  1. I don' think that b12 deficiancy's really depend on whether you're eating gluten or not. I've been a celiac for 7 years and am very strict about my diet and I was just diagnosed with a b12 deficiancy a few months ago. "Normal" range is 200-900 and I was under 150, which the doctor called freakishly low...however, I was given no explaination as to why I was b12 deficiant or for how long I have been. I'm currently getting shots every 3 weeks before I get started on the pills.

  2. I agree. I think you're a great friend and I also think you'll be fine. Pack some snacks! Stop at the grocery store. You can avoid gluten on trips very easily if you eat your own food..I understand you might feel like you are intruding but I bet once you get there, you won't give that a second thought!

  3. I don't know that I'd ever trust a KFC or a Taco Bell...KFC for obvious reasons, I'm not sure I've ever heard them having any gluten free items..even their grilled chicken breast is covered in flour and Taco Bell for non-gluten stomach related issues :)

  4. I'd get the vaccine but only to help with getting sick when I was cross contaminated or accidentally glutened. I definitely wouldn't go back to eating gluten at this point in my life, I think my body would probably just reject it anyway BUT if getting the vaccine helped me feel better on those off days.....I'd be open to it!

  5. If your Chipotles won't do that for you then you need to contact that manager as well as corporate, because they claim to be allergy friendly (to a degree obviously) and advertise that they will accomodate on request. I've never had an issue with several Chipotles (across several states) so I'd definitely look into that! You shouldn't have to miss out on the deliciousness because of lazy workers.

  6. Malt is not safe. I don't think the distillation process of a malt beverage changes the fact that it is malt. Granted, malt isn't one of the items that triggers a HUGE reaction in me...for the first year of my diagnosis I was still eating Rice Krispies because my then doctor told me they were gluten free (mind you this was 7 years ago) but I honestly think its foolish to risk it when its very clearly stated that celiac disease and a gluten free diet means to avoid wheat, rye, barely and malt.

Just my two or three cents!

  7. You're not stupid at all, it was and is a learning curve for all of us. Heck, back when I was diagnosed, they were still saying that Rice Krispie treats were gluten free before realizing that malt was on the list of no nos. I regularly ate those and Twizzlers, because honestly, who would've thought there'd be wheat in those!? It was one of those days at a baseball game that I just didn't feel good and I finally happened to look down at the package and saw WHEAT FLOUR. I was super happy about it.

Hang in there, it'll get easier!
