I'm not gonna lie, I want one, too.

I've learned the hard way about the chips in Mexican restaurants... more than once. I admit. Now if there's ONE thing I'm particular about in Mexican restaurants, I ask about the chips, haha. I've considered brining my own and asking for a separate dish of salsa, but frankly, most places I can't have the chips, I can't have anything else, either. I know most...

You know, I can certainly understand the fear of making someone who is so sensitive to such a common food ingredient a big Thanksgiving feast. I can understand not wanting to make someone sick on accident, or think something was free of the offending ingredient, but turns out it was hidden somehow. The gluten-free diet is incredibly overwhelming for even...

Long story short, I live with my boyfriend, who is for the most part understanding and careful in the kitchen. He does bring some gluten into the house, but it's pretty sparingly, and as long as he cleans up the mess I'm really not opposed. However, his parents are now empty nesters and they come over for a visit approximately once a week. They're really...

Could it be the caffeine? Do you notice this effect with other caffeinated drinks? I for one cannot tolerate regular coffee anymore. It wrecks my stomach, too, and I notice similar feelings with other heavily caffeinated beverages. Even more than a cup of decaf or so gives me a lot of issues. I can have black teas once and a while, because the caffeine...

I don't get them a lot, but I had one recently. I don't remember much except that I started eating greasy college pizza, and that it was a few minutes before I realized that I'd get sick. It's like I just totally forgot I couldn't eat pizza... Usually though, I get the type of dream in which I feel very conflicted. I'll be in some situation where I need...

ARCHIVED gluten-free "cards" For Iphone Or Ipod Touch!
DarkIvy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yesterday I was browsing the iTunes application shop, and guess what? There is now a downloadable (FREE!) application that has all the gluten-free dining cards on one big thing. It even has a few languages on it that I can't even identify, so it's pretty complete. It's called "Gluten Free Dining Cards", and basically, you can just pick the language you... -
ARCHIVED 10 Year Old Copipng W/out Gluten
DarkIvy replied to Rachella's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have a Whole Foods nearby? They usually have a couple different gluten-free sections. There are crackers, cookies, and tons of other stuff. I also swear by their house brand baking mixes: pizza crust, chocolate cake, white cake... yum! They run about $3-4 a box, too, which isn't much different than what you'd pay for a gluteny baking mix. Their bread... -

No magic pill, unfortunately. I take a probiotic, though, which seems to help. I also just sort of baby myself whenever I get sick. Lots of sleep, good (safe!!) food, and good old fashioned couch potato laziness for a few days. Tylenol is good for pain, it shouldn't hurt your stomach, whereas Ibuprofen can. As for the itchiness, I get that, too. It... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Love At The Polls
DarkIvy replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The polls were silent by the time I made it in. But I think the majority of everyone did early voting in my area... But I found out that one of my co-workers mom also has celiac! -
ARCHIVED Awful Cattarh - Could It Be Detox?
DarkIvy replied to Bell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel you... giving up gluten was easy compared to even the thought of giving up dairy, IMO. I love cheese and milky tea, too! Last week I had a nasty stomach virus and my doctor had me on an all liquid diet, plus crackers and bland food. She made it very clear that I could not have dairy OR soy. She suggested rice milk, which I actually liked a lot,... -
It's awesome that your family is being so supportive. You're very lucky to have that! Eating out is always kind of a challenge, and for me I've learned that every restaurant is different and needs a different approach. I'm picky. When in doubt I ask for the chef or the manager. Just because there is a gluten free menu at a place doesn't mean I necessarily...

Ugh, me too. ALL the drinks I had were in clean, disposable containers. The jello shots at my friend's place were in dixie cups, and I took regular mixed drinks in new solo cups. The woodchuck came in a bottle, obviously, and the jello shots at the bar were in clear, plastic, disposable containers. I didn't have any "regular" drinks at the bar, so sloppy...

It's my senior year and I wanted to go out with all my friends and not miss out on the "festivities" on Friday, which included a house party and bar hopping afterwards. I so rarely have time to go out anyway, so I wanted to have a lot of fun. There were jello shots, someone had Woodchuck (score!) and a played beer pong... but my partner had to drink my share...

That's really not fair to you, and very frustrating. I'd be on a rampage if it were me. Frankly, if someone is a guest in someone else's home, I think it's common courtesy to simply go by the rules of the house. Period. If you said the top shelf is off limits and no bread on the counters, they should have respected that. The fact that you've got a disease...

I refused to eat at Subway, and most other sandwich places as well. I *liked* the food, but for some reason the thought of eating it made me feel queasy. It had to be a really outstanding sandwich in order for me to order it somewhere. I liked paninis a lot, but they tasted better than the other crap, so I think I was just able to get over my queasy feeling...

I love and have always loved the smell of bread, or any other baked goods as long as I can remember. In fact, sometimes I've fount that I love the smell more than I like eating what caused the smell It might be an emotional thing, though. When I was really little, my dad took later shifts so he could stay home with my sister and I during the day. If...

I tend to be the same way. Last year I'd cave once and a while and eat "real" pizza with my friends with no issue. But if I ate gluten every day for several days (like I did whenever I left the country or because of CC issues in the sorority house) I was always sick, had D, throwing up, super fatigued, depressed, and anxious. All the same, it's been... -
ARCHIVED Ladies, What Facial Wash And Moisturizer Do You Use
DarkIvy replied to cat3883's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've never tried the peppermint kind before. The Lavender one is pretty mild, and it works really well on the face. Try using just a drop or two with water, I bet that would be much more gentle than peppermint. I'm currently into the citrus kind, which is a touch stronger but I still don't have issues. I usually just use enough to lather on my face and then... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Needs College Roommate In Fl Fall 09
DarkIvy replied to Cath4k's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you're that concerned about it, I'd probably just count on getting either a single apartment with kitchen on campus, or getting her a place off campus right off the bat, unless by some miracle you do find her another celiac to live with. That said, even if you do find another celiac, it seems like you guys are very, very, very strict. What if you had... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Needs College Roommate In Fl Fall 09
DarkIvy replied to Cath4k's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As a college student, here's my .02: Having a gluten-free roommate will be darn near impossible to find. If it happens, AWESOME, but let's be real. The odds of that happening are incredibly slim. I would think that having a gluten-free roommate wouldn't be all that necessary, especially if you can't get her into a room with a kitchen. I've lived in... -

I'm actually not a new celiac... and I know I don't react to distilled gluten grains. I usually stick to vodka, rum, gin, tequila, or sake. Whiskey's the one thing that still really freaks me out to try, but I didn't like it before I was diagnosed so there's no point in me trying it anyway. It's malted or something, right? Seems sketchy. I guess my main... -
ARCHIVED Should I Deliberately Gluten Myself

If you plan to stay gluten free post endoscopy anyway, and you're doing it for other reasons, I would stay gluten free. There's no use in making yourself sick for a month! -
ARCHIVED How Does One Safely Barhop?
DarkIvy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's the predicament: I'm in college. I recently turned 21. I know what kinds of alcohol are safe and what's not, but what about all the extras? What's in triple sec? I just read somewhere else that the sodas from the "tap" thing (you know, the tube with all the buttons that the bartender just pushes the correct button to get the correct soda...
