ARCHIVED Celiac Disease + Child Abuse
ravenwoodglass replied to Jay Silverman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When children are growing physically and mentally it is very important that this toxin be removed. The damage they stand to suffer is permanent when it comes to growth difficulties. The emotional damage they may suffer when hormones hit and combine with the neuro effects of gluten can impair their ability to function socially. IMHO this is definately a... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone On Here Forget That They Have celiac disease Most Of The Time?
ravenwoodglass replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't dwell on it, but there is no way I can not think about it. When I look at my hands it reminds me, when I stumble or have to catch myself because I got a trace amount somewhere, when I look at my family and all the damage celiac did to our bodies and relationships I am reminded. When I pick up my blood sugar test kit I am reminded. When everyone... -
ARCHIVED Complaining Again
ravenwoodglass replied to taz sharratt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This may sound strange but ..... is your hubby gluten-free? Could you be reacting to a kiss after he has been consuming gluten? -
ARCHIVED Breaking News: Routine Screening For Celiac Disease Not Always Beneficial
ravenwoodglass replied to hineini's topic in Publications & Publicity
My first thought was who funded these studies (this study)? Is it the NIH pushing for screening that they are disagreeing with? I noticed they mentioned one group that was recommending the screen like it was a bunch of folks playing poker in the back room that thought up the idea. $500,000 to diagnose, excuse me how bout just recommending a dietary trial... -
I am sorry but this is a misconception. Shampoos and all toiletries need to be gluten free. I clearly get DH sores from using none gluten free stuff along with systemic signs of CC. I make sure everything is gluten-free. I use Arm and Hammer detergents and fabric softeners, Giovanni or BWC (beauty without cruelty) Shampoo and even check my pet foods...

ARCHIVED Good Seasons Italian Salad Dressing
ravenwoodglass replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is not a concern for everyone but because I react to grain vinagers I will call if distilled vinager is listed and it's source isn't given. Many do not react to distilled grains in alcohol or vinagers but 2 in my family do so I always check. -
ARCHIVED Floaters And Antibiotics And Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Byte Me's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Something you may want to check for is diabetes, just to be on the safe side. They can be associated with complications (retinal problems) from uncontrolled sugar. I used to get these all the time, another thing that has gone away gluten free. I hadn't even realized I hadn't had one in years until I saw this post. -
ARCHIVED Sed Rate
ravenwoodglass replied to 7mommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Personally I would get the older child gluten-free also no matter what testing shows. If his body is not absorbing the nutrients it needs that alone can cause the weird cravings (pica) that you are seeing. That would also cause him to be hungrey all the time as he is not absorbing the nutrients and calories he needs from his food his body will be constantly... -
ARCHIVED Does Wine Have Gluten In It?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The wines that are vegetarian don't use casein. There was a thread a while back that may have given some brands, maybe you could try a search to find them or ask at your local liquor store. Not being able to be comfortable in social 'eating' situations can be tough. It is hard not to feel isolated. I would still meet with my friend, I would just... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Seizures?
ravenwoodglass replied to imsohungry's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed with subilleal seizures and took some very toxic meds for a long time. I have had no seizures since becoming gluten-free. My DD also used to have petit mal seizures, these were gluten related for her also. -
ARCHIVED Does Wine Have Gluten In It?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea it was most likely the salad. Even a crumb can get us as well as the dressing. I bring by own. Make sure the vodka is potato vodka though, many of us can tolerate gluten grain alcohol but many of us can't. -
ARCHIVED Need Some Help
ravenwoodglass replied to mike2184's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pick up some heavy duty B vitamins also. Sublingual B12 may be of particular help with the neuro issues. Make sure your vitamins and other meds are gluten-free and also all toiletries, lotions, girlfreinds lipstick et al. -
ARCHIVED Which Kind Of Arthritis Is Related To Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It can take a while for the new topic to show up, but it will. You should print out the NIH websites info on celiac and bring it into your doctor. It is not rare and he needs to politely educated. -
ARCHIVED Which Kind Of Arthritis Is Related To Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Although the symptoms of my arthritis were more like RA than osteo they also told me it was osteo. The joint damage never changed but my pain level has. I can use all joints freely with no discomfort and no continuation of the rapid joint destruction I had pre gluten free. I believe many forms of arthritis can be linked to celiac and the inflammatory... -
Lister the cysts are most likely gluten related. It sounds like you are getting glutened somewhere.

ARCHIVED What's The Deal With Soy?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, for right now you may want to read the posts about it but I wouldn't even try to eliminate it until you have been gluten-free for a little while. If after a couple of months gluten-free/CF you are still having troubles then maybe consider eliminating soy and see if it helps. Many of us have troubles with soy, and there is some conflicting research out... -
ARCHIVED Test I Had A Few Years Ago....maybe A Clue?
ravenwoodglass replied to dellatigre's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think what you may want to do is to contact Great Smokies themselves. They should be able to tell you what the test is specific for. Are you gluten free yet? -
ARCHIVED Pro Plan Dry Dog Food And Toddler
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We switched our animals to a totally grain free food, Evo by Innova, their response has been great. Their coats are better, less shedding, less vomiting for one who was a throw up king, and best of all I don't have to sterilize the kitchen whenever I cook anything. If you can switch foods that would be great for you and the dog. -
ARCHIVED Shocking Story
ravenwoodglass replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cindy I just wanted to let you know the prayers are still coming your way. I sincerely hope this is resolved soon and the kids are back home where they should be. -
ARCHIVED Sick In The Morning
ravenwoodglass replied to Chrisser's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Make sure that box says gluten free on it. The puffins cereals that are safe clearly say gluten free on the box. The others are wheat free but not gluten free. Also check all your toiletries etc. for gluten you may be reacting to something you came in contact with a day or two before, gluten is a delayed reaction for many. I hope you get some relief... -
ARCHIVED How Much Gluten Before Blood Test? Please Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to hineini's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In more medically advanced and less pharmacologically dependent countries this would be diagnostic enough. Especially with the reaction you described in your other post. You can of course continue the challenge as I described in response to your other post before I saw this one but I believe your body has already answered the question. If I relyed I my... -
ARCHIVED This Is Hell :(
ravenwoodglass replied to hineini's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This post illustrates why it is so very important to use a whole food to do a gluten challenge. You need to challenge with a food that has only the ingredient you are challenging. Eat cream of wheat or shredded wheat for the gluten challenge and eat something like unflavored soy nuts for the soy challenge and make sure you do them at least a couple of weeks... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
ravenwoodglass replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
He sounds like mine, mine was also losing patches of hair and was grossly overweight at about 26 lbs. We changed to the Evo dog food and suddenly that was all he would eat, He wouldn't even eat the canned food anymore. So we had my health food store order the grain free for cats and he has stopped vomiting at least 6 times a day (and boy does that get... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Celiac Brain, Can It Be Done ?
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had severe neurological impairment due to the celiac. It took a while for my neuropathies to go away and for my ataxia to improve (not gone but liveable I can walk now) and for my memory function to return to normal but they did. It took about 6 months to see a noticable improvement but the day I ran up the stairs without thinking about it I cryed like... -
