  1. ^ You could also search facebook. My university has a facebook group on celiac and that seems to be a good way to find others in your area. There are also some huge global celiac/gluten free groups on facebook and members in your network will be listed first if you click the link to see the members. I can definitely relate to a lot of things you're going...
  2. My boyfriend just bought me the starter kit (as a surprise! I've been eyeing it for ages... he even managed to get the right color!) about a week ago. It's incredible stuff. I'm not much for cakey makeup, and I hate looking "fake", so this stuff is perfect. The starter kit runs about $60 and comes with three brushes, a moisturizer, two foundation colors,...
  3. I was recently in a friend's dorm room and my friends were asking me how my gluten-free diet was going. I replied that I was okay with it except that I missed eat pizza, and that I went over to someone's house the night before and everyone was eating pizza smothered in ranch dressing while I sipped a coke. One of the girls in my room, a sorority sister of...
  4. I don't know anything specific, last time I was there was before I went gluten free. I would guess nearly anywhere you go in the touristy areas you'll be able to find something... it's very service oriented and since everyone is trying to attract clients away from all the other places, they all seem willing to go out on a limb for customers. I'm guessing...
  5. Wow, that's a shame about Illegal Pete's, steveindenver. I like them best. Great Northern is excellent, but I haven't been there since before I went gluten free. I'm staying verrrry close to there, so I should give it a shot. I actually called Cosmo's Pizza in Boulder last night to suggest that they get a gluten free crust alternative, and the guy on...
  6. Wow, I can't believe how long this list is already getting. I LOVE Beau Jo's. I've only been there once- at the Fort Collins location- and didn't have any issues. I love pizza, so it's nice to actually order it in a restaurant! Hez, I spend a lot of time in Fort Collins, since my family lives there. We should start a Fort Collins listing, too! I never...
  7. Hey all! I've been spending some time in Denver, and I've been eating out quite a bit more than I normally do at home. I haven't actually had any problems yet, and I was surprised that some of the restaurants were as excellent as they were. So, here are some reviews... Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen I went to the location in Greenwood Village/ Englewood...
  8. Thanks guys, for the input. I've decided to go ahead and keep the appointment... why not, I suppose. We'll see what happens!
  9. I've been wondering about this, too. I had my appendix out nearly 12 years ago, long before I ever went gluten free. My dad suspects I've had gluten issues since I was six or seven, and I was eight when I had my appendix removed. I don't really know what to make of all this, but my dad just keeps saying I've had basically the same kinds of symptoms and attitudes...

There's a huge difference between being high maintenance because one is just picky and being "high maintenance" because you have a severe medical issue with a certain group of foods. I think most anyone in their right minds would be able to tell the difference. As long as your date understands that you're not just being picky for the sake of being picky or...
  11. I think you may be right about just talking to the professors in the beginning and leaving it at that. I've found that open communication is usually the best thing you can do when it comes to school... if you come right out and talk to the professors right from the start of things, they're usually more open to cutting you some slack. Besides, I'm not sure...
  12. Ohh 504... Basically that's what our school calls "disability". I'll be a junior, I won't be living in the dorms anymore, so I don't have to worry about that. I looked up my schools policy on this sort of thing and didn't see anything even LIKE celiac listed on the website. Mainly it's for students who are ADD or "learning disabled" and need test taking accomodations...
  13. I've never heard of the 504 plan... what is it? Would it be directly through the school? I'm thinking it might not matter to have to school get involved, as I'll be in a sorority house and each house basically runs itself. All special accomodations are made through the chapter itself, and the university doesn't get directly involved with anything. The...
  14. I've been dealing with sinus infections since I was in 6th grade, or roughly 8 years. Eventually they became chronic and doctors even stopped perscribing antibiotics since they never did any good anyway. I was just told to take 4 ibuprofen and some decongestants when things got bad, or get surgery. I was pretty surprised when going gluten free helped clear...

  16. Today I FINALLY got the endoscopy done. I guess it went alright... not like I remember too much of anything. Mom says I woke up and asked "where is the dog?" but I don't even remember that. We don't even HAVE a dog! They gave me some papers with pictures of everything they saw and some reccomendations. The actual biopsy results will come back in a week...
  17. This brand of baked goods is always frozen... at least at every Whole Foods I've been too. These foods are made in a specialty, dedicated gluten free bakery and the products are shipped everywhere nationwide. I believe that's part of why they keep it frozen. I don't think it would affect the texture much... after all if you freeze regular wheat bread and...
  18. I recently bought the Whole Foods gluten-free bakehouse "sandwhich bread". Not the best, but believe it or not I've had worse. I probably won't buy it again. However, I DO reccomend the gluten-free Bakehouse chocolate chip cookies... they are fantastic! Unfortunately, I haven't tried many breads yet. Nothing worth suggesting, that's for sure. I keep hearing...

Oh I know... isn't it incredible how these supposed specialists can be so, well, stupid?? It's as if they all get stuck on one or two conditions and think nothing else is possible, and that since we (as non doctors) are stupid to assume we know anything about our own bodies. Any research we might have done is useless, since we don't have a phd. In other...
  20. I think this is probably the hardest part of having celiac... there's so much to learn and change within your life that it can be really overwhelming. The best thing you can do for yourself is ask lots of questions about the food your eating, but that can be SO hard at first. When I first went gluten free, it was easier to go to restaurants than eat in my...
  21. A positive biopsy result is the most "real" diagnosis you can possibly get. There can be false negatives, even with the endoscopy, but if the biopsy is positive, you don't need any further testing. Usually, though, they give you bloodwork BEFORE the biopsy. If I were you I'd call the doctor and ask him/her exactly what they looked for in the biopsy. Ask if...
  22. A few nights ago I used some fish sauce that definitely listed wheat as an ingredient (no worries, I'm supposed to be on gluten now). My boyfriend's family is Taiwanese. I've spent enough time eating out with them to know that there's just as much hidden gluten in Asian food as there is American. Keep an eye out. As a general rule, I don't eat much unless...
  23. First of all, a weak positive blood test is STILL a positive result. Keep in mind that many celiacs actually had negative bloodwork and needed to have the biopsy to prove it at all. The fact that you have had any positive signs at all is in a way a blessing. Your diagnosis might be easier that way. I recently read a celiac cookbook that said something to...
  24. I live in Colorado, but I spend most of my time in the Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins area. I've only ever driven through Eagle, and that was well before I ever needed to worry about finding gluten free food. I do know that they probably have a Safeway and/or King Soopers. They usually have a a health food section where you can find some gluten free items. They...

See, I'm pretty sure this was a different kind of form. The receptionist explained that the policy was anyone not on the list would not be given any information, so if I WANTED someone to be able to call on my behalf, I should list them. That's exactly why I listed my parents. Granted, I have the right to privacy if I so chose, I figured in case of any confusion...
