exposure. It wasn't like you stopped at Dunkin Donuts. You caught everything quickly and all will be fine. You are so lucky the cause of your childs failure to thrive was found at a young age. And with the new baby showing signs you have once again done...
  14. Why not get a gluten-free cake mix and have them make that in addition to the gluten cake. Or make a gluten-free cake when they are out. Most folks can't tell the difference with cakes if you don't tell them first. Then after everyone enjoys both cakes let them know that one of them was gluten free.
  15. If you took 20 laxitives and have not had a bowel movement you need to get to the hospital. Are you running a fever at all? You say you have gas but is your tummy rumbling? If it is not making noise again get thee to the ER. The rock hard tummy worrys me, do you have diverticulosis? If so go to the ER. Seem a little repititious sorry but I'm a bit...
  16. Your hubby sounds like mine, it took 3 years and the obvious improvement in my childrens and my health to get him to get tested. He is now enjoying not looking 7 months pregnant with enough gas to blow up the Hindenburg and I am enjoying being able to converse with him without having to direct his attention back to the subject at hand multiple times. ...
  17. One of the best things you can do when you are first gluten-free is try to limit the amount of processed foods for a bit. It can make things much less stressfull. To my knowledge all yoplait yogurts are safe but the pringles are a no no. I get Lays stacks they are from a dedicated facility and state no gluten. They are heavily loaded with lots of not...
  18. I agree you should stay gluten free. As to testing your kids please do. I was surprised how much gluten impacted my and my childrens lives in ways I never thought were related. Do test them without hesitation.
  19. For some of us there is a definate 'high' associated with the glutening. It is very much like doing speed. The brain goes into overdrive which causes obsessive and manic thought patterns and abnormal energy levels. When my DS would call with all these grandiose plans the first year after his diagnosis I would always brace for the 'gloom and doom just...
  20. Good catch I forgot about that.
  21. I don't understand them saying that either. Perhaps someone will know but from everything I have read and experienced there are no false positives. There are some idiot doctors that will test after you have been gluten-free and then say 'See thats negative you never had it in the first place'. Regardless of what the doctors say if you feel better off...
  22. I make a quiona salad with cukes, tomatoes, onions and chi chi beans then pour a gluten-free Italian dressing or a mix of rice vinager seaseme oil and a bit of apple juice and fresh basil. It's light and a complete meal and will keep in the fridge for a couple days. I could literally go days without eating and don't remember the last time I felt hungry...
  23. This made me want to cry. I lived off multiple daily doses of the stuff for 15 years. I had to to be able to work. The last 5 years I needed it just to go to the store. Sometimes I wonder, cynic that I am if they put this stuff in stomach preperations on purpose. It gets rid of the symptoms temporarily but insures you'll need it again in a couple day...
  24. I came across this on the B&M website. I was just trying to see if their baked beans were safe and sooo much more also came up that I thought I would share. Ac'cent® Flavor Enhancer B&G®: Pickles, Peppers, Relishes, Capers Sauerkraut, Green & Black Olives B&M® Baked Beans: All Varieties Brer Rabbit®: Molasses – Mild,...
  25. I wanted to correct this. There are no such things as a false positive, there are however false negatives. With gluten if the test is even weakly positive you need to be gluten free.
