ARCHIVED Yet Another Female Issue...
ravenwoodglass replied to Ashley's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can tell you that this is not TSS. You would feel very ill and be running a high fever with TSS. First off make sure you are using a tampon that is NOT perfumed. Tampax was always a safe brand back before celiac took away my periods. I would get a rash with ones like playtex. It sounds like you may be experiencing muscle spasms. This can keep you... -
ARCHIVED Where Am I Going Wrong?
ravenwoodglass replied to Zell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten is most often a delayed reaction. Check not just what you ate right before you felt ill check the foods from 1 to 3 days before also. The delay from an intolerance reaction can make pinpointing what 'got' you a bit tough at times. I hope you feel better soon. -
The only time I had relief from my D before going gluten-free was for 3 days after my prep for the useless coloscopy they did. The doctor thought I was a nut cause I asked him if I could use the prep once a week. It was another year and a half before they found the celiac, the GI never even looked for it until after I had done an elimination diet and the...

You'll be fine. Please make certain the barium they use on the 17th is gluten-free. Demand they check to be sure and make them put it in writing. As an aside are they doing this procedure to confirm celiac or to check for other problems? If it is to look for celiac they are going in from the wrong end. They need to go to the small intestine to find celiac...

ARCHIVED Uncomfortable (literally) Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you lived in Europe they would biopsy a bit of your rectal tissue to confirm the celiac. Gluten effects the mucous membranes. If everyone with hemmies went off gluten they would in most cases be gone. What you are feeling is the mucosal tissues reaction to the gluten passing out of your system. This effect can also be caused by gluten contamination... -
ARCHIVED Sorry If This Posted Before..couldn't Find It -
ravenwoodglass replied to Sara-UK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sara and welcome. You may not be sick all the time......yet. Things will improve and you have come to a great place for support. Please bear in mind the addictive nature of gluten and that you will experience some degree of withdrawl from it which most likely will include strong cravings. This will pass. If you have KinniKnick (sp?) bread available... -
I hope the endocrinologist can shed some light on why these results are as they are. Did they check your B12 and Folate levels as well? It does look like you have some anemia going on. Have they run another celiac panel on you, if you showed up on earlier ones? Are you positive any OTC, prescription drugs and non-food items are gluten-free? Some of your...

this is a good basic starter list that a freind on another board made up and gave me permission to copy. I thought she did a great job on it and it is well worth sharing. I hope it helps. Here's the basics for a simple gluten free trial. It involves no specialty products. fresh fruit fresh veggies nuts and seeds (unflavored) fresh (unbreaded...

ARCHIVED High Cholesterol, Hyperglycemia....
ravenwoodglass replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First (((((((hugs)))))) If your doctor has not suggested it you might want to get a blood sugar meter. Check your sugar often for a couple of weeks in the morning and before and after meals. I found that to be the easiest way to tell when I was eating right when they first diagnosed me with diabetes. Make sure when you eat any carbs that you also eat... -
ARCHIVED Less Than 0.02% Gluten In Minute Made Frozen Lemonade
ravenwoodglass replied to Tori's Dad's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't touch it. -
ARCHIVED If Gluten-intolerant/what Do You Tell Medical People?
ravenwoodglass replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'd watch what they gave me too------as they take the full tray away and I pull out my gluten-free stash of food. I've worked in a hospital's nutritional services dept and would never trust them to feed me or my kids. Even if they know how to feed us the CC issue is just too much for me. -
ARCHIVED High Ttg After "gluten Free" Hospital Stay
ravenwoodglass replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would contact the head of the hospital in writing and include copies of the test. If you have copies of her tests preadmission send those also. You also should at the same time send a copy of the administrators letter to the nutritional services dept and to your insurance company. I would not be nasty but I would go into detail about the ill effects... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Hair Products
ravenwoodglass replied to M-3 Gal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For sure for me it causes problems. I'll lose hair by the handfull and get lots of itchy spots. It can also get gluten in to your system which will impair your bodies healing. You should avoid it in everything you come in contact with. -
ARCHIVED Pins And Needles
ravenwoodglass replied to covsooze's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have they checked your B12 levels? It might be a good idea or you could get some sublingual B12 and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED Temprature
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also run a consistently low body temp. Thyroid has been tested repeatedly with no real issues. Some folks just normally run a bit cooler than others. Temps also differ throughout the day. This is also normal. My guess would be that your body is trying to remove toxins, drink lots of water and let yourself sweat. This isn't a high enough elevation... -
No It's not in your head. Some do get relief from IBS symptoms quickly, others do not. There are a lot of false negatives on blood tests, there are also doctors who will see a low positive and tell you it's negative. The true test is how you feel on the diet.

ARCHIVED Angry With My Mum
ravenwoodglass replied to taz sharratt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In my family the blame was layed solely on my shoulders for years after my diagnosis. I had always been the one who was mentally ill, the crazy Mom who wanted to be sick. My DD even accused me of poisoning her for 2 years when she was at her worst. She was sick because I was depressed and 'a hypocondriac'. After she went to college she got a GI to tell... -
ARCHIVED Fyi: American Celiac Disease Alliance
ravenwoodglass replied to Turtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just did the survey also. Make sure you click on the 'take action' in the center of the survey not the top. -
Your drugstore should have glucose tablets that diabetics use when their sugar gets too low. They could help. Something else that might help is adding more protein into your diet. I have diabetes as a result of the undiagnosed celiac and I keep a bag with a mix of gluten free nuts, some raisens and some gluten free bittersweet chocolate on hand and snack...

ARCHIVED Fingers And Hands Sweilling
ravenwoodglass replied to Felidae's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For me this can definately be linked to gluten. I also get swollen feet. I have lost almost 2 shoe sizes since diagnosis. I still get a bit of swelling from the heat but nothing like gluten caused. -
ARCHIVED Mascara Brands gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You have mucous membranes in the lining of your eyes and gluten can cross the mucous membranes. This is in addition to the problems mentioned by Debmidge. IMHO anything that touches your body or can be inhaled needs to be gluten-free, not just your food. -
ARCHIVED Pos Biospsy Now Dr Says Its Not Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to dahams04's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are NO FALSE POSITIVES on biopsies, you are correct on that. There are many false negatives in the blood tests even with full blown almost dead celiac. I was one of those. IMHO I would get him back on the gluten free diet and let this doctor fund his next vacation with someone else's money. -
ARCHIVED Actual Blood Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Nikki2003's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
These look quite high to me, especially the IgE and the TTG. If she is not gluten free yet she needs to be and if she is she appears to still be getting gluten somewhere. -
ARCHIVED Went To Internist (rude/skeptical) For Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to averyannsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also make sure they run a B12 and ferritin and folate levels. -
