ARCHIVED My Psychologist Is Interested In Celiac Connection
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am hoping by relating my families experience that your doctor will not just test the people with 'tummy problems'. Our family all manifested first with depression long before GI troubles became anything more than annoyances. I have been celiac since childhood. The first symptom I suffered was DH that covered almost my entire legs, arms and face and... -
ARCHIVED Life Is Finally Starting To Brighten
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to agree with Nini on this one. You may want to start with the buy here - pay here car first as that will do a much better job of building your credit. Also you may run into problems with getting help on your medical bills if a credit check shows you obtained a credit card shortly after incurring your medical debt. They may figure if you can afford... -

ARCHIVED Life Is Finally Starting To Brighten
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so glad your feeling better. You have gotten some great advice food wise here. You must be so relieved about that hospital bill. It's horrible when you have stuff like that hanging over your head. And while your saving the world make sure you do something nice for yourself too. You have gotten through a real rough patch, but there is a light... -

One more reason to add to the list of why I want to visit my ancestral home. I don't suppose you could get his recipe? I am so glad for you that you found this place and I am sure you will visit it often. -

Because you won't be giving them any more money after you go gluten free, you won't need them. -
ARCHIVED Did This Happen To You..
ravenwoodglass replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't had any craving for gluten since about a month after I started the diet. For me though I was so sick from it and still get horribly ill from CC that it would be akin to craving rat poison. I can honestly say I don't miss gluten food in the slightest. I was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and at a doctors appointment I mentioned I was having... -

Then the doctor needs to be notified that the nurse gave this info to your girlfreind. She broke the law and should lose her job. -
ARCHIVED Please Help With Me Understand My Daughters Results...
ravenwoodglass replied to vicp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off I am delighted to here that your DD was tested as a routine test. I am dancing around the chair right now. You are so lucky they found this now. As to the symptom issue there may be things that you think are 'normal' that really are not. In addition to the tummy aches, and no not everyone has them, you may find that she becomes less 'moody... -
ARCHIVED Semi Productive Doctocter Conversation
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How did your doctor do your 3 month check up by talkiing on the phone to your girlfreind? I can't even get info on my grown children from their doctor unless I am standing with them in front of him. We have really strict privacy laws in place for medical issues, at least in my state. I thought they were nationwide. If this occurred you need to find... -

I would agree but I am no expert either. She should try to be gluten-free to know for sure. -
ARCHIVED In Need Of A gluten-free Laxative
ravenwoodglass replied to sparkles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you uncomfortable? If the answer is no then don't worry about it. Everyones system is different and it takes differing amounts of time to move everything through. You may want to up your intake of fruits and veggies and increase your water intake but if possible you need to avoid laxitives. If you are expelling what looks like rabbit turds or you... -
ARCHIVED Night Terrors/fear/paraoid
ravenwoodglass replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, and for me the anxiety and obsessive thoughts continue when awake. It helps me that I know it is the gluten and will go away but it doesn't really make things easier when it is occurring. I do my best when this happens to stay away from the news and avoid murder or horror stories and I do what you did I call someone. I don't always express my fears... -
Hormel has come out with a totally gluten and preservative free line of lunch meats. They are in a brown cardboard type package and are marked gluten-free. In addition their pepperoni is also gluten-free.

Buckwheat is great. I loved cream of wheat and the hot buckwheat cereal is so much like it. So good for much more than pillows. -

To make the epsom bath even nicer you can make it a scented salt very simply. You just need the salt, your favorite essential oil and a bit of food coloring, gluten-free of course. Put the salt in quart size glass jar. Then mix together just a bit of the food coloring and about 3 or 4 drops of the oil. Then just add the colored oil mix to the salt. When... -
ARCHIVED Beano Commercial Mentions Whole Grain Breads
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Or how about the Shredded wheat commercial that says to eat 2 bowls of this poison a day to loose weight. Or my personal non-favorite the mini wheat sitting on a microphone prompting a kid in a spelling bee and saying she would do her best after a nice brain fog producing breakfast. Have you noticed how often these 'whole grain' commercials are followed... -
ARCHIVED Can Beer Do This?
ravenwoodglass replied to dwaters800's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes it is most likely the gluten. I get the brain fog and stuff soon after consumption but my D takes a few days. He also needs to be made aware that for people that don't drink all the time drinking a large amount can be fatal. A freind lost his son after just a couple months at college. All he was drinking was beer but he passed out and aspirated his... -
ARCHIVED 'back Muscle Spams'

Hi, you said the attack happened late at night. Were you asleep when it occured? People do not have anxiety attacks in their sleep. Did your doctor do a urinalysis? When glutened I now get bad back pain that is from my kidneys and they will throw microscopic and at times visable blood. Just wanted to make sure your doctor covers all bases. -

"On the day of the flush you eat lightly until early afternoon when you stop eating anything. At 6pm take a teaspoon of epsom salts in warm water, which while relaxing bile ducts, is also an osmotic laxative(this makes it different to table/kosher salt) which helps clear away waste from small intestine. Then another teaspoon of epsom salts in warm water at... -
ARCHIVED Who Has High Cholesterol?
ravenwoodglass replied to lindalee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mine has always been abnormally low for my diet. I attribute that to 15 solid years of D. However my heart looks like my numbers had been high. It had gone up to 168 last time it was checked. -
Are you baking the potato in the skin on the rack in your oven where gluten foods have been cooked?
-
In addition to the previous excellent advice one thing that also helped us was (if you are okay with dairy) add 2 Carnation Instant breakfast packets (the ready made is not gluten-free nor is chocolate malt) to a glass of milk them add your favorite gluten-free ice cream. I would have one with breakfast and one before bed. They are over 500 calories each...

ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
ravenwoodglass replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, I was only able to access part of the article and got an error message when I tried to go for the whole thing. At least we know they exist. I did find an article that explains what it is people are actually seeing when they do a cleanse involving epsom salts, olive oil and one other ingredient I won't mention cause I don't want people to try it... -
ARCHIVED New Therapy For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Claire's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The only problem with this is that it does not address the absorption of the gluten by the mucous membranes. By the time the gluten gets too the stomach it's too late anyway. It may show promise as far as relieving the GI components of celiac disease but the toxin would still be entering the bloodstream through the mucous membranes and effecting the brain...
