ARCHIVED Acid Reflux Or Gerd
buffettbride replied to bear6954's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What we thought was GERD in our daughter who was 9 at the time was what actually led us to the Celiac diagnosis. Are you sure what you gave him was gluten-free? One of her biggest glutening symptoms is hard burping/hiccups with food coming back up (but not quite throwing up all the way). When it happens, we usually get her to eat something we know... -
Head Lice!
buffettbride replied to dollamasgetceliac?'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter picked up a case at Girl Scout camp a few years ago. She's a Celiac, and I'm not super into chemicals, so we got ourselves a really good lice comb and went through her hair strand-by strand every day for ten days to get it out. No special shampoos or chemicals, just a lot of diligence. In the process I transferred it to myself (the lice, that... -
ARCHIVED Pregnant And Hungry
buffettbride replied to skichikk18's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
We're big into Mission corn tortillas for Quesadillas right now. We toss in some Hormel Natural Choice chicken chunks and some spicy ranch dressing and that is good, too. If you can get yourself some Kinnickinnick pizza crust, it makes delicious cheese bread. I've even coated it in butter cooking spray and cinnamon/sugar mixture and cooked for about ... -

ARCHIVED Reminding Teachers
buffettbride replied to buffettbride's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm really going to work the education angle rather than the scolding angle. I don't see how that does anyone any good. She's in middle school so she changes classes for each subject. I can totally see how it just doesn't occur to people that food occasions are a lot more work for some. I don't let her keep candy in her locker and since she doesn't have a... -
ARCHIVED Applebee's Fries
buffettbride replied to BelievinMiracles's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Chances are, even if the fries themselves didn't have gluten, they were cooked in a fryer with chicken strips or other gluten products, resulting in contamination. Did you let your server know of your gluten-free requirements? -
ARCHIVED Reminding Teachers
buffettbride posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I sent a lovely letter to each of my daughter's teachers on the first day of school to let them know about Celiac Disease, what Victoria might need to do (leave class for the bathroom) if glutened at school, and to give us some notice if there were to be any food occasions at school. Each teacher replied and thanked me for letting me know and assured... -
ARCHIVED Yoplait Kids?
buffettbride replied to purplemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As far as I know, Yoplait will clearly list all gluten and not hide it in natural or artifical flavors, so if it isn't on the label, then it isn't in there. My family exclusively buys Yoplait products, specifically the regular yogurt and the drinkable smoothies for kids (Dora, Blues Clues, Diego...) and never had any problems with it at all. So, I... -
Other than being overpriced and a bucket 'o heart attack, we've enjoyed movie theatre popcorn WITH the topping with no adverse issues.

ARCHIVED What Do They Take For Lunch Now?
buffettbride replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We swear by Open Original Shared Link. We also have a thermos for chili and soup on cold days. Right now, my dd is on a quesadilla kick. I make her a cheese quesadilla between two Mission brand corn tortillas. You can put chicken or beef in them as well. We buy a variety of gluten-free cookies by Glutino or Kinnickinnick to pack, also. Some fresh fruit... -
ARCHIVED Tonsils Got Smaller
buffettbride replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter's throat was always irritated and swolen prior to diagnosis. The doctor would just look in there and say it looked like allergies and give her a nasal drip spray to use (because we'd usually take her in to be seen for her perpetually clogged sinuses). Voila. When she was diagnosed with Celiac the sinus problems and throat irritation (and... -
ARCHIVED Wow, 3 Days Gluten-free!
buffettbride replied to henny's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm so glad you're finding some relief! My biggest tip is to avoid the gluten-free breads for a while to let your palate adjust. None of it tastes good compared to the wheat counterparts at first. The one exception is Kinnickinnick pizza crusts. If you can find some of those and make some cheese bread or some pizza, you'll be in heaven! I am a gluten eater... -
ARCHIVED Noodle Soup In Crockpot?
buffettbride replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have no idea, really. I'd definitely rather make my own soup base than use the mix, just because of the fresher ingredients. -
ARCHIVED Noodle Soup In Crockpot?
buffettbride replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay. I thought I would report back. Now, I did it the cheaters way, but it worked and it was DELICIOUS!!! I had a Banquet frozen crock pot meal (chicken/rice/herb) that I put in the Crockpot in the morning, perdirections. The rice packet you leave out until you come home, then add and let cook for 30 minutes. So, instead of putting the rice packet... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cereal
buffettbride replied to roxie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the Rice Chex advice. I'll try that this weekend w/ ice cream. DD hasn't had an ice cream "cone" since she was dxd and I was going to try my hand at a homemade sundae bowl cone this weekend. -
ARCHIVED So... I Have Celiac Disease Huh?
buffettbride replied to The Gigglah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you live someplace where there is a Noodles, you can get the rice noodles/Pad Thai there. Chilis also has a reliable gluten-free menu. Chipotle offers a lot of gluten-free options and you can get things in a bowl or in a corn tortilla, but sometimes the language barrier is an issue to get everyone to change gloves and protect the tortillas on the... -
ARCHIVED So... I Have Celiac Disease Huh?
buffettbride replied to The Gigglah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My hubby is a lazy, married 32 year old and loves "man food." If you can get your hands on some Kinnickinnick pizza crusts, they make great open-faced, toasted sammiches. My husband goes all sorts of dude-creative-food on them (on yeah, and we use them for pizza and cheese bread, too). This is one of his favorite tricks: Preheat oven to 400... -
ARCHIVED How Fast Can gluten-free Work?
buffettbride replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was "instantly" better the minute she stopped eating gluten. It took several weeks for the peripheral symptoms to clear up, but the acute glutening reaction and gut problems stopped immediately. -

It was bugging me so I had to look it up. Pamela's isn't CF. Here's the ingredient list for Pamlela's pancake mix: INGREDIENTS: Brown Rice Flour, White Rice Flour, Cultured Buttermilk, Natural Almond Meal (may appear as brown flecks), Tapioca Starch, Sweet Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Grainless & Aluminum Free Baking Powder (Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium... -

ARCHIVED Glutino Frozen Pizza Crusts
buffettbride replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not a fan of the Glutino pizza crusts at all (but oddly, my dd did like the Glutino cheese pizza, go figure). We use Kinnickinnick pizza crusts almost exclusively--even as a regular bread substitute. We do cheese bread a few times a week they are so good! Sometimes we do pizza and a lot of open-faced, toasted sammiches. Always very, very good. We cook... -
ARCHIVED Trail Mix
buffettbride replied to runlikeagirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We just usually make our own and it tastes just as good. Trail mix is a staple snack food for us. We get a large bag of raisins, large bag of M&Ms and a medium can of peanuts--mix and store in an airtight container. Makes a bag about the size you can buy at Wal Mart. You can add in other "safe" ingredients if you like. I've used dried apricots... -

I could be mistaken, but I think Pamela's pancake mix contains dairy. I can't remember off the top of my head though. One of our fave gluten-free/cf foods are soft mission corn tortillas and mission corn tortilla chips.
