  1. Thanks for the recipe! I forgot about that one - I had eaten it in the past before the "gluten free" life began, and am glad to know it's gluten free! I would have to eliminate the Hidden Valley Ranch mix because I'm also casein free, but I'm sure it wouldn't make a huge difference. Now I'll just need to go get the ingredients & cook up a batch!
  2. I went to Chipotle's restaurant in the Sacramento (CA) area yesterday, & had a really good experience. Even though they were busy, they found out for me that I could have anything on their menu except the flour tortillas - everything else is gluten free! I had a "burrito bowl" that had rice, beans, carnitas, tomato salsa, guacamole, & lettuce...
  3. Jodele, Don't know if you've seen this web site, but it has some information on M.E.N. syndrome, as well as some links to other web sites: Open Original Shared Link Also, there's a rare disease database online you could check out that might have something helpful: Open Original Shared Link Good luck to you & your family! Martha
  4. Oh how I wish that horse was mine!! Unfortunately, we live in a suburb of a large city, & I don't think a horse would be allowed in our backyard! Someday, though..... (The horse is a Friesian, which I think is one of the most beautiful horse breeds there is!)
  5. I had some delicious Good Karma Rice Dream frozen dessert last night (Banana Fudge flavor!) and when I read the label, I discovered WAAYYY down on it: Soy Protein! ARRRGHH! Why do they do that?? We finally find something that's non-dairy & gluten-free, & tastes close to ice cream, & they go & mess it up by adding soy to it too! Any...
  6. Hi & Congratulations! One of my coworkers thought she got pregnant last February, & believed she was due in early November, because she continued to have a monthly cycle. However, long about 20 weeks her baby measured at least 1 month bigger than he should have given HER thoughts about the conception date, so her due date got moved up by over...
  7. [Then there is Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. These people do not have the gene and usually have negative antibody blood tests, but get very ill with gluten in their diets. They will not develop celiac disease.
  8. I had a similar experience to yours, in that I had been gluten free for about 5 months before I learned about Celiac disease. So, at my primary doc's suggestion, I went back on gluten to get the blood tests done through Prometheus. Well, no surprise, they were negative since I was only on gluten about 2 weeks when they were done. I continued eating gluten...
  9. Thanks everyone! I've never had problems with tree nuts in the past, except when I eat walnuts my mouth gets a tingly/itchy feeling. I had my doctor test my blood for walnuts (and many other foods) & everything came back "negative" except a few tree pollens. But, it tested for IgE levels, which are strictly for allergies, NOT intolerances. Sigh...guess...
  10. Did your specialist say "lactose-free" or "dairy/casein-free"? There's a huge difference between the 2 so it's important to make sure which one it is. Many of us are dairy/casein-free in order to completely avoid the casein protein, which is so similar to the gluten protein (both cause damage to the intestine). If it's casein-free, then try switching to some...
  11. I've been very strict about the gluten-free & casein-free diet for awhile now, & my symptoms are so much better (neuro & GI). I've also started soy-free, & egg light, but it hasn't been long enough to notice any difference. Today I had (quite a few) tortilla chips from the "Food should taste good" company (which are gluten free & produced...
  12. Thanks, Nancy! I appreciate you posting, especially since I hadn't heard anything since I wrote this almost 3 months ago! Do you live in Sacramento too? Good luck with your search. I did find a good GI doctor (Dr. Al-juburi with UC Davis medical group) who didn't diagnose celiac, but completely believes that I'm intolerant to gluten, & is very supportive...
  13. Thanks to all of you for the suggestions & support. I DO appreciate them so much! I know that many people deal with these restrictions all the time, but when a person is first diagnosed, it's overwhelming to think about them all at once. I am grateful for all the ideas on meal planning - I will definitely check them out & try them! ...
  14. I decided to go ahead & have Enterolab do the tests for egg, yeast, & soy, since I'd recently had the tests for gluten & casein done there (all results are in my signature below). I tested positive for both egg intolerance & soy intolerance (quite high on soy), & now I'm feeling even more overwhelmed by the dietary restrictions. I...
  15. That is too awesome! My daughter (not diagnosed with anything & hopefully never will be!) is 3 and sees the healthy foods we eat in our household too. Her idea of a "perfect" dessert is a tub of unsweetened applesauce with dried strawberries or another kind of fruit! And she doesn't like fast food or stuff like that either. I love seeing kids make healthy...
  16. Thanks for responding, & welcome to this forum! I think you'll find lots of support & information for any questions you might have. I too lost a lot of my weight after going gluten-free, since many of the temptations were gone. Lately I've found ways to "cheat", & some weight is creeping back up, but I'm not letting it win! I didn't lose...
  17. Do you have a Trader Joe's in your area? They have a Cheeto-type snack that is low in fat because it's baked, & it's gluten free. They have both crunchy & puffy cheese snacks; I used to love eating them (but don't now because I'm casein-free now too. ) Good luck!
  18. I just tried that this week too, & it's SOOOOOO good! I'm having fun experimenting with different treats like that, rather than assuming that life is over because I can't have gluten or casein. Good luck in your quest too!
  19. Nobody??
  20. Holly, Thanks SO much for the link with the list of medications...I've been looking for that type of info! Martha
  21. Hello there, & welcome to the "celiac world"! My main symptoms of "non-celiac gluten intolerance" are pain in my muscles & joints. I was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia because my rheumatologist didn't know what else it was. I tried elimination diets to find relief for the pain, & stumbled across gluten as the cause...once I was on a...
  22. Has anyone traveled to the Napa Valley (California) area recently? If so, any suggestions on restaurants to try that might be "gluten friendly"?? Thanks!
  23. My GI doc wants to do a hydrogen breath test this coming Friday to test for bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Has anyone had one of these? What was it like? Anything I really need to know in advance so I'm not caught off guard that day? Thanks!
  24. When she was diagnosed, did she also find out whether she is casein-intolerant (like through Enterolab's testing?) This is what I have, & they told me to eliminate casein & gluten for the rest of my life, as the casein can cause intestinal damage just like the gluten. So, just wanting to make sure this wasn't an issue for your fiancee before she...
  25. Hi Casey, My main symptoms associated with gluten are similar to fibromyalgia (painful muscles, fatigue, tender spots all over) & a general achiness & heaviness in my arms & legs. I also notice that my osteoarthritis pain is MUCH more severe in my joints when I've been glutened. I have arthritis in all 3 regions of my spine, my toes, fingers...
