ARCHIVED Noodles And Company No Longer As Gluten-free Friendly As Before.
buffettbride replied to Jaserine's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
What a bummer you got a bad response. I've contacted Noodles several times with praise about the location where we usually dine (Arvada, CO). We've gotten to know the manager and he takes good care of us, even when it is busy. Of the dozens of times we've eaten at Noodles since my daughter was diagnosed last April, she has only had a reaction once, and it... -
ARCHIVED Kitchen Bouquet Browning & Seasoning Sauce
buffettbride replied to Darn210's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use it to make gluten-free au jus. Yumm! -
Your doctor, like many, isn't quite on. If diarrhea and rapid weight loss were the only symptoms, my daughter never would have been diagnosed--and if so, much later after malnutrition had stunted her growth severely. I'm glad you were able to convince him to run the antibody test. The first indicator to a doctor, IMO, about running Celiac tests would...

ARCHIVED Safe Soup
buffettbride replied to sdore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We buy Progresso soups quite often. Usually the Chicken/Rice/Vegetable, Vegetable, or Chicken/Wild Rice, but also the Clam Chowder or Corn Chowder with no trouble. They do contain MSG at times, so if that is a problem you might not have good luck with those. -
ARCHIVED Oscar Meyer Deli Meats
buffettbride replied to Wildcat Golfer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oscar Meyer is a Kraft company and Kraft will label any gluten ingredients (wheat, barley, oats, rye) clearly and not hide them in things like natural flavor, artificial flavor, or coloring. That said, some folks are still irritated by caramel coloring. I'd probably give it to my daughter, but that said, we usually stick with Hormel Natural Choice... -
ARCHIVED Severe Cough/rhinitis And Celiac Disease
buffettbride replied to SheRides's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1) My daughter had persistent nasal and throat irritation prior to diagnosis. Her problems cleared up when going gluten-free and come back if she accidentally ingests gluten. 2) Wheat allergy is different than Celiac/gluten intolerance. Sounds like you don't have a wheat allergy, but certainly could be celiac or gluten intolerant, especially if your experience... -
ARCHIVED The Dry Muffin Dilemma
buffettbride replied to andanin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We use Pamela's pancake/baking mix to make muffins and also add about 2/3c sour cream to muffin recipes and haven't had any trouble with springiness or moisture. -
ARCHIVED Beware Of The Candy Heart
buffettbride replied to Rivergirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We buy Necco candy hearts because they are gluten-free and have eaten them regularly this season with no problems. Brachs who also makes them will not guarantee the gluten-free status of any of their products. -
ARCHIVED Marie Callender's Frozen Dinners
buffettbride replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks for the responses. i am going to pay much better attention at the store this weekend and report back with the ones i think have gluten-free ingredients. i think it is con-agra so it should be safe, but i'll probably call directly just to make sure. there were seriously 2-3 meals with meat and potatoes and maybe a rice/chicken one and stuff! i was... -
ARCHIVED Strep And Autoimmune
buffettbride replied to 2kids4me's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Strep is the weird thing my family seems to get. I never had it as a kid, but I've probably had it 10 times (no kidding) in the last 6 years. My daughter (the Celiac) has also had it 3-4 times in her life. She just had it a few weeks ago, but it was just in the throat. She also had a series of incidental glutenings a few weeks prior to that. My theory... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free "cheese-it" Like Crackers
buffettbride replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in CO so I see Out of the Breadbox products a lot. We like the croutons. Not necessarily as croutons, but they have a yummy fried bread taste to them and my daughter just eats them as snacks. She hasn't shown an interest in the cheese crackers but I think hubby and my son would enjoy them. I'll pick them up next shopping day! -
ARCHIVED Marie Callender's Frozen Dinners
buffettbride posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was at the grocery store last night picking up some ice cream and for kicks read some labels on Marie Callendar's frozen dinners. There were a few with gluten-free ingredients (and I can't remember the life of me which ones, I'm thinking sliced beef pot roast, potatoes and broccoli, stuff like that). Has anyone tried these before? They are made... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake Ideas
buffettbride replied to mmcdaniels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We've made both Bob's Red Mill and Pamela's and like them equally as well. -
My daughter always has sinus flare ups especially when she gets glutened. Her sinus troubles will linger long after a glutening and was a primary symptom prior to diagnosis. She uses a saline solution to flush her sinus periodically, and that seems to ease things up. She is very susceptible to ear, nose, throat type infections and it seems to be what "gets...

ARCHIVED First Gluten Free Shopping List
buffettbride replied to Chelley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's tough getting started. I cried the first time I went grocery shopping after DD was dxd. It took 4 hours in the grocery store reading every label and becoming familiar with what was and wasn't OK. I'm pretty good at the grocery store now and I have the cooking down-pat. It's always nice to make new gluten-free discoveries. Before I never enjoyed shopping... -
ARCHIVED Roasted Nuts
buffettbride replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy sauce - La Choy (although some don't like it). Kroger brand is also. Salad Dressing - Kraft will label any gluten so find a Kraft brand you like. Also, Annie's makes salad dressing that is gluten-free and will be marked on the label (not all are gluten-free so you have to check on the back). We make the Hidden Valley Ranch packets for ranch... -
ARCHIVED Roasted Nuts
buffettbride replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually, snack size Snickers ARE gluten-free. My DD eats them all the time. It's the snack/fun size Hershey bars that are not gluten free. But I agree, the snack size thing is a booger. The most annoying non-gluten-free foods on the entire planet for me are Kellogg's cereal. There does not NEED to be barley malt in EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' ONE! Twizzlers... -
ARCHIVED First Gluten Free Shopping List
buffettbride replied to Chelley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with everything but this statement. We get regular Fritos and Lays Stax all the time with no problems. There is a lot of emotion around whether or not Frito Lay products are safe. Some people eat them with no problem and others seem to react negatively to them. It is a personal choice, likely based on your reaction to them. That said, I'm pretty... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies
buffettbride replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh yeah. And there are 2.7 million Girl Scouts which means approximately 20,300 of them have Celiac Disease. That doesn't include wheat allergies or non-Celiac gluten intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies
buffettbride replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think I know in my heart that you are right. Unless they were to charge $5 a box to ensure the gluten-free cookies were made in a gluten-free environment it's not likely to become a reality. Now, what would be ideal is if an existing baker of gluten-free products could contract to make a gluten-free GS cookie. I think a gluten-free version of Thin... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies
buffettbride replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not saying don't support GS or buy cookies. In fact, support those scouts and donate your cookies to a local food bank or the troops. -
ARCHIVED Lachoy Teryaki Sauce
buffettbride replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ya know, I'm at a loss at this point. I don't know for sure that she's had a problem w/ MSG, but who knows when these things can rev up. She's eaten soups before with MSG w/ no problem and other things, too I'm sure. She said she got glutened today at school and all she ate was what I packed her for lunch which was PB&J on bread from a gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies
buffettbride replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's a good thing I didn't major in math because my figures were wrong. 22.6 MILLION have Celiac 20.8 MILLION have Diabetes. Now I feel kind of dumb for sending that email. Even though my numbers were wrong, the dynamics are the same. I just need to make sure I tell my little girl, honestly, that I've tried everything to make her most... -
ARCHIVED Lachoy Teryaki Sauce
buffettbride replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought so. There might be other culprits so I'm going to think about those too (she smooched her brother on the mouth by accident and he is not gluten-free and had just come home from preschool so that could have done it). That in addition to a glutening over the weekend on the same day we used the teryaki sauce. There are other factors though that could... -
ARCHIVED Lachoy Teryaki Sauce
buffettbride replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks. I think my husband has picked up a brand at Vitamin Cottage before, but I'll definitely check out that recipe. I far more enjoy the foods I cook at home than the ones I buy in the store.
