ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes even longer. Unfortunately many, too many people in the US have no insurance and if you can't pay your doctor upfront they won't see you. This leaves many who feel they have no option other than the ER because our laws state that they have to treat you regardless of ability to pay unless they are a private hospital. If you are in serious trouble... -
ARCHIVED Worms Maybe?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Heres a wacky suggestion, they make 'doggie diapers' for females in heat. Perhaps they would work, along with the picking up, to prevent infesting the other dogs. If he is reliably housebroken you could have him wear them when he is around the other animals and then take them off when you take him to potty. Of course this would only be feasible if the... -
ARCHIVED What Is Natural Flavorings
ravenwoodglass replied to Dyang's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The iodine is particularly bad for celiacs with DH. I have always instinctively avoided iodized salt, mainly cause my Mom did. I had trouble getting DH sores to heal and realized after taking them for 4 years that my hair and skin supplements had iodine in them. I switched supplements and my last sore is finally healing with no new ones cropping up. -
ARCHIVED Wash Rice Before Cooking
ravenwoodglass replied to Dyang's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I always rinse my rice also in the manner you describe. One important point though - they are fast catching up in the cancer department, interestingly enough this is occuring as the abundance of Western style food is becoming more popular. Due IMHO to an increase in the amount of gluten consumed. -
ARCHIVED My Psychologist Is Interested In Celiac Connection
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Something happened yesterday that brought me to tears and I thought I should share. My DH and I have lived seperately for 15 years now. I have always blamed myself for the split, the mental effects of gluten had me frankly 'nuts' for years and living with me was like living with a time bomb. My DH was always placid and seemed to not be bothered by anything... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Andrew, I don't think you are as well informed as you think you are, with all due respect. I'm wondering at what age you were diagnosed, I suspect it was young enough to avoid some of the problems we late diagnosis folks are dealing with. I was told from childhood that I had IBS, when my son was born he was in the 65th percentile, by a year of age he was... -
ARCHIVED Entrolab Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might want to email the site and ask. One other thing you could do is get the fecal antibody tests done first and wait on the gene testing which is more expensive. Also you recently said you got your first credit card, now that the hospital is forgiving your bill maybe you could use the card for the tests, that way you would be able to pay it off a... -

ARCHIVED Smoke?
ravenwoodglass replied to kalanfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I avoid carmel coloring unless I know for sure, from the company that it is derived from a non-gluten source. It is usually okay but not always as it can come from barley. -
ARCHIVED So My 1st Post Received No Replies, How About This..
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said. There are already a few (unfortunately only a few) that are coming to realize that the US Gold Standard should be called the 'Old Standard'. As stated we are very much behind the times with the diagnosis and testing that is done in this country for celiac. It misses far too many of us. If I had continued... -
ARCHIVED Worms Maybe?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I hope this doesn't mess up your summer too badly. Were you planning on taking him somewhere that has other pets in residence? If not and you are simply wanting to travel with him there could be ways it could be done. The main concern with other animals are that they will either come in contact with his feces or that they would do what doggies do and... -
It may not be the norm but you are not alone. After years of misdiagnosis I was on canadian canes and could barely use my hands. The arthritis in my back, knees and feet made walking close to impossible and getting up and down stairs took a very long and painful time. 6 months before I was finally diagnosed we spent thousands remodeling my home because...

I can't speak for all but in my case the inflamatory reaction in my bloodsteam and the autoimmune response that it caused attacked my pancreas. If I had been diagnosed promptly with celiac I would not have developed diabetes or arthritis. Celiac and the bodies immune response to a poison that infiltrates the bloodstream and thus all organs and tissues was...

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
ravenwoodglass replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Perhaps her recent childbirth will do the trick. I think there a quite a few undiagnosed or diagnosed a silent celiacs in the entertainment industry. So many thin women many with little belly bulges, and others who fight a weight battle constantly like Fergie. Many of the actors are shorter than average and many seem to have those lovely 'celiac' eyes... -
This is quite high but you don't need to worry too much about it until you talk to your doctor on Monday. One thing I would suggest is that if you are taking a vitamin with iron in it that you discontinue that at least until you talk to the doctor. There are folks that have a genetic predisposition to very high iron levels and they are treated by simply...

ARCHIVED Really Bad Joint Pain...
ravenwoodglass replied to Elizabeth-Elindel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For myself this pain and the resulting arthritic joint damage came from gluten. I was diagnosed with fibro and chronic fatigue at one point also. It took a few months for the joint and muscle pain to resolve and of course the joint damage itself is permanent but my rather ugly hands are now fully functioning and pain free. The only time I have joint or... -
ARCHIVED Worms Maybe?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To check for parasites you need to bring a stool sample into your doctor. If you call their office they will give containers for the samples and instructions for collection. I would also tell them what type of worms your dog was treated for. I can understand your fears under the circumstances but DO NOT take anything unless parasites are found by your... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lots of great points here. One thing I do want to mention in addition is that gluten crosses the mucosal membranes. It can be absorbed into the blood stream through the nose, mouth, vagina, and rectum. In some countries they use suppositories and biopsy the rectal mucosa for diagnosis. Much less traumatic on the system as no challenge is needed because... -
I strongly agree with the author on this. My doctor has confirmed that my recent diagnosis of diabetes was a direct result of my misdiagnosis for years when the problem was celiac. I have seen the mental effects of undiagnosed celiac in myself and others, including strong Schizophrenic ideation in one of my children with a resolution of mental difficulties...

To say I am an anti-gluten crusader would be an understatement. I am continually appalled at the lack of knowledge and understanding in our pharmasociety and will talk about celiac to anyone, anywhere at any time. The ignorance of our medical professionals is criminal. They turn us into neurotic, pill popping, human beings who can barely get by from one...

Fantastic news from the hospital! That has got to be a big relief. Hope things improve in other areas soon. -

ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This happens to my son when he comes in contact with his girlfriends non-gluten free cosmetics. It also occured when he would share 'combustibles' with freinds who were smoking cigs or drinking non gluten-free beverages. Lister eat the eggs every day again for a few days. It took 3 days before you felt bad before so it may take 3 days before... -
ARCHIVED What's In Your Olive Oil?
ravenwoodglass replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually this is a pretty standard thing for a cook to do. It raises the flash point of the olive oil. It is always a good idea to ask the server to ask the cook if they do this if it is a concern. -
ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lister, I haven't been on board much so this is a little tardy but anyway. You added the eggs to your diet and you felt better for about 3 days, this is about the time frame for an intolerance reaction. I would suggest dropping the eggs for a couple of weeks and substitute another high protein source in the morning. You may simply have an intolerance...
